Saw Alien: Covenant yesterday.

What a piece of garbage.. I cannot recommend it. I am a huge Alien fan. This is more of a alien movie than Prometheus, but it is not like Alien or Aliens. It is a mockery of the universe.

Michael Fassbender like his two characters or not was the best actor in the movie, yet the story of his characters often took a weird turn.

- You guys also talked about GotG2. I don't think was a bad movie, but not a great movie either. I really enjoyed the journey, but the destination was pretty lame.. So remember to enjoy the ride because it was a funny one, but a flat ending.

Alien Covenant was finally a decent Alien movie. Nothing since Aliens 2 has scratched that same itch that was only satisfied by the originals, and this is well... almost it. I hated Prometheus, mostly because it was marketed badly. I get that Ridley Scott wants to tackle more philosophical questions, and it is his right. Now he listened to fans, and we got more of the very very good old stuff, but he kept his vision of the philosophy he wanted to go for in Prometheus.

I give it a solid 8/10, it is sligthly better than the average of 7/10 but I have waited so long for a watchable Aliens sequel, and this one is one Good times, go and enjoy

Edit: I almost forgot, I was supposed to highlight the set/production design of this movie, and oh my god it is amazing. In addition the sound design is stellar - it really works.

Watched Life and Covenant yesterday. Life was a meh one, not really bad, but not really impressive either. When the small alien used that tool to get freed from the gloves, I simply couldn't stop the image of Patrick coming to the front of the my eyes and it might have spoiled almost the rest of the movie whole.

Covenant I felt almost abysmal and then I understood why Sal would have left the cinema in the mid of it. I would not, not because I would feel like staying, but because I usually have nothing else to do when I go to the movies.

Aside the usual CG make-up movies have these days, I really can't wrap my mind around that bad writing. Whatever I was expecting, it was not much, and even after reading some remarks here that it was lacking, it still did not prepare me to the awful result. ^_^' Right now I'm running out of hope of having expectations upon entertainment, specially movies and games. We start getting too selective and things start getting murkier to hit on the mark, I guess, and when we start meddling with what we judge is potential, it gets even more wilder.

I couldn't agree more with this. Saw the film this evening, and my God, was I disappointed. I thought Prometheus was bad, but this...
SPOILERS AHEAD

This is Alien movie that has xenomorph (not counting that stupid white thingy) appear in three scenes. And if Scott tried to explain their origin, I think he failed miserably. I'm more confused now than I was with Black Goo -> infected guy -> pregnant Shaw-> tentacle monster -> quasi-xenomorph thing in Prometheus.  This left me with more questions, and things that we learn make no sense. Oh, and if Scott thought that people would be suprised by the plot twist that Walter is not Walter at the end, then he is rather naive.

The origin of the xenomoth has been butchered in Alien Covenant! What did he think?!

If I understood it right in Prometheus they are a weapon. Fair enough! I'll accept that! But in this movie he just leaves the weapon-creation in the hands of .. yes you guys know instead of in the hands of the creators..

What is up with that? Why did he want to go that way? Why is David so keen on playing flute?!

ARGH! I am so dissapointed.

something I've started doing is watching the weekend box office results. You can usually get a feel for the franchise this way by looking at the percent drop from week 1 to week 2, the budget, and the opening weekend haul.

A good drop is around 30 to 40 percent.   A 70% drop-off, like covenant just did, is terrible.  It's not going to make it's budget back, which means this is prolly the death of the franchise.

It's already made back its primary production costs, although admittedly not in spectacular fashion. I'd say it's done around as well as Prometheus did.

An interesting perspective I kind of agree with (well, as much as I can given I haven't see the movie yet) can be found here. Mostly, it was never really clear during marketing what Prometheus was supposed to be, and as a result the same can kind of be said about Covenant.

Anyway, it's certainly not a box office bomb. I'm sure there'll be another one.

Meanwhile I watched the latest pirates. Fantastic visuals and good action but despite some good moments I felt it was missing its old spark. Bardem had a good presence but his role was rather straightforward. I liked the look of his crew but it wasn't as memorable as that of Davy Jones. Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush are enjoyable as always and the new cast wasn't bad. Overall mixed feelings.

"The old spark?" It is the fifth sequel and I'd say anything other than the first movie was already much less than magical. But I guess, by now even the ember is cold, put aside any sparks. I'm gonna watch it on TV or wait for a torrent.

So, I watched the Lego Batman Movie.
*spoiler alert*
batman learns the true meaning of family.

That's it. That's the movie. It's alright for a kids film, but not as enjoyable for the adults as the LEGO Movie itself was.

I'll go to see it too in a couple of days. For the record, I liked all the Pirates films except the third one so I might enjoy this one too. I wasn't expecting it to top the first one anyway. Will post my thoughts after.

He has his moments in there, and there are pretty nice things in the film overall.

But like I said, it's not something that adults would enjoy as well.

Hoping the new Pirates turns out okay. Planning to go watch it in a week or so, after my exams finish. 3rd was too bombastic, didn't watch the 4th, but heck do I want some swashbuckling fun set to bombastic music and oversalted theatre-brand popcorn.

I like the villain in it (that Spanish whatever-his-name guy from Skyfall), but not going to see it in theaters. Johnny Depp is overrated and I'm bored with the franchise.

I'd love to see a pirate/sea-faring movie but I'd prefer something more down to earth and less bedazzling and crowded. Too much **** goes on in those movies. Every other second somebody is either doing a backflip or turning into manfish thingy/pirate zombie/mermaid.

If I were to remember Javier Bardem like "this guy from that movie," I guess, No Country for Old Men would pop up in my head ten thousand times faster than Skyfall. He was one of the best psychos in recent films there.

I think that's part of the problem. I am used to him as an unpredictable psycho so the role of a proud, ruthless and vengeful captain seems pretty tame by comparison. In no country for old men he was intimidating just by being there.

Whats-his-name was highly successful at being creepy In No Country for Old Men but I was too busy looking at Tommy Lee Jones' acne scars to know what happened in that movie.

I saw Pirates today, and I think it worked well at tying to the previous films while being a fun adventure on its own.

Especially because it's already the fifth in the franchise, I was worried it might feel too much like a "recycled" version of the previous films, but actually I ended up enjoying it as much as the early entries.

I liked the new characters just fine, and the old ones were entertaining as ever.

Javier Bardem's Captain Salazar was indeed straightforward but I think he was an ok villain in context.

Overall, pretty good.

Watched Guardians of Galaxy 2. Had the first instalments charm and uniqueness but was a bit too over-the-top for me. Definately not as good as the first entry, but still a solid and 'colurful' adventure.

I really liked one critics comment about this movie: "most expensive group-therapy session in the universe"
