i'm going to go see covenant. i actually liked prometheus; it was better imo, than every alien movie after 3.

as far as people doing stupid things while terrified; that happens in real life all the time. any heightened emotions will make people do all sorts of idiotic snow. and what's more, people don't even need to be in a state of emotional arousal, to act like morons. also, expecting people to act like you would in movies(if you could place yourself in their shoes realistically), is a bit of a reach.

me, i just laugh or shake my head when i see people do something against their self-sustainment in movies; because not everyone is so carelessly reckless as some of us. most are just idiots that need killed by creatures or whatever. in which case, the antagonists are doing the good lord's work.

That's really not raising the bar now, is it. Kind of like saying you like the new Paul McCartney album because it was better than everything Ringo Starr did after 1975!

Btw, is "emotional arousal" really used to mean panic in English or did you just make that up to sound naughty despite the censorship!

i don't know the beatles that well. by "emotional arousal", i meant any emotion that gets out of hand.

so, i saw covenant. and as expected, i enjoyed it.

spoilers:

it was obvious that david was going for the end game, when you saw him cutting his hair(though how he dyed it, i have no clue) to match the new android walter(in order to replace him, should it come to that). i thought for sure he was going to shove that flute straight into walter's brain when he was teaching him how to play. then when the departure scene came, it was obvious it was david and not walter who survived, as he obviously lacked the nano technology to reconstruct himself(his wounds didn't heal). the crew(or at least anyone surviving) should have known that.

my big issue, was obviously with the firearms. how in the hell they didn't have laser weapons is beyond me(now that i think of it, NONE of the alien movies had laser weapons in them. at least, not any of the good ones. how is it, that you can travel through space with such advanced technology, and NOT have advanced weaponry? ). that was the stupidest part about the movie, imo. that they didn't wear protective suits in a potentially hostile environment, is second stupidest, but only because they had equipment to scan the environment beforehand(if you remember, they scanned the environment beforehand in prometheus, and found it to be inhospitable; hence the suits worn then). what i don't understand about either movie, is that they didn't scan for life forms beforehand. you don't enter a foreign environment without some kind of protection or foreknowledge; the writers could have easily had any biological hazard attach to a suit and then enter a human once the coast was clear(since they didn't bother decontaminating jack snow in this movie).

those two specific areas are where the movie falls short. the rest is good, imo. the previous comment about not being able to shoot/kill something that is that small(and with such a tiny profile), is more than a little ridiculous. you try shooting a rapidly-moving target where the only center mass is only a couple inches across(if it's coming directly for you and you can't get a broadside shot), and see how you do with small arms ammo in a situation like that. honestly, she'd've had more luck using that rifle like a bat, than a gun(and she'd've still died, most likely; since an ar doesn't have much weight to the plastic stock end). the girl with the knife? she could have done the most damage to it, if she'd have kept her eyes open. but my guess is, that thing was going for her throat, so she didn't really have a chance anyway.

but, back to the knife lady: ever see someone trying to get a cat that has dug it's nails in, off of them? yeah. those two women had no chance, realistically. that little snower was fast, tiny, and was FAR stronger and WAY more hostile than a simple cat.

i anxiously await the next movie. hopefully, it's more like aliens(they're coming outta the goddamn walls!). i'd just love to see another movie with mass casualties, on both sides. lots of gunplay, bombs, whatever. and lots and LOTS of aliens.

edit: oh yeah, before i forget: two moviegoers each said something incredibly stupid afterward: a woman actually said: "did they switch bodies?"(referring to walter and david). the other moviegoer, a dude, said: "i didn't know that that wasn't walter."

snowing dumbasses, man. i think the movie made it WAY too obvious what had happened between the androids, and here, for these two snowwits, it didn't make it obvious ENOUGH. and those two braindead retards are most likely going to procreate. if they haven't already.

Well, having laser beams on the screen does not exactly have the impact  it used to have, it can even be considered a cliche by now. And firearms which are efficient enough and cheaper than laser beams can be a common thing in the future, why not? It's like how everybody was obsessed with flying cars (with wings looking like WW1 planes) in early 20th century, or cable phones with "tube" visuals in the 50's. The next thing is never that predictable and sometimes, it may not come at all the way you expect it.

you know, the human prey in these movies should be wielding lightsabers. because it'll cauterize. no acid burns that way.

I agree with Fred's review. Including about those two who failed to notice the Walter - David switch. For starters the kill scene not showing the actual kill was a dead giveaway cliche as well as the wound stuff mentioned. I guess it was so in their faces (pun intended ), they didn't see it?

Was going to see Covenant tonight but looks like I'm watching Xena: Warrior Princess Wonder Woman instead. Will inform HC of quality.

Edit:

Spoilers

Wonder Woman was good. I didn't really understand why in the beginning the German ships crossed the magical barrier and instantly started attacking these random women on a mysterious tropical island that appeared out of nowhere. Like that is really how anybody would react.

Seeing Wonder Woman walking around and interacting with the world was fun/humorous. Lots of interesting scenes. I got a little bored with the ending fight but that seems to be common in superhero movies.

New Marvel movies are still better made imo, but this is the best DC movie so far.

i haven't seen it yet, but i doubt it tops "the dark knight". i haven't seen a dc movie yet that could give tdk a run for it's money. nothing even close. of course, i'm most likely going to be permanently biased...

Oh no. The Dark Knight is far better. That movie is in its own league. I slightly prefer Keaton/Nicholson Batman, but DK is probably the top rated superhero movie in film.

I mean the best among the new arc of DC movies that are building up into a Justice League (DC version of the Avengers).

oh, gotcha. i highly doubt the dc universe, outside of tdk, has anything on the marvel universe. who else is in the justice league, again(besides supes, wonder woman, batballs and aquaman)? the last non-batman superman movie was good, imo. but the current batman sucks nuts. and just who are they going to cast for aquaman? that may actually be fun to watch, but more as a goof.

i'll have to watch wonder woman online once it comes out. no way am i pulling out my junk in the theater. i learned that from pee-wee herman.

oh man, that looked gay. i'll pass(also, anyone else see the obvious cgi flaw with the cyborg's face in the first shot? ffs, it's 2017. get your graphic snow together, hollywood. among other things that you're snowing up. like, i dunno, casting and storywriting?).

now comes the real issue: why in the hell did i think that wonder woman was played by scarlett johannson? i mean, how did i forget that she's already part of the marvel universe? the legal conflicts alone would prevent her from being a part of that world, i would think. so i have no ground for comprehending my misunderstanding.

wonder woman's still rad, though. i'd totally have her babies.

The purpose of Scarlet's existence is to prevent the movies from being a sausage fest.

i couldn't care less about any character's history; only how they are portrayed on screen by actors and actresses. the only times i'm interested in a back story is when you have an intricate and mysterious character. and the best movies never explain them anyway.

this is self-contradictory. How you can know actor portrays character well if you don't know who the character is? ALl the comic book movies have decades of stories behind them.

Marvel has been successful as it consequenctly makes movies about characters in first place. Unlike DC, who make flashy films with popular characters stuffed in just for marketing purposes. Wonder Woman seem successful because it changed this pattern.

no it's not. the movie usually tells the story. every time i read something before i watch a movie, i'm disappointed. if the characters are portrayed on-screen well(as the story unfolds), and they(or the movie) are interesting enough, i will check out their history via books or whatever. when i watch a movie, and then read the book, i am always more satisfied. i think for most people, it's the other way around, though. i've stopped reading books for quite a while now. the last ones i can remember reading were written by chuck palahniuk.

I think he means how, for example, the 1989 Batman instantly starts off with Batman already fighting crime. There is no origin story given explicitly, except for how his childhood connects with the Joker murdering his parents when he was younger.

Or, although a different genre, the original Star Wars space opera starts off instantly into a conflict between the Empire and the Alliance, and although there's a huge galaxy and history to explore, the audience is just given a glimpse and a lot of it is left to mystery.

It's a question of much information the director wants to give. Each movie is different, but I agree that the most successful and interesting movies usually leave a lot to the audience's imagination and have plenty of unanswered questions. I'm also thinking of the original Alien or the original Predator.
