Poll Question:
Favorite crpg character concept

Who do you prefer?

1.Tank - big, strong, dumb. He doesn't rely on any sort of tricks. He just walks, smashing everyone's skull in progress. He doesn't need to flee or worry. His damage is good and he is tough as a bull. Usually carries a big shield to improve his tankiness.

2.Agile Fighter - built for speed and finesse, often dual-wielding: he isn't the toughest guy out there, but makes up for it with his mobility. Quite squishy, but doing lots of damage.

3.Ranger - get a bow or xbow and snipe them down. You prefer a class that gives you safety of distance while still packing a punch. Stealth, camouflage and such are also welcome.

4.Assassin - Traps, poison, stealth, cunning - you enjoy the burst damage those types of classes provide, among with survivability increased via avoiding sight.

5.Mage - You enjoy the AoE damage and like the fact that you have to pick correct spells depending on situation. You enjoy the variety of techniques and the brutal power of your spells.

Of course there are many more classes in many games but most can be simplified to a concept of: sturdiness, speed, stealth, range or magic.

Out of those, my favorite is the first one. I love being a big dumb guy who doesn't need to think much. It's so relaxing. I hate to flee and having too many strategies is fun, but sometimes simply annoying. Huge resistances + huge life + huge damage = fun.

Depends.

In Sacred, I was the assassin.
In Loki, I was the tank.
In Titan's Quest, I was a mage.

Depends on the mood and general feeling, really.

Lol Mytical, priceless

I'm currently playing Titan Quest and I'm stuck between Defense specialist and ranger. Like them both. Shield guy just fits my style, but the ranger does great damage and doesn't have that much of a problem with health.

I prefer agile fighters, can be more challenging to play than just standing there hitting and being hit. I prefer some complexity in my characters be it a form of combos, setting snares, avoiding detection, maybe some limited magic but at the same time being able in combat.
I have played archers and while fun I hate it when you get surrounded and have to run around like an idiot. And you will be surrounded, it's like an rpg universal law Likewise an assassin will eventually have to face furious melee and not all rpgs allow you to deal with stealth in all situations.
Wizards can be a lot of fun if you get to know them but you can rest assured that the game will offer you some as companions, I tend to use them as support for the group anyway. And you don't always feel the immense power a solo mage could obtain in baldur's gate 2. Man that was so much fun, challenging and creative. What may also go wrong is being in areas you cannot rest constantly, you feel like someone hates you.

But apart from a combat focus I also want a character to have people skills. For instance a duelist in nvw2 can have the time of his life with all those skills, same with ranger. A ranger in the same game could get some insane dual wielding damage and had some buffs to raise his stats, could summon a companion, track enemies.. They also have more diverse stats than just pump up strength and constitution, they can avoid traps, get insights in dialogues etc. In kotor while guardians have sweet combat capabilities - force jump WHOOO! - the game just feels 'fuller' when playing a sentinel. Yes they are inferior in combat but allow you to experience the game more.

Mages are masters at warfare vs entire armies, but stink against a single enemy up close .  I love the raw power they give, but they are a pain to get high level.  A high level mage is almost unmatched in power.

agile fighters - i'm a sucker for multiple hits. plus it allows me to make great usage of my weapons with effects. of course my plan rarely deviates so it is best for me to pick a fighter... if i do i want him to have no shield.

Smash, Bash Kill.

I like big weapons, but not shields, in RPG's I pick the one who is best with 2 hand weapon but not Tank. In WoW I was Paladin and Priest, actually in most games I play pally, dunno why I just like the conception Warhammer's battle priest is also my favourite there.

So thats the agi fighter? Or the mage? Pally is hybrid...

I like everything enough to play stuff all across the board (except for maybe heavy healers), but my personal favorites are speed fighting classes, such as monks or fighter/rogue combos. So I'll mark one down for agile fighter.

I usually prefer leader & support characters, but they generally aren't included in games without multiplayer or having control over an entire party of characters.

Otherwise I go assassin for all the nifty tricks.

tank class. I hate being supposed to hide, hit and run like a sissy. The feeling of running into a great mob of monsters armed with my twohanded sword (no shield. They are also for sissies) and hoping for the best is wonderful
In games where I'm able I choose to mix it with mage for the variety in gameplay. Did I say I play shaman in WoW?

Ranger I guess? As I play a Hunter. But I use a gun called Envoy of Mortallity ("Will most likely kill you")

But I like all ranged dps, I hate melee except when its combined with spells (Shaman, Paladin) or when you can shapeshift.

Warriors are the most boring things ever. They are not interesting in any way. Heroic Strike there, Rend here and Shield Slam over there.
