One thing I think some people fail to see here is it is not because of fame or celebrity status..though he certainly was famous and a celebrity.  We don't see MJ as a 'god' or 'idol', some of us actually liked his music and recognise what he did.  He DID open doors for African-Americans.  His music DID influence the others who came after, and the ones that came after that, and so on.  He WAS a show man, and entertained us.

We don't listen or appreciate his music any more because he is dead, we were listening to and enjoying it while he was alive just as much.  Now, however, there is NO CHANCE that he will ever make more.  What we have is all we will ever get from him, ever.  Somebody will release some of his unproduced songs, and they will be big for a bit, but it won't be the same.  His star does not shine brighter because he passed, but the old saying goes.  You don't know what you have until it is gone.  It was always there, but for awhile we forgot.  It took something tragic to remind us, that's all.

You notice that although we miss them, celebrities like Ed, Farrah, Billy Mayes, and so forth did not quite have the impact that MJ did.  We found them entertaining, and we enjoyed them, but there is no 'idol worship' like some seem to think.  Like Elvis..MJ is missed for what he did for our Music.  For good or bad, they impacted the industry in a BIG way.  When/if Little Richard passes, he will be missed just as much because he impacted the music business in just as big of a way..if not even a tad more.

It reminds us of our mortality, and of times past.  We are morning the loss of those times as much as we are the actual person.  We will never get those times again, and as each of the people we grew up with pass a little more of our childhood passes away.  It is not a bad thing, or a good thing, but it's important to US.

I realise there are people out there that the second MJ died they elevated him to almost godlike status.  We are not those people.  We are remembering good times, recollecting childhood memories, and sharing our pain over loosing a bit of that.  I guess some people are feeling left out of it, and just have to make themselves heard regardless however.

There's not much to remind about death, because it is inevitable. I'd say it's more like accepting it.

And you can't honestly say that someone who says "I can't live without Michael Jackson" as seen on TV crazed fans isn't "idol worship"? Really?

So those people... they must have been in contact with MJ at least once a day. Right? I mean, his death must have made a difference to consider suicide...

I'd say that the recent boost in his music's popularity is simply because people were reminded of his existence (without connecting him to some crime).

I think that certainly MJ was a talented artist. It is sad that teh last years of his life were so tragic and much of his talent was wasted.

Was he a child molester? I can't say. He was never conviceted in a court of law and there are alays those who prey on celebrities. Was he eccentric? Definately.

I think that for many people music is connected to imporatant passages or events of their life. Prom, dates, honeymoons, parties, ect. This is a big reason why when a person such as Jackson dies there is such a public reaction.

Music can be a very powerful thing.
