rmg versions

nice work fc, how the heck did u come across this file?

what we can aim for is controlled releases of new rmg files that will have lots of cool new templates in it.

Lets test it out over the next month or two and then we can post the first new rmg with contributions from those of us testing it out

Here are some research questions:

* how do u get those huge stacks of monsters on the barrier maps like 2SM4d(2) Is it naturally what the generator wants to do if starting areas are adjacent?

* how do u control # of 2 way doors? be also nice to know why ring almost never has 2 way doors, but 6lm10 is littered with them.

* why 8xm8 seem to specifically have dozens of hives, but only the normal # of conservatories.

* why dwarven tunnels starts with 2 towns of exact same type, and neither have forts. I can see a heading "towns are of same type". might be a clue

seems like there r a lot of potential ways to influence a template

nb. noted a reference to the never implemented Forge town type, i presume this is Conflux.

First of all, download:

its comfortable utility for view/edit txt files from hmm.

You can also download resourse editor, that i used to extract txt file:

Dwarwen tunnels:

For sure, "ZONE ID" - 1 (also 2,3,4) - its human positions. then blah,blah,blah... then "PLAYER TOWNS" (we can see that minimum towns = 1 and minimum castle none =0) thats mean that starting town will be without a fort (town not castle). Then "NEUTRAL CASTLES" (we have 1 neutral town and 0 castles in this zone) and next (you right) "TOWNS OF THE SAME TYPE" means that these towns will be same.

8XM8:

I dont know for sure but i know section "TREASURE" effects on objects on map. For example try to make section "TREASURE" 500-500 10/ 0-0 0/ 0-0 0. You will see that will be only one or may be few objects. So these objects has value 500. For sure i know next:

Temple
Forntan of youth
Den of thieves
Tavern
Altar of sacriface
Marketplace
Swan pond
Sanctuary
Fontain of fortune
Rally flag

Has value 100.

Spell Scroll 1 level has value 500.

Not sure:

Magic garden
1st level shrine

has value 600.

Water wheel
Gold

has value 800.

So there is some value for hives also. And when we have interval 6000 - 12000 (like on 8XM8) then we have dozen of hives. But im not sure.

2SM4d(2):

Guard between zones describes in the end, column "VALUE" after column "CONNECTIONS". For example "VALUE=3000" its about 27 monsters of 2nd level.

About 2 way teleports i don't know while. But im sure the key in Rmg.txt somewhere.

hmm can someone please explain  this whole "text file thing" - meaning to a non randomer like me ? is it for example possible to force special templates to appear ?  if so i have a nice idea for a random template tourney .

Yeah that is what is possible motor, as well as many other things. You can edit the rmg.txt file to force templates to appear. When the rmg.txt file is in the data folder, just deleting the template name will keep that template from appearing. Just have to make sure you dont edit the value rows as well.

Well, this is just a suggestion, cos i'm too lazy to check it myself:
here is the quote from 6LM10 Template

Marked blocks are supposed one-way portals values, so idea is: if you want to put pair one-way entrance-exit portals in 2 zones, you need enter ZoneNum1-ZoneNum2 (other connections between other zones in numerical order till zonenum2) ZoneNum2-ZoneNum1.
Remember, that editing the rmg you must according to original format
This method unfortunately do not define only entrance or only exit, but enthusiasts wellcome as well.

We need to check this.

I receive two way monolith on Ring using 1-10 for example and later 10-1.

Another good question: Why we got different type of roads on different templates?

I just tested these things about monolith, and seems to me when zones are not adjacent, generator place monolith to connect them.

Beginner

Hey all,
 
        I feel kinda stupid but I am new to looking at .rar files. I am using windows 98, and I have tried notepad, wordpad and I have downloaded the textedit program that was suggested. But all I see when I open a file is a bunch of mumbo jumbo. Do I need some kind of .RAR compiler or something. Haha, tnx ahead of time for the help if Im not too far lost.........Morgoth

Yes .rar files are a type of compression file.. You simply need to DL the programs

WinZip
WinRar
or WinAce

ANy of these decompressors will open the file. Then you will be able to view it.

me again,

         I have been able to extract the rmg.txt file to txtedit. And I have have erased all the names from the named templates, so they do not appear. But now I can not figure out how to replace the original RMG file with the one I edited. Anyone got help with this for me.

There is not an original rmg.txt file

You simply place this file into data folder. That's all
