Here's one I learned recently.
A man is found in a tent, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. In a corner, on his cot, lie a pack of cigarettes and several newspaper clippings. In the middle of the room there is a small table, and underneath the table lie several small wooden disks. Having done some investigating, the detective in charge is surprised that the newspaper clippings are there, as the dead man was illiterate.
What happened?

The guy was a stowaway-turned-lion-tamer employed by a famous circus, who joined up to get away from local trouble, but repeatedly ditched it when his favorite band was in town for a concert.He had a less experienced, but more daring twin brother, who always covered for him. The guy kept the issues showing particularly good stunts performed by his bro, as he couldn't watch them live - he was very proud and fond of him - One night, it all went horribly wrong. His twin couldn't control the lion, and it slaughtered the audience and broke the twin's spine, among other injuries resulting in a slow, agonizing death. This made the headlines.Upon discovering what his selfishness wrought, the guy shot himself.
