Sure there is, seeing that the only ever released 252x252 map is for era.

i follow this site alot not real active chatter
i really need help with fixing ERA II ..
it works fine but i am trying to install acid cave..
i also installed XXL
onto ACID cave the install works also the gameplay works
but some units are upgraded in the wrong way
they go to some earth air messenger and lava sharp shooters etc
can you tell me how to change that so they are upgraded correctly?

Upgrades have NOTHING to do with XXL patch. You probably run WoG with "Extended Upgrades" script on or something similiar.

I am a little confused.

The patch file from this site makes a version 4.0 exe, but the pre-patched is a 3.2? The 4.0 didn't work for me.
Anyhow, I use the pre-patched exe 3.2 for Complete with a empty h3blade.exe and HDmod. I do notice more errors in the generated maps, however.
I've experienced some random things like towns inaccessible, creatures placed in water (right beside land). I also experienced starting on an tiny island with only one shipyard that was guarded by 250 level 4 creatures. :s Maybe fault of template. Nostalgia XXL.
Maybe it's just the nature of the XXL patch that such things happen more often. I've not experienced such things on normal XL maps for Complete. Yet, anyhow.
Still, cool with XXL maps.

Has anybody managed to get the Heroes3_xxl.exe to work on Windows 8/8.1? I've tried all sorts of compatibility settings but as soon as tries to load it just crashes to the desktop. The original executable works great, just the modified one doesn't. I guess since it was made before Windows 8 was out there's no way to get it to work?

It might not be a Windows 8 issue. Do you have an 0 bit 'h3blade.exe' in the root folder of HMM3? This is needed for the 'Complete' edition.
ERA II has a XXL mod.

Ah that's an interesting point you've brought forward. I shall have a look. You see what I done was just copy the folder with its contents from my XP OS to my other computer with the Windows 8 OS. This has failed to work though. Will double check to see if the executable you mentioned is in the folder.

Well, if the XXL executable worked on your Windows XP install and you copied the same HMM3 folder over to Windows 8 (with no change) then I see no reason why it shouldn't also work now. The HMM3 install is pretty much a direct-play install. It uses no other folders, and the needed regs, if any, the game can write itself anew. So, maybe it's actually a Windows 8 issue. I don't use Windows 8 myself, but I'd check to see if any security settings might cause the issue. Like: DEP (Data Execution Prevention) and general security permissions.

Alright I've checked and that 0 byte file does appear to be in the folder. I still can't get the game to run though. Will try to mess around a bit and try your suggested methods. Thanks!

Hello, can you help me. I`m trying to find the XXL patch for Heroes3 Complete (not the WOG only normal heroes. There are only broken links, and i cant find the patch anywhere...Can anyone send me a link, and tell me how to play bigger maps ?

Where do i download this file in my heroes folder? for some reason it's not working correctly and I assumed it would've been allocated properly on its own

I'd suggest you to get Era instead. It's the same as WoG 3.58f, but better. Portable XXL mod for Era is available. Recommended to use with the Secondary Skills Scrolling mod.
