From what I see in code there's no reachable limit in VCMI, but I don't think we'd ever need maps bigger than about 300x300.
Much more painful restriction is the fact that RMG can add only limited number of dwellings and some other structures.

Unlimited additional dwellings can be added and scripted, so the limitation is not a problem. Is like the 240 possible events, which can be pushed to unlimited by creating scripted events after the game started. The only things which limit us a lot right now are the z variables and the flags. Way too few for such maps.

Is it possible in the rmg to make creatures guarding resources/gates etc toughter than strong value. In other words the rmg I got of this thread had creatures at strong. Does it go any higher then that?

Hmm, the .dll above seems to be buggy. Some adresses are missing and when I try to generate huge wog map, editor crashes.
Did anyone managed to successfully create wog XXl map?

my mapeditor is prepatched with this
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O1Q8QQNL
its from new objects 1.09
maybe this patch will add missing stuff to data folder that I forgot to include.
Over here it works to randomize big maps within the mapeditor. It looks like its freezing up but after some minutes its done.
@Alex : I tried to use your patch but i didnīt work.

Than you very much, now it works fine.
It didn't change anything really apart from a few graphics. It's not yet possible to create or play WoG XXL maps and it doesn't look like something is gonna change in near future.

right. there was no progress since february because my aim was to fix mini-map. just don't want to go further as I don't believe there will ever be good XXL maps made by players.

After few games I don't see a point of creating XXL map without WoG. Objects just get too repeatable after a while.

First, all regular good mapmakers are gone and out from Heroes since years. The only way to have the XXL maps living is to make them for WoG, where people is still working and making maps or mods, because of diversity when filling the space. I can bet with you 1 million dollars that if you give us the patch for WoG, the first XXL map will be out in no time. Don't worry.

Maybe. But with SoD I hardly see any mapmaker starting a titan work and stop at half map done because he can't add more objects or events. That's all about. It is your patch, you see.

Sorry to seem pushy, but, all of HoMM3 is obsolete, so why would choose to only design software to suit one aspect of it?
I definitely agree that XXL WoG maps would be used a lot more than just XXL SoD maps.
I wouldn't see it being too difficult to modify the current editor you have to support 1.09/1.08. I'd hate to see this work die off and not really lead to anything. It has huge potential.
Otherwise, I'll be continuing to watch the VCMI project for a more sound solution.

I don't think heroes 3 is obsolete, I just think the people who play, just play it, they don't come on here to say anything, that's what I do pretty much.

Oh by the way does anyone have an rmg for XXL maps that creates pretty hard random maps, with full underground and upper ground. LOTs of creatures at a hard level, I;m not talking azures etc, but harder than the map editor can do on 'hard' settings, if that is not possible how about just increasing quantity of the stacks. That can also allow a max of 8 players, including 1-2 humans. No water at all hehehehe. If anyone has anything like this, would utterly appreciate it. If not that's absolutely fine too.
Lastly, I asked in a previous post whether you could generate random maps in the standalone map editor and edit them as you please. There where a couple of a replies after my post but I couldn't figure out if anyone of them were replying to me.
