Yeah, I think its totally lame that the female Naga are basically a snake with a human on top of it. I had hoped for a more Geisha like look, but reptilian.

I've read "The art of war" (its translation actually), it's much more than that.

Formally yes, but essentially not.

Sun-Tzu's main intuition, that made it possibly the greatest military genius ever, is that the best warrior is not whoever does more victims but whoever minimizes the army's losses. From this point onward, everything is consequential: you have to trick your opponent into losing rather than marching directly to the slaughter, you have to lure him where you want him to be, and you have to know his mind to predict his moves, and so on. All in all, it does sound pretty close to what Erwan said about their field-controlling abilities.

If anything, I'll be curious to see how adopting a controllish and trick approach can coexist with engaging fair one-on-one duels among "equal" units, because these two sound quite different strategies to me. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Quote:

And I seriously doubt that they had the said person's work in mind when they designed the faction

Ok, but that'd be strange. I mean, the video does say "The naga art of war" and this expression was directly coined by Sun-Tzu itself. They are speaking about an asian themed faction strategy, and this faction hints at core concepts of the best asian strategist, and they summarize all of it into the most famous expression from said asian strategist. All without even thinking about the man in question? It would leave me astonished.

Quote:

(like they cared that Lilim is actually plural, that a two-headed Cerberus makes no sense even in a fictional world when you have a three-headed equivalent in another game from it and so on).

Yes, they made mistakes. Lilim I think is just a result of ignorance, while I think they made a bi-headed cerberus just for animation issues without caring enough of the huge discrepancy it would spawn. Still, these are minor facts that can't hinder gameplay and do only marginal damage to flavor. I don't think, however, that they made a bad work with the naga flavor.

Quote:

As for the idealistic image of "honourable people that commit acts of violence when necessary", it hardly becomes interesting or believable just by pointing at Japan. The honour is something pretty relative - just like everything else - and is usually related to particular space and time, but I doubt that they will emphasize this. What I expect is a focus on a generic "wise race" which preaches ambiguous but undoubtedly "deeply true" slogans to the "ignorant outsiders" and couldn't care less about their point of view. Hope I'm wrong...

Of course it all depends if you do indetify with the faction and their moral code or not. I'm sure there is at least someone out there who could comment that Inferno has the most honourable philosophy. Yes, the nagas have their convictions and they act as they see necessary according to those, and yes, such convictions are their own relative point of view, and no, the convictions in question being about honour, perfection, purity and beauty doesn't make them a peaceful race. All of this makes them believable as pretty much dozens of real-existing human civilizations.

What annoys me more than anything else about the naga, actually, is how the female nagas get a pretty human face while the male nagas get snakey faces. It's something that I can live with it, but at least for now it's really bugging me and it's probably the only decision they made (regarding the naga) that I really don't like. I know naga in mythologies come in many different forms, but i just wish they had put a third, very different and awesome naga unit in there, to express that they come in a myriad of forms. the way it is right now, makes it seem like it's just how all female and male nagas are.

I actually like the way they did this.
I mean, Ashan is about factions. We have 3 elves, 3 darkelves, several humans, 5 dwarves, etc. By doing this they actually made a faction that has more nagas than other creatures, however both nagas look different. They actually did a great job on trying to correct factions of H5 (except for the 3 orcs on Stronghold...)
The only bad thing is the spring spirit/snow maiden. They were made just to make a creature with features of Indian culture and the same creature with features of Japanese/Chinese culture. I don't say that they should trow away the idea, but we already had a creature with a Indian look - the core naga - If they hadn't a better idea (probably with a little research they could find something easilly), they could make the Spring Spirit look like a Naga made of water. It would be the same creature, and that would make 3 nagas instead of 2, but probably it would feel more original than the current Spring Spirit.

EDIT: just an idea. For the final boss of the final expansion I would like a creature similar to the Monolith. A creature with 6 dragon heads, each one representing each elemental dragon and with someone representing the seventh dragon. If the bosses will have too much visual appealing, at least I hope something insane as the final boss to end the H6

It seems possible we will see many minor DLC-s in the near future.

First few being CE items and or preorder items which would open up as separate download some time after release.

I'm afraid we will soon see something like this:

"3 Extra Heroes! - digital download - 4,99 (VAT included)!"

Uh. I need to stop thinking about worst case scenarios .

I wouldn't mind if:
- the prices aren't to high;
- the things they sell are actually something new and not something they scrapped from the game just to sell separatelly;
- they don't sell as DLCs something big like a faction.

You know, I think these special offers are made more to avoid less sells than to make more money. I mean, giving extra content for the people who pre-orders is actually a good way to avoid loses of sales because of piracy. And personally, I think it's a better idea than the scary DRM that forces you to be connected all the time to the internet.

great news.also shows that its better to wait for the final game release to see how creatures finally end up in every aspect..looks/names/abilities and all. overall i think sanctuary rocks!! except for containing the twin sister of water elementals....i'd say they r up there with the best factions of h6. lets see how the gameplay works out tho.

i actually found out that the Naga homeland of Hashima is an actual island off the coast of Nagasaki in Japan...famous for the Atomic Bomb attack in WW2.

the island is also nicknamed the Battleship Island....looks kinda deserted and ghastly now

also realized that the Kirin is inspired by Chinese culture, hence the resemblance with the Chinese dragon.the kenshi, yuki onna and shark warriors are japanese inspired.

Does anyone know what the system requirements will be? I know we were told before that "if your computer can play Heroes 5 then your computer will probably be able to play Heroes 6", but what will the difference be?

Will it work on, say, a Windows XP computer with a 2.4 ghz processor?

We don't know if that's true, actually. I had asked a long time ago about the system requirements because I was shopping for a new computer and I wanted to make sure I got something good enough, and someone responded saying that nothing has been said yet about the system requirements but that he (or she) bets that if the computer can play H5 then it will be able to play H6. I don't remember who it was who said that, though.

I find it really frustrating that they haven't told us anything about the system requirements yet. It seems like a lot of people want to know, and it's not like talking about it will give any of the game away. But maybe now that beta testing is going on, some of the people testing the game can help give us a idea of what the system requirements will be like.

Elementals are suppose to be boring and generic creatures.

They should have left them out.
Well I wouldn't exactly call the elementals themselves 'generic', but the whole earth/air/fire/water thing is IMO horribly clichéd and really needs to be dropped.

I hope it's true, because I really want to play Heroes 6 without having to spend a couple hundred dollars on a new computer. I really hope that they don't make us wait until just before the game is released to tell us. But yeah the people in the beta testing will be able to give us a clue as soon as it starts.

I could get down with the idea of king kappa instead of kappa king just like cobra and king cobra. sounds more like a separate species rather than royalty.

So ladies and gents,

We have the 5 factions for the vanilla Heroes VI game!

The faction abilities:

Haven -> Guardian Angel (protection from all damage)
Necro -> Ressurrection (raise dead)
Inferno -> Gating (more troops)
Orcs -> Rage (increased attack, morale, etc.)
Naga -> Honour (increased defense)

They mentioned that not all magic schools will be available to every faction, so I'm guessing that certain schools favour certain factions better than others:

Haven -> Light (& Air?)
Necro -> Prime & Dark
Inferno -> Prime & Fire
Orcs -> Earth & Air
Naga -> Water & Light

I have Prime for Necro and Inferno because they directly worship the primordial dragons, Asha and Urgash so probably linked closely to the magic school.

Orcs link with Mother Earth and Father Sky.

Naga seem like a "good" faction, so obvious water magic and then Light.
