Your spell did not necessarily fail..I handle that spell a bit differently. Sometimes..they take a bit of time to answer. It is not instant like it suggests in the spell definition. It could also be a very inopportune moment when they get back with you *grins*

That's fine then. In the mean time, I should probably decide whether I should have as my starting weapon a crossbow or a staff.

Ok, starting equipment is free unless there is something odd or unusual. Not going to copper piece and silver piece people to death. Any more purchases for people before we head out? Will update tomorrow if not.

How much is booze 'to go' at the tavern? And what kinds do they have?

Parchment (10 sheets)
Sealing wax (1 pound)
Spellbook
Seal(s) of the appropriate kind(s) for someone who would be sending messages between an envoy and his king
1 spare set of reasonably nice robes (such that he wouldn’t get thrown out of the entourage for looking like a beggar)
6 candles actually since we get unlimited cantrip uses forget these; Aleron will use Light most of the time. He’s arrogant enough to think he’ll never need non-magical light. 
Soap (1 lb)
Flask or waterskin; I couldn’t find a description of the flask to tell if it was the sort you drink out of or the kind you’d put potions in.
Should bring rope, but I don’t think that’s something Aleron would think of or need for his job prior to the moss-zombie apocalypse.
Starting rations
For starting weapon…ah…crossbow, I guess. And two dozen bolts for same.
200 starting gold
That too much?

Nothing magic or too out of the ordinary so that is fine..as for alcohol..
Ale 5cp a mug
Mead 7cp a mug
Elven Wine - varies..but hardly ever under a gold..can be up to 10gp a bottle. Not much alcohol however.
Dwarven Ale - 2sp a mug
Dwarven Mead - 5sp a mug
Whiskey - 1sp a shot
Dwarven Whiskey - 1gp a shot..the smell of which can put an elf under..however usually ONLY sold in a dwarven town (besides dragon ale (which has nothing to do with dragons) the strongest alcoholic drink that won't kill a person with a sip).
Dragon Ale - Not sold in this town, only available in the Capitol of Dion. 4gp a mug. Not even a dwarf has successfully finished a mug without using magic.
As for a flask, can be used for both but a potion flask would be more ornate and cost more. Most use waterskins for drinking water.

Oh is Raistlin (spelling?) in for a surprise when he tries to sneak a peak at Aleron's book without permission. Not that he needs to mind, as I said..all the listed spells are available to the casters. Only special spells need be found and memorized (which none have yet).

Ok, going to make an update, but I have to say something. For the next couple of weeks I will not be around much. Getting near finals and I am WAY behind in my classes. I start a new job, so I will have very little time for the next three weeks. I am sorry. I didn't think I would be this far behind. If anybody is interested when I have more time this WILL be picked back up.

Magma creatures. Able to hurl small globs of magma up to 10', immune to any fire spell. Not Undead. The good news is they will not destroy your weapons, nor turn you into one of them..the bad news is anything not metal they can melt through..and they are a lot tougher then the moss creatures. Also, though comprised of earth..no plant spells or dig (etc) can harm or do anything to them.
