Hmm, pest or cholera...

H5 had Isabel, Griffin Eternal and Agraelag.
H6 has puke dukes, "me so sanctuary", and a disjointed storyline.

Seriously though H5's story was crap, it's much more tolerable than H6. I never facepalmed so much in my life as I do now while playing the H6 campaign. H5 was just poorly written but H6 is so bad, it's annoying even.

Isabel? Give me Isabel back! Anyone! I would take even Pinocchio sharpening his nose to use it as a spear over the retards we got now.

Anastasya, the Bella wanna-be! Kiril who think he's in Alice's Wonderland rather than Sheogh. His jokes are so cold, they could freeze Sheogh over! Irina is such a cowboy, I half expected her to finish her one-liner's with a "yee-haw!". Further on her character's development, she might actually pick up a Texan accent. Oh not to mention her sidekick, Katsue! Are you guys serious that they have good voice actors now? Such a failed stereotype of Asian accents! Anton, the irrational fanatic and the evil humans, even the poor Faceless and the Orcs are being abused by them. It worked the first time around but now it already feels dated. And then we got Sandor, the gay adventurer with the true meaning of the word 'gay' and Kraal his trusty sidekick and that goblin, his trusty sidekick's trusty sidekick, and all of them together have one failed sense of humor. Honestly if I hear Kraal chuckling one more time, I will drop the Stronghold campaign.

I vote Kiril and Anastasya as the worst characters to ever disgrace the entire might and magic universe, old or new. And I doubt there's anyone who can challenge on that.

someone give him a red star for quality post. i was laughing my ass off reading this.

and whoever it was that said kraal and goink are funny... really? which line was it? goink in goblin means handsome or the continuous repetitions of those orc-english phrase translation lines? they were pathetic. kiril was by far the worst character but kraal and goink irritated me more than anastasya. they all were terrible except for maybe kaspar and cate.

I've enjoyed the campaign well enough so far with Anastasya and Sandor. Maybe it's just because after H5, it's almost impossible for it to not be better. The H5 campaign was so bad that I stopped playing it halfway through; I just moved on to playing custom maps. No comparison between H5 and 6 for me.

I get the impression that Bluebeak is just a familiar bird they stuck in  as a side. Raven's are sometimes represented as being guides, except the bird doesn't really do that either. It just sort of chills.

I guess I distract myself with the gameplay enough that I can just kind of take the storyline for granted. I don't really think about it. I guess I don't notice when its bad as much as I notice when it is good. (And I never notice it being good with heroes.)

I have avoided the whole Twilight saga, so I guess that is why I am able to enjoy Anastasia's story for the most part. But I am only on the 3rd map of that one. As for the other campaigns, I'll see when I get to them.

I have been rather annoyed by Kraal in even the intro mini-campaign. I more laugh at the cut-scenes when the orcs are just yelling alot and letting sentinels and crossbowmen stab/shoot them down. Just because ingame combat works with a turn basis. It doesn't mean cut-scenes should mirror that closely. "Oh, it's the Sentinel's turn. He kills the stack of Maulers before they can relaliate. Same for the Crossbowmen. Guess the Maulers needed more Initiative. "

All that being said, I did enjoy the whole Half-Dead guy's story back in Heroes 4. That's about the only one I ever found somewhat creative or memorable.

One good thing about teh H6 story is the bakcground.

I Actually like the topic of a hidden war betwen A&F and how the Angels breeded the Human nobels to hold souls of their fallen companions. That was a nice topic.
So I think the background story is actually medicore or more. BUT!!!

We have the 5 children.
Anton: The fact that he was an EMO kid in the first map is one thing. The fac that he is a puppet of teh angels another. He just looks so stupid in his actions.

Kiril: Why? Why oh Why? He sound like written from o 13 year old. A llittle mor rage in him and he could be at least funny! LOBO style humor would suit him well.

Anastasia: When I first played her, I thout she was bad, Now I thikn she is not that bad. Atleast she done the right thing in thei end. (Which Bella from TW did not do yet)

Sandro: Actally my favorit frome those 5. I do not seethe problem whith Goink and Kraal. They actually gaveme the feeling that my Army has a soul.

Irina: Best background - worst implication. So much could be done with her. Maybe it sbecause I made her a Blood hero, but she seemd more evil and caningh the Kiril.

So on side notes.
@PureFun: The one part I actually finded Blue Beak funny was in Anastasias Campaigne, as it came out she is female (bluebeak)

@If you would read the horred CZ translation, whit bad naming, gender switches, sentences translated out of context and bad sentecne structure you would actually forgive that. (And this in a geme you pay aprox. 60$ (43€) for standard and 109$ (79€) for colletors) o to not talk to me about bad story. It's a better story then the one people get in my country in the same game for more money! I spent more time raging about those translations then thinking about the stupidity of the characters, due to teh simple fact that the translators stupidity was far supirior.

Video games almost never have "good" stories. Voice acting is invariably    not very good. Even games driven around story, Heavy Rain, or LA Noire are rather unoriginal, stereotypical and full of flat characters. Personally I am fairly content with the story so far, it's not the best portrayed, but its much better from a content perspective.

As for characters, I actually think that Sandors and Kiril's campaigns are my favorite so far. Sandor is an interesting character, and I personally get Kiril's snarkiness. It's a coping thing. The only character I am kind of sick of hearing is Irina. Her overly tom-boy-iness is getting annoying.

Otherwise, I don't expect much from the game, and it's an entertaining story that keeps me captivated. While certainly not winning any writting wards, it's far better than H5 vanilla, and it's characters that actively pissed me off by the constant stupidity of their actions.

I think the keyword here is 'execution'.
As long as it feels like the product doesn't insult my intelligence (I'm perfectly capable of doing that myself, thankyouverymuch) or extremely boring/uninteresting, I consider the story to be good.

I don't understand this argument - you are going to tar the entire medium to justify Heroes VI, as though it's somehow cosmically impossible for HoMM to exist with a strong original plot just because it's a game. I'm not even going to get into what is objectively good or not, but you probably haven't looked at Planescape or Legacy of Kain or The Longest Journey or {list goes on}? Even the Ico games qualify.

You, sir, obviously have very poor experience with the "video games".
As for what we currently have, I can only comment Anton for the time being. It's more or less like this:

Mission 1:
Anton: Who killed my father? I want answers or I'll raze my duchy to the ground!
Voices: The Faceless divide!
Anton: By zero?
Voices: Find them and you'll find out.
Anton: Men, there are Faceless among us and they divide, possibly by zero. I want you to kill everyone in the area until we expose them all!
Faceless imposter: Sorry, lad, it's only me. A bit of an overkill, don't you think? Mourn not, there are more of us.
Anton: Damn you! I'll raze the rest of my duchy then!

Prior to mission 2:
Anton: So, Anastasya, you killed father, so you shall rot in the dungeon for the rest of your life.
Voices: Something something something Faceless. Something something something divide.
Anton: On a second thought, I'll kill you now. Here you go...

Mission 2:
Anton: So now my barons are rebelling. Blast it!
Voices: The Faceless still divide.
Michael: Duke Anton, it is your duty to slaughter your barons' forces and prepare for the coming holy war because the demons are coming and there will be a war which will be holy.
Anton: And there are also some undead which hold me responsible for the chaos in the area. Damn these mausoleums!
Michael: Remove the un- and prepare for the holy war, we have no time. I'll compose a poem or two in the meantime.
Anton: All right, barons, you have rebelled because you like Ylath, the spirit of adventure and the corpse that's now hording undead in under the ground and although you have all behaved like spoiled teenagers, you are still my barons. Now let's see if I should execute you.
Voices: Find the hidden house where the Faceless divide!
Anton: Shut up already! I'll find the blasted house.
Cate: Hello, my little brat. See these elementals? There are some very important things about the Dragon-Gods that you have to associate with them but sadly I can offer only some random blabber. Anyway, go fight them, that's the mission objective anyway.
Anton: Whatever... Whoa, Kiril?! You have... have become... a communist!
Kiril: Silence you killer of little sisters forward slash angels! Fight!
Anton: So I defeated him. Now just to remove the -un like Michael asked.

Mission 3:
Michael: The Wolf duchy is under attack by the Naga. You need to prepare for the war that will be holy so go convince the Naga to leave and after you fail to do so - kill them all.
Anton: Sure, why not. The Naga have always been our allies but who knows what has happened. Men, we go to negoti...
Celestial with "L" name: Duke Anton, you are slow, inefficient and I'll speak to you with a loud voice because you are a worm! Duke Gerhard is dead and the Wolf duchy is in Naga's hands and fins.
Anton: And the problem is?
Celestial with "L" name: The time for negotiations is over so you have failed to negotiate and now you will not negotiate and will kill them all.
Voices: Faceless...
Anton: You are getting painfully repetitive, you know! What the hell are you anyway?
Voices: Free us!
Anton: Oh, right, trapped angels...
Voices: Don't forget that the Faceless divide.
Anton: All right you politely smiling four-armed half-snake half-... something who is walking among the corpses of your own dead army, where are the angels?
Voices: Boogeyman!.. We mean Faceless!
Anton: Eh? Show your face, Faceless! You don't fool me!
Faceless imposter 2: Hi there.
Anton: Did you kill my father?
Faceless imposter 2: Nay and you will believe me because I'm telling this to you with a broken Japanese accent.
Anton: Damn it, who could it be then?
Faceless imposter 2: Don't know but we'll help you find out because we have nothing better to do.

Prior to mission 4:
Demon horde: With this cut-scene where we slaughter the Haven army we compensate for the fact that we are being slaughtered by the Haven army in the game!
Uriel: Oh yeah?! I'm an important character and will kill at least some of you before you kill me! And you will have to attack me en masse to kill me!
Demon horde: No problem on both accounts.
Emperor Liam: Right, Uriel's killed, now you on the horses go die as well.

Intermission

Ahriban: I am a demon and I will talk demon stuff. Raze, kill, blood, destruction, power...

Mission 4:
Celestial with "L" name: The capitol is under siege. If it falls and the emperor is killed, this will be the end of the dynasty which - AND I WON'T EXPLAIN WHY, WORM - is a bad thing.
Anton: You kidding? The loading screen shows the emperor knighting me or something, this is presumably after I stop the demons...
Celestial with "L" name: Just go lift the siege, brat!
Anton: OK, let's see... Here's the capitol, it has never fallen to the enemy because it's our capitol and our capitol does not fall to the enemy. And here's the bad demon with "Boss" label who does strange things at the beginning of each week but otherwise just sits there and waits for me to gather a huge army. All right, men, let's show these demons that they may kill us in the cut-scenes but never stand a chance in-game!

I haven't completed the 4th mission yet but so far Anton is in short a manipulated imbecile with very little individuality. Exactly as I expected by the way.

Well, I was under the impression that most of them WERE teenagers Kiril and Anastasya were at least. If I were to guess I'd say Sandor was the only one clearly over 20 years old. their age were probably something like Sandor 21-20 Irina-Anton 19-17 (they never explained which one of them was older right?), Kiril-Anastasya 17-15

Though "unliving proof of that" line made me chuckle a bit at least, until they used it a second time later on.

I thought this was certainly much more interesting than H5, at least there was a little bit of mystery to the whole thing. though Yeah Irina's was quite bad after map 1, her replacing Hiroshi made no sense either, that and her and Sandor's plots really doesn't tie into the main story at all .
