Oh yes, fortifications instead of Castle. I forgot about that Hmm the townscreen looks really nice but the buildings look over expensive/rich imo. Still much, much better from the townscreens that we have now. Lets hope we dont have to wait another few months for them to be actually in game.

Some nice things seem to be in motion.
Hopefully it continues and the game gets to a state it deserves.

While somewhat cheesy, I must admit that all this puzzle hunts and mysteries have liven up the communities, so it was a solid move overall.

I agree with most guesses also.

Except the Market Place has those flags that are supposed to be found in the Hall of Heroes, so I'd change them. Then maybe switch again the Lich place with the new Market Place.

My guess would be that the building labeled "special building" is the Town Portal, and the two buildings on the right is something else (special buildings? dwellings?).

No, the 2 town portals are correct. The first "special building" is the Hourglass of Asha and the second one is the Chamber of Necromancy.

Also, the Tear of Asha is correct as well. In the current town interface, the Tear of Asha's icon is that statue.

I like the new town screen, right up the alley of Heroes 3! Just wondering if it will have that immersive, colossal feeling that players are wanting especially from Heroes 5...

The building below-left to the town hall has spider legs coming out of it, could this be the weaver building?

Not a fan of the green lights and that thing at the bottom left.
And some of the buildings seem oddly placed.
Otherwise not too bad (I expected much worse).

The green lights are arguably a bit overdone - but then, that's what I've said about the units all along also. I guess it's a matter of taste but I also find it looks better if you lower the saturation a lot to make the colours less intense, it also gives a more spooky look imo:

If I hear correctly: there's no moving camera and no camera that you can pan. Therefore it sucks compared to H5. But, any town screen is a good town screen.

Every Heroes game was graphically a progression from the last one, with by far the most significant progression being from H4 to H5 with the introduction of the moving camera at the beginning and the panning camera. This really made the town screens kick ass. None of the other games can touch the H5 town screens imo. So in order for the H6 town screens to 1up Heroes 5, they would need to include that and go a step further by including animations of the daily hustle and bustle of the town. In Necropolis you can see vampires gathering around an altar to feast on the blood of a captive maiden; in Haven you can see knights fiercely sparring with each other in a tournament with the peasants cheering them on; in Academy you can see well-dressed schoolchildren chasing an elephant down the decadent streets of the city; in Stronghold you can see orcs feasting and laughing around a large bonfire with goats & pigs roasting on a spit.

That's what would have needed to happen for me to be genuinely impressed. Heroes 5 left some large shoes to be filled when it comes to the town screens.

Bollocks to that, they added fly-throughs at the expense of proper architecture. Every town was either a pillar or a hole with buildings clustered around them, and all buildings looked nearly identical to another.

I'm with you on that, I never got into the heroes 5 factions anywhere as much due to these changes. It just didn't do it for me in terms of immersing me into the world. Everything seemed bland and I never felt like I was progressing from a lowly town, into a bustling city. I'd like to see how these screens look when they're moving in game, and whether they will be optimized

I thought the Heroes V town screens were very immersive, especially Necro and Sylvan:

I really liked the H5 town screens, I thought they were well done (except for the dwarves, that was just a big hole). My favorites were the elves and the academy. They were beautifully done, the music was superb and it was fun to explore all the details of the buildings up close. I'm not sure why people didn't like them, they were one of my favorite improvements to the games.

That being said, I don't think it needs to be 3d to be good, although that helped me want to "explore" the towns. I'm looking forward to the town screens for HVI just as much.

I agree, making the green lights more subtle would have definitely improved the outcome. Still, I'm quite pleased with the result.

I don't agree with that, I think the pillarlike structure of the towns not only worked with the fly-through but also gave a very distincs monumental feeling to the towns. Just look at the frozen still of Necropolis shown above, even without the animation it still looks better than the H6 one (which is not that bad, but not as beautiful as the H5 ones).

But for once, here is something that we cannot put UbiSoft to blame for. The majority, or at least the most loud-spoken, of the fans wanted the 3D townscreens gone and a return to H3 style, and that's exactly what we got. I think it's a pity also, but still at least something one can live with, as opposed to the town windows.
