No it was not a great idea. TBS are like chess, each move must be accounted for. The initiative bar destroyed any strategic thinking.

No really? It is just enough to look at the bar of fight to know which creature is going to play before the other one to carefully establish a strategy.

Look on the initiative bar? But it's ever changing! That is the problem with it. You give the wait command and the unit moves instantly after your next unit. What gives? You just have to spam the wait button over and over. You give the Haste spell and sometimes your unit won't even budge on the initiative bar. I have to guess if the spell will have any effect at all :/ Enemy unit has a chain of good morale? He will move 3 times before your ranged unit will even make a move. I know it's all based on unit stats so it's countable via those stats, but I don't find this "counting" a fun aspect of the game. In a "normal" Heroes battle system you know the order from the beginning. It's one move per turn. If you give the wait command your units wait till the end of turn to move again. If there are a couple of units you gave the wait command they take turns in a backwards order. And that's that. ATB is a system that generates a lot of confusion, which is bad for a strategy game.

You say the problem lies in each units individual initiative. So they could bring each units stats closer to reduce disproportions (your Zombie/Fury example). On the other hand if you give every unit an initiative of 9 or 10 what's the point of the system? ATB is a system that emphasizes fast units, unfortunately making them OP in the process...

Quote:
What the matter???? morale is a skill in H5 and luck also, so if the outcome of a fight is decided by a skill's choice where is the problem?

The problem is that it's random and AI tends to overuse this randomness into it's favor (example: how come my enemy has more lucky strikes if I have a luck of 8 and he has 3?)...

Quote:
i know heroes games are about strategic thinking, but come on!!!! Heroes 6 is one of the heroes game where strategic thinking is reduced to the maximum.
All the shooters have no range penalty and no limitation in shots, you can convert all you want in your faction to increase growth, recruiting from any of your castles and teleport your hero to the infinity so you didn't need to take logistic in consideration...
all this point were debated since 2011 so i am not longer going to extend over the subject.
My point is heroes VI should take the good ideas of any heroes from 3 to 6 (not only the 3).

I agree with you, Heroes 6 has many balancing issues, and it's far from being a perfect game with it's emphasis on defending/camping and healing strategies being one of them. Those are bad sides of the game...

But there are good ideas like cooldowns: imo the best way to encourage players to use mixed spells, and that's why I like this idea. For example in Heroes III instead of using spells like Fortune or Forgetfulness I rather use Implosion each time because it's simply a faster (but not the most elegant ) way to pulverize your enemy...

About the remixed Rampart theme. It's nice. But one thing bothers me...

I've read the themes description about Dark Elves visit into their lost homeland (probably part of the campaign). Sooo I wonder how will they handle it if there are no (at least not known) Sylvan units or Heroes in SoD...

One of the key things to do in an hypothetical H7 would be learning not only from past mistakes but also recognizing the successes. Cooldowns to spells, single & mass spells versions independent of secondary skills (just like in H2), heroes with more impact and posibilities on the battlefield but without the H4 approach, and so on...

Oh thats too easy! Say their homeland is still overran by holy Empire so you will fight Haven

Its exactly like in DM Sandro visits Seven Cities an fights Necromancers there, or like Flagar from PoTS is Shaman, etc

the new Rampart remix is amazing

I think Rampart is the best track in the history of M&M

I like original Rampart better than the remix.

But I agree, imo, Rampart song is the best track in HMM. Rampart town screen also the best town screen in HMM.

Can't wait!

I don't really care about previous Heroes versions, I'm used to H6 and I like it. The only thing I'm a little bit sad about is that maybe there won't be another expansion. Dungeon is great but Academy would have been a great addition too.

On the other hand, if there won't be another expansion chances are that they'll start preproduction of Heroes VII earlier. (Insofar as they haven't already)

This new remake is awful... And it's not surprising. In "Heroes VI", arrangements are quite poor (except the tracks done by Graves, Velasco and Dikiciyan).

the book is ok Ubi is trying to make sens of there on universe but I feel they changed some thing for worse compared to H5 myths non the less there are some new art pieces and especially new artwork for the non included races in H6 like Academy, Dwarfs, Elves and the now approaching Dungeon faction.

Any way regarding the new piece of music seams that remixing old music is the new thing for Ubi in regard to Heroes music, by the way was there an announcement regarding to who is in charge of expansion music ?

The Rakshasa  out the top of my head.

Quote:
Vengeful spirits from a forgotten age, the Rakshasas have lingered on the fringes of Ashan for millennia. Thirsty for revenge, these creatures have been rediscovered by Wizard travellers who - after many unsuccessful attempts - managed to summon and control them efficiently. The Rakshasa Rani are an imposing force on the battlefield, intimidating the enemy with their multi-armed, lion-headed bodies and wickedly sharpened blades. So fearful are their attacks that the enemy is unable to retaliate against them.

To boring bestman who chose to stay because the were slaves better treated by the wizards ... like live the mystery man don't make it mundane (in line with said universe)

I would agree, where it not that the two descriptions do not contradict eachother. As the Lion-beastmen bodies are imbued with powerfull spirits.

That sums up my thought too. I like when the world stays mysterious, full of different factors.
I hate it when they centralize everything, having a few entity/civilization that engineered everything with raw ''materials''.
