@Ethan
"Device that can find lost books?” The merchant looked at his son with a puzzled looked. “You know, I never had a use for such devices. Book people are usually organized, at least as far as books go, so they don't really need it. Anyway, it's much more profitable to just sell them a new book, each time they lose one.”

As his disappointment that his son can't grasp the simplest facts of the merchant's trade diminished, the rest of Ethan's explanation finally caught up with the man.

"Did you just say dangerous magical book? Those blasted wizards! Don't they know that a city catastrophe is bad for business? You can't sell anything to  dead man! Worse than that, you can't sell anything if you're a dead man.” The merchant scratched his head trying to figure it out. “Look, son, you're a... what you call yourself these days? An adventurer? This kind of stuff should be right up your alley, right? Go find that book before we all blow to smithereens. I'd say, find the man who'd profit the most of it. Do you know what it does? When you know the service on sale, son, finding the right consumer is easy.”

@Anatolios
The dwarf looked impressed.

"I know thought of it like that. It's amazing, really, when you think about it. But...” the dwarf whispered and glanced at the zombies, “you can't use them as test subjects. Even in the Alchemist Guild we haven't used living... well, moving people for our experiments.”

@Brian
Angua looked at Brian as if he was mad.

"Yes, we just need to look that way.”

She pointed towards the river Ankh.

@Wolfram
Captain Carrot nodded and strode inside. And stopped. It was too dark to keep going. Human vision needed time to adjust to the lack of light. However, the bar was full of eyes with no such disadvantages and all of them were looking at the Watchmen. Some of them were squinting menacingly.

@Wolfram
As his eyesight adjusted to the gloom, Wolfram made out the shapes around the eyes. The muzzle of a werewolf, the flashing fangs of a vampire, the terrifying form of a boogeyman even the wings of a Tooth Fairy. The bar was full of creatures who could not show themselves on the street without causing a panic. Finally, Wolfram's inquiring gaze lay on the bartender. Unlike most of the patrons, he looked normal except for his exceptionally hairy hands and thick uni-brow.

"And how can I help you?” He asked in an unfriendly voice while cleaning a glass.

@Brian
Angua squinted at Brian.

"A book with strong stench? What makes you say that?”

Brian turned to the thief.
"Would you be so kind to tell us again what has in common a magical book and this place you taken us to?
If I understood you correctly,this seems to be the last place he hid the book or what?"

"I-I think I'll stay here. I don't like going in there." mumbled the thief.

"I got a bad feeling about that place. I think we should both come." Said Angua to Brian and then turned to the thief, "and since I'm not leaving you here alone, you're coming with us."

Anatolios looked crestfallen, but he put the wand of the Portable Occult-Energy Transporter away.

"Disappointing. In that case I suppose I should analyze the already-available data. You have questioned these individuals as to their location and the time of turning already, yes? Where were they, what were they doing?" In a rare moment of sanity, Ana realized he didn't have that good a grasp of how the town was laid out. "Can you show me?"

Necrotellicomnicon Arc Finale

@Brian
Brian, Angua and the poor little thief they dragged along with them made their way under the Brass Bridge. What surprised the trio the most at first, was that there was a smell down there, that overcame even the stench of the Ankh. That was a smell of rotten flesh. It came from a highly decayed corpse leaning against the supporting pillar of the bridge. The man was once clad in heavy leather, but it was by now all cracked and dried out. What surprised the trio the most at last, was that the corpse raised its head when they came closer.

The corpse turned out to be the thief they were looking for. Sobbing*, he confessed about stealing the magic book. He knew it was forbidden, but he thought that it was merely due to the job's high difficulty. He also heard that if a young thief apprentice manages to pull a job no one else could, he would immediately be promoted to a full-time thief. There were no traps in the Library and the locks were surprisingly easy to pick. The Librarian was a bit of a problem, but he was taught that to evade a guard dog he needs to bring a piece of meat to the job. So he brought bananas. The last obstacle was the book itself. He heard that they leak magic, so he wrapped himself up in thick leather. Unfortunately, he underestimated the power of the book he was stealing and very soon the leather dried out and fell to pieces. Then his flesh began to rot.

The boy got scared, dropped the book on the street and ran for it. Sadly, he was too late. The Necrotellicomnicon irradiated him so much that its effects still lingered over him and he kept decaying.

Understanding, that they got all they could from their Line of Inquiry, Brian and Angua arrested the thief and brought him back to the Watch House.

@Wolfram

When it was all over, Wolfram was really glad that Carrot was with him. It was amazing how much charisma this red-headed giant possessed. Even the undead who don't look kindly on living guests in the Biers were captivated by his speech about helping the City in time of need. As Carrot explained the effects of the stolen book of magic, one of zombies stood up and tried to sneak out the back door. Wolfram noticed this and apprehended the suspect outside. When Captain Carrot joined him the two interrogated the zombie.

He told them that he found the book on the street after some lad lost it. He wanted to return it to him, but the boy ran away too fast to follow. He tried to get help to return the book, but every time he came close to someone, that man fainted and turned into a zombie. At first, he got scared, but as he thought about it he realized that this might not be so bad. It was about time that zombies became a majority in the city and it fell unto him to make it happen.

Eventually, he told them where he hid the book. Carrot sent a message to the Librarian to come and collect it and brought the zombie to the Watch House.

@All

And so, the Necrotellicomnicon was returned to its pedestal and chained up. The Archchancellor even agreed to invest a bit of University money in a better lock. All the zombified victims queued up to the Unseen University where the wizards changed everyone back to normal... after a few false starts.

The gates opened up as soon as the threat was over, letting out a score of merchants, travelers and tourists who were eager to get out of Ankh-Morpork and get some fresh air.

The zombie who was responsible for the outburst was arrested for Disturbing the Piece.

The young thief was the only one who could not be turned back into a human. The effects were just to strong. Because of that, Commander Vimes decided that the lad got his punishment already and did not lock him up for thievery.**

And the group of Temporary Lance-Constables? They were promoted to Temporary Constables for their good work on the case. Then they demoted to civilians because they did their part and were no longer of any use to the Watch. And then they were free to do what they want. What they actually did is another story all together...

*Well, trying to sob, since zombies can't really produce moisture. Mostly he was just coughing really hard.

**Although, the real reason was that he didn't want his cells to reek of rotten flesh.

Epilogue

@Bilious
Bilious woke up the next morning with a vicious hangover. Which was no different from how he felt the previous day. Or the day before that. Or any other day since he came into existence. His awakening was greeted by a kind “Ook.” and a banana that was shoved in his face. When he came around he noticed that his head hurt slightly less than usual. It must have been because the Library was always so quiet. The Librarian made sure of that.

Bilious expressed his desire to stay in the Library as it was the most peaceful place he'd ever seen. Since his former assistant was running around the world, the Librarian did not object, as long as Bilious would clean up his vomit himself. The fact that Bilious was a God and wasn't affected by magic as easily as people made it easier for him to handle magic books and soon he became a full-time Librarian assistant.

He spent his days in the Library, with only an unbearable headache, sorting magic books and reading through them to find a way to get revenge on all those High Gods in Dunmanifestin who spend their days getting drunk.

@Ethan
Once the quarantine was lifted and the gates opened, Ethan rushed to find the evil neighbor Freddy and free the fair Jaddis. After weeks of searching he finally located Freddy in a small cottage in the woods. Ethan burst in, swords a-blazing, and found Freddy relaxing in a hot bath. There was no trace of anyone else in the cottage. After lots of shouting and arguing, Freddy explained at sword point that he ran away from Ankh-Morpork because he couldn't tolerate being with his wife any longer. He needed some time for himself, so he went to this hidden cottage he bought for a time just like this. He had no idea where Jaddis is.

Crestfallen, Ethan returned to the city and sought out the man who gave him the job. When he found his home, a young lady opened the door for him. She introduced herself as Jaddis, the man's daughter. It turned out that she was never kidnapped. She just stayed late at a wild party the night before the gates were closed and decided to sleep over at her friend's house without telling her father. She came home a few hours after Ethan took the job and left the city.

Tired and angry, but much more educated in the ways of teenage girls, Ethan returned to the Mended Drum where he spent many a night, drinking beer and working on his poems.

@Anatolios
Once the book was retrieved, Anatolios had no more desire to help Trutha. What did raise his interest was the young thief who remained a forever decaying zombie. The fact that even the wizards at the University couldn't turn him back fascinated the inventor. He set up a lab in the city to study this most unusual zombie specimen. The boy went along with, expressing the hope that this might lead to the cure of his condition. Anatolios did not argue with that, knowing that indeed anything is possible. Very soon he met a... person named Igor. Igor came from a big and well-known family of Igors up in the cold country of Uberwald. Igors are all professional surgeons, butlers and assistants to scientists all over Uberwald, so it was small wonder that this stitched up man, who just happened to pass through Ankh-Morpork, gravitated towards Anatolios.

Together, Anatolios and Igor worked hard on researching the young thief and the different aspects of undeath. Of course, being the great scientist that he is, Anatolios soon figured out that conducting experiments on one zombie is not enough. He needed a bigger sample and a control group. For some reason he couldn't quite comprehend, there were people who objected to him grabbing men and women off the street for the sake of science and progress.

It happened a day after Igor packed his bags for no apparent reason (Igors have very good intuition about these things). A mob assembled in front of Anatolios lab. The sight of an angry mob brought tears to Igor's eyes. He was getting homesick and this reminded him of the old country. They even had pitchforks and torches and everything.

To make a long story short, the lab burned to the ground. It was hit by lighting, another detail that made Igor jump with glee. Igor got away and went looking for a new employment, as Igors always do. Most of the test subject burned in the fire. This was of course largely considered to be Anatolios' fault and no one cared about the fact that most of the test subjects were actually happy to help, since Igor made sure to take good care of them. They were certainly better off than out on the street.

They never found Anatolios' body. The reason for this being that amongst other things that Anatolios tinkered with in his free time was a flying apparatus. When the lightning struck it not only burned his lab, but also powered to the max his P.O.E.T. device, the flying apparatus and some other things he happened to carry on him. And so, with all this power, he flew way to the limitless horizon.

@Brian and Wolfram
Brian and Wolfram were the only ones who still followed Trutha to Omnia. Wolfram was a traveler by nature and this smelled like a good story, so he didn't mind, and Brian simply didn't have a choice. Disobeying the Patrician was not something one even contemplated of doing. On their way out of Ankh-Morpork they saw a man sitting by the gate. He was staring into nothing and looked as though he was in a deep trance. The guards said that he came last night and introduced himself as Lupo. When he was told the gate was closed he simply sat down and haven't moved since.

Brian, Wolfram and Trutha had many adventures on their way to Omnia. They met companions  who would help them in the journey, like Casanunda – a dwarf highwayman and world's second greatest lover and Rincewind – the world's worst wizard and best coward. No official record was made of their travels after they left Ankh-Morpork. But there are stories. The kingdom of Lancre, for instance, has folk tale about an invasion from a distant land that was repelled with the help of five strangers and one walking box.

There are many stories.

The Omnians have a holy book describing the rise and fall of a false prophet who turned out to be a sourceror, hell-bent on controlling the world. The main Church of Om declared that the impostor was unmasked and ultimately defeated by the Great God himself whose spirit possessed a parrot and shouted in the middle of a mess: “SQUAWK! Can Om create a stone he can not lift? SQUAWK!”. According to the scripture, this created a heated argument and when all heads were turned to the false prophet for an answer he said: “I don't give a damn.” and was thusly exposed and slain through prayer.

There is, however, a small faction that follows the teachings of the prophet Trutha. This little group of Omnians believe that the Church was so corrupted by the false prophet that no help could come from within and that Om guided a group of outsiders, lead by the prophet Trutha to defeat the false prophet.

There are many stories.

There is a story that is not a story, but in fact a rumor. A rumor of how the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork sent a special agent to Omnia in order to save the world. It is unclear what happened to that agent after that. Rumor has it that he is still traveling the world, doing secret missions for Ankh-Morpork. Although many of the Ankh-Morporkians themselves hold a belief that if such agent does exist, then the Patrician saw in his wisdom that he traveled and witnessed more than any man should and in his kindness locked him in the dungeons so he wouldn't have to travel and witness anything else.

There are many stories.

But only one of them is told from a first person perspective. That is the story of Wolfram, the traveling storyteller. It is told all around the Disc, wherever his legs take him. But to hear that story, you'll have to ask him yourselves.
