HOMM3 Armageddon Setup fails

Hey all,

I have installed HOMM3 on a Windows 8 computer and it works fine. I patched it to V1.3 and it still works fine. However, as soon as I install  Armageddon's Blade, the setup stops at 83% and the next message appears:

Error: An error occurred during the move data process: -132

At that point, the InstallShield tries to handle the cab-files of the _setup directory.

I've tried to install as Administrator, used compatibility modes XP SP2 and SP3 as well, but to no avail.

If someone knows a solution, please tell me what to do. I would be very grateful!

Maybe the disk's scratched? Try it on a different comp, if You get the same error, buy another copy.

Nope, then it works fine. The computer I tried uses XP SP3.

The problem still exists, I need another solution.
Thanks for the reply though!

Looked around the net, google-fu yielded this:

Quote:
A "move data process" error generally indicates a problem with installing or updating a program in Windows. The three-digit number after the dash (represented by the three uses of the # [pound sign] in the title) can vary, but some common ones are 106, 113, 115, 119, and 132.

This error can indicate a number of different problems:
You may have two installations running at the same time. Click OK in the error message dialog box to cancel the current installation and revert to the original.

Your computer may be out of hard drive space. Compare how much space you have available with how much space the program needs to be installed properly.

You may have too many files in your TEMP directory; delete or move all unnecessary files.

The file system on your computer may be corrupt. To fix this, run the ScanDisk utility on your hard drive. Set ScanDisk to perform a thorough scan on both the system and data files.

The CD, downloaded file, floppy disk, or other media you are using to install the program may be corrupt or damaged. Try looking for scratches or smudges on the CD, downloading the program again, running ScanDisk on the floppy disk, or getting a new copy of the CD or floppy disk.

You may have an older version of the program installed on the computer, with file permissions set so the new version can't update it. In that case, try uninstalling the older version first, and then installing the newer version. You may also need administrative rights to install the program if you're using Windows XP Professional or older.

Source

PS: Make sure that the folder You're trying to install to ISN'T set to Read Only.

No 2 installations running.

Your computer may be out of hard drive space. Compare how much space you have available with how much space the program needs to be installed properly.

I got a terradisk, the game partition is 250G

You may have too many files in your TEMP directory; delete or move all unnecessary files.

Deleted all (temp and %temp%) but no show.

The file system on your computer may be corrupt. To fix this, run the ScanDisk utility on your hard drive. Set ScanDisk to perform a thorough scan on both the system and data files.

All is well.

The CD, downloaded file, floppy disk, or other media you are using to install the program may be corrupt or damaged. Try looking for scratches or smudges on the CD, downloading the program again, running ScanDisk on the floppy disk, or getting a new copy of the CD or floppy disk.

Works on XP

You may have an older version of the program installed on the computer, with file permissions set so the new version can't update it. In that case, try uninstalling the older version first, and then installing the newer version.

Its the sequel and on XP it works.

You may also need administrative rights to install the program if you're using Windows XP Professional or older.

Ran as Admin. No show.

Make sure that the folder You're trying to install to ISN'T set to Read Only.
Windows 8 does not have read-only folders anymo. But the files are set NOT to readonly.

I've seen these suggestions on the net too, I just can't seem to get things going. I *so* hope I'm not running out of options on this one ...

The installer may not know such big numbers. Let's say, if you have 250179 megabytes it sees only the 179 megabytes, which may be to low. Try deleting or copying some big files. Note: I don't know how many digits it really sees, but I've seen somebody mention that somewhere on this forum some time ago.

EDIT: I've seen it here.

Ok, now we're on to something I'm going to check that one out, maybe I can make a new smaller partition and see what happens.

Thanks for the help! I'll get back to you.

Well I tried installing on a much smaller disk (97 GIG and later 8 GIG), but again to no avail.

Then I found a suggestion on the net to install the game in safe mode and guess what, I actually managed to install Heroes III and Armageddon's Blade! YAY!

Shadows of Death however starts as well, but immediately comes up with the following error message:

"Setup has found that you don't have Service Pack 4 installed on this machine."

The readme file on the CD shows the next requirement:
Operating System:  Windows® 95/98 or Windows NT® 4.0 Service Pack 4

so I guess it searches for the NT 4.0 SP4. This is needed for the multiplayer game. The installation of Heroes III and Armageddon's Blade signal this error as well, but offer the option to continue installation. Shadows of Death however does not and simply stops installing.

I have started the file 'setup.exe' in the directory _setup in all compatibility modes by using a shortcut, or a copy of the files on disk including the 'setup.exe', but no luck so far.

Does anyone have a suggestion on the solution of this one?

Come to think of it: did *no one* encounter this message using the original disks of the time the game was sold in shops? If so, what can I do to work around it?

Can you install on a different computer and then just move the whole heroes 3 folder?
Then, if you still can't play the game, try using HD mod.

Yes I can, but then it will not be in the Windows 8 registry. Isn't that a problem?

I've checked the page, maybe the one called 'Baratorch' can fix this? I'll await your answer first. Thanks for your reply!

As far as I know the HD mod only works with HOMM 3 SoD / Complete or mods based upon.

Because I have the original games already? Just a fix would get me thru the last part, or so I hope. People can install the game in Win8 using the original disks, so it should be possible, it's just the way how thats unknown.

Yes, but it seems like you cant solve this installation problem. On the other hand, a drag drop version of H3 Complete will take 15 minutes to download and since you have the game already, it's not even piracy. The result will be the same game and you'll be able to play any campaign you want.
