- Yes, that is much apreciated. The desert sands house many secrets beneath them. food is a welcoming asset, I dread the taste of conjured food. one thing they're yet to perfect. water on the other hand is not that bad, as a last resort drink. We are sure that your man will be of great use to our cause. As of now it is a bit to early to part ways as our goal is on the same path we're taking now. I can't say anything about the other ones though.- Zayl paused for a moment. Ranila walked besides him, you could see the heat is taking a bit of a toll of her. She did however had an aura of frost going around her, cooling her down.
- Then there's the question of the archmages- She said to Zayl
- oh they probably won't even bother to hear me out as always. recently they've been pretty preoccupied with their clumsy portals. didn't end well for me when I dabbled with them. you never know what's on the other side. Remember the time I delved into some god forsaken place and dragged out some of most valuable tomes of arcane magics we have in Vendigr? I'm pretty sure none of them actually opened and delved into the knowledge they held. these years, it's Lighun portal this and lighun portal that. all the effort goes into replicating similiar results and all. open up gateways to a new world and so.
- Why are you so sceptic about it?
- It won't end well. I can bet all my wealth on it.

Bria rolled her eyes as soon as the fiend finished his instructions and threats. She followed it by a faint but audible hmph as a result of her annoyance. The pirate dislikes it when she’s being bossed around. Yet at that point of time, it matters to her minimally since she was more interested in the place.

As they walk towards the king, her eyes darted in different direction observing the inside of the palace, looking for something that she needed or something that could appear as a hint that she might use for her quest.

When they reached the King, Bria avoided his eyes and bowed to him like just what Khaos advised her. Diplomacy matters irritated her deep to her spine but she assured herself that this was better than staying inside that rotted cell.

"My king, I have thought about the problem with the portal and I think that it can be solved fairly easily.", Khaos said, "This human girl and I will enter the portal and find our way to the other portal which is causing all of this trouble. We will seal it and restore the balance."
"Of course, it's easy when you say it, but what if something goes awry? It is just too risky... Besides, how will you be able to seal the other portal?", the king asked.
"You do not have to worry about me, for I am more than capable of surviving the process of sealing. "
"I see, I see... This girl, wasn't she the one that caused the commotion the other day?"
"Indeed, my king, but she was exausted from her journey. She will not make the same mistakes again."
"Very well, then... If you think that your mission won't be a futile one, you are free to go. However, a young boy has been staying here for a couple of weeks. His tales of a world from where he hails are amusing to our people. Yet, I can sense it that he longs to return home even if he is perfectly fine here. I had a chance to speak with him and he told me that he has been hitchhiking all the way from Adarmis to get to us. The human lands were ravaged by the restless Nantross,  and if his tales are true, I fear that they will come to wage a war on us too."
"They won't possibly dare to come here if they value their lives. The Lighuns will not succumb to their attacks as long as these mountains stand. If they do come... just hold on until I return."
"Either way, I say you should take the boy with you. He does look for a way home, and he may just find it if he keeps looking."
"My king? Will he be able to keep up with us? Will he be able to endure the journey?"
"That I cannot answer. But if his will is strong, he should be able to make it."
"Alright. I will see to it that the portal is returned to normal and the balance restored."

Khaos bowed and signaled Bria to go.

Portal. Ding. The word echoed inside the pirate’s head repeatedly that made her slightly attentive to the conversation with the king. And that whole time she was feeling uneasy, the mix of curiosity, excitement and fear poured all over body.

When they reached the outside of the palace, Bria immediately approached Khaos and shoot him a barrage of questions, “Where is this portal you were talking about? When will we go there?  What about that trouble you were saying back there?”

"You have a big mouth, human.", responded Khaos, "I suggest you keep them closed and see to it that the boy is kept safe when we get to the other side."

I saw the pair exit the palace, and though I couldn't tell who the woman was, I knew that the large, black figure had to be Khaos of whom everyone is talking about. The woman wasn't actually happy; who knows, maybe she had PMDD?
"Hey there", I said as I approached them, "Err, Khaos, right? I'm Alexander, the king's probably told you about me."
Khaos looked at me with his surprisingly cold eyes, probably trying to size me up. "You don't look like the other humans here. Firstly, your outfit is different; then your eyes aren't the same as the others' - they are more elaborate than those of an ordinary human; and the aura around you... there is no magic in it. I have never been amazed by a human in my whole lifespan as I am now."
"Thanks, I guess. Say, do you happen to know anything about dimension traveling?", I asked.
"Indeed. The Lighuns opened up the first portal leading into another dimension. I do not know what it looks like now, but the portal treatens to engulf the whole world if the order is not restored there.", he answered.
"Really? Seems to me that the portal will spread until it finds the other one on this world. They will merge and create a single, gigantic one. It could be even worse if there are more than two portals existing. At least that's what I remember that was written in the fiction I read."
"Let us not waste any more time. Take everything you need with you, we will leave in the evening."
"Alright, I'll be waiting near the fountain."
"You", Khaos turned to Bria, "I trust that you will remain calm from now on. I must go somewhere alone now; stay with the boy until I return."

With these words Khaos walked away. I couldn't tell where.

Bria’s eyes got stuck on the boy upon seeing him. Her jaw dropped at gazing on such peculiar yet familiar kind of wardrobe.  The pirate walked towards him and ignored the blabbers of the fiend. Her heart pounded faster as she neared him. She was very shocked to see somebody like this in this place. A lot of questions and conclusions drifted inside her mind. And a lot of them she wanted to ask the odd boy. But the pirate knew she must not take on things fast.

At first she looked at the boy curiously then she set an inviting expression and a lovely smile. “Hello there little boy,” she said with a pleasant voice as she pats him on his head, “Do you want some sweets?”

I pointed at a building not too far away "There is a tavern over there. We can eat without paying if we tell the owner that we're with Khaos. Trust me, everyone here worships him like a god."

I started walking and turned my head around "You coming?"

The woman and I entered the cozy tavern. It was one of those more classy ones, there weren't any shady looking guys hanging around, the floor was made out of fine wood, and the most important thing is that it didn't have the repelling odor that a regular tavern would have. Simply put, it was nice.

We went to a table by the wall and sat down. I slowly examined my surroundings and the people there out of sheer curiosity. Or boredom. Well, you get it...
While waiting for someone to take our order I decided that it would be best if I got to know who this woman is. "Hey, uh... You haven't actually told me your name. If we're going to travel together we might as well get to know eachother, right?"

“Hey here!” Bria called on the waitress, waving her hand up high, full of energy, eager to savor her long awaited moment of filling her belly with wine when the boy interrupted. She turned to him and said, “Oh, my name is Bria, Bria the cunning. I’m a pirate.”

She smiled at him and continued, “You are Alexander right?”

“Alex… an… der…” she said subtly as if trying to remember or relate something to the boy’s name. Then she giggled faintly and looked back at him.

“So how did you end up here? You know you look really different you know, like you aren’t really from here right?”

"It wasn't the first time someone's asked me this same question; when you're on the road people ask where you're from, and when you give them the answer they send you across oceans to meet with the Lighuns who, as they say, can actually understand what you're talking about.", I said jokingly, "But to make a long story short, I woke up in a forest on Adarmis and then I thought this was a dream, so I strolled though the woods and following the hoofprints on the forest ground I got to some Tauren village. At first I was just sitting on a stump, thinking of what to do next, then I met a Tauren who escorted me to their druids, or shamans... but, eh, you get it. The big druid performed a ritual of sorts and communicated with the forest spirits who told him that I emerged from a green light that came from the skies. That's when I blacked out just to wake up in a fort with some knights and that's when I figured out that this no longer is a dream..."
I paused for a moment and then continued, "The head of those knights asked me who I am and he explained that some Nantross beings attacked the Tauren village that I was in. Luckily I was saved by another knight and brought there. Just when I thought that I'm gonna join them for a meal a soldier rushed in and told us that the Nantross are attacking. The people escaped through the underground tunnels which were leading into a forest nearby, however, the knights remained there and tried to fight the aggressors off. I don't know how that ended as I immediately went away with a group of people whose village was destroyed by those bests. Hitchhiking from one place to another I left the land of Adarmis and ended up on Tarquiss. I encountered a group of Lighun traders and they agreed to take me here. So, yeah, that's about it."

I turned around and saw a wench approaching; it was about time.
"I'll have boar ribs with a little bit of spicy sauce and a mug of ale. What do you want to order, Bria?"

“Oh,” Bria replied to the boy, a hint of boredom could be noticed on her face. She just realized that some of her questions were unanswered. She stopped for a moment to think if she asked the wrong question.

“Give me a barrel of wine,” she said as she turned to the waitress.  The waitress responded with a shocked expression but Bria gave her a sharp and fearful look. The girl trembled but still had the guts to reply, “But… we don’t have that kind of serving here…”

“Are you m-“the pirate said in an annoyed tone, acting to stand up and ready to pull her dagger to meet the waitress’ neck but stopped as soon as she realized that she was in front of the weird boy. Somehow she felt, she shouldn’t act violently. She got back to her calm composure, “Okay, how about five tankards?”

The waitress nodded, the sense of fear still evident on her trembling hands and voice, “Oo..ookay…” she said as she nodded and then she went away.

“So,” the pirate turned to the boy again, this time hoping to throw the right question and get a reasonable answer, an answer that she might use as a hint to her quest, “Where did you come from? I mean you know, you look different with that outfit…”

"Oh, that...", I said with a smile on my face, "Haha, well, I'm from planet Earth. You probably never heard of it, although I can't blame you for that. It's a really stupid place if you ask me. There are so many politicians and celebrities and people are brainwashed by their religions... Ugh, makes me glad that I'm not there anymore."
I took a deep breath and looked at my Nirvana hoodie. It reminded me that I didn't listen to them for a long time, but, hey, for me even a day without Nirvana is like sitting in a room without any lights and no sound.
"Yet, I can't escape the fact that I must return. The life here is just too boring with no computers and the lack of rock music. If you had experienced a glimpse of what the technology has brought to our world you would understand how good it can be. For instance, people have invented cars that we use to travel really fast from place to place. Or better yet - the planes! You can actually fly with them anywhere you want at enormous speed! But enough with my weird descriptions. It all comes down to this - people have tamed the once wild world and machines regulate almost everything."

Of all the facts the boy has spouted, it was the planet Earth that astounded Bria the most. Her muscles stiffen and her whole body froze. Her nonstop talkativeness seemed to have ended for she was speechless the whole time the boy told this story.

The pirate could have got off from her seat and extract more information from him by force but instead she chose silence.

Bria gave the boy a cold, serious look that slowly went into a concern and sad one. After a moment, she turned away from him, still holding that sad face. She smiled for a bit then spoke in a faint, low voice that almost turned into a whisper, “Your world… sounds wonderful.”

Bria’s responded blankly, like she just woke up from day dreaming. It took moments before she understood what the boy had said. A burst of laughter suddenly spurted from the pirate as if she was trying to shrug off her previous behavior.

“Oh well me? What about me?” she responded while thinking for an answer. And she thought for a while and more, and longer, but couldn’t seem to remember anything until she became aware that the tavern girl was serving her wine already. She took it and sniffed it, and from the look at her face, one can tell that she had felt heaven. Then she chugged her glass of wine excitedly.

Suddenly, after the wine reached her belly, she turned to Alexander, her eyes glinting with eagerness, and her face - full of energy. “Yeah, me, I’m a pirate!” Bria said conceitedly. “And that name you know – Bria the cunning is feared by anybody who knew the seas well.”

“I was sold to a slaver when I was just a child,” the pirate continued in a tone that seemed like she never felt any regret, sadness or anger about it. “That guy had a ship, so he took me there and made me do errands for him along with the other children that she brought with him.”

“And then one day,” she kept on after managing to drink up another glass of ale,” I went into real trouble. I got hungry and tried to steal food. I got caught and got punished but… a…”

She paused for a while and from the look on her face, she seemed like trying to remember something – something shallow that isn’t even worth remembering.

“Oh yeah, I got punished and well ofcourse, you know I got this instinct thingy and I ended up killing the guy,” she paused for a while and looked away from the boy, her face look bored, “Killed him with a knife.”

“And the best part was,” then she chugged another glass, “the captain saw that, what I did. And he was entertained.  So he became fond of me trained me.”

“Actually, I didn’t think it was training coz I’m already good.  Maybe we can call it practice eh?” she bragged and laughed while drinking another gl… this time it was the tankard and she was spilling some on the table and her clothes.

“And so to cut it short boy,” she said as she put the tankard down and locked her eyes on him, “I became one of them - the pirates and started wrecking havoc on the seas.”

And then Bria laughed maniacally.

The sun had passed the high noon and the procession had covered a decent distance by then. Leaving behind the lush jungle they'd reached the rocky wastes where the midday was very hot. The female mage's chilling aura was now leaving behind a trail of water that evaporated as soon as it appeared. Even the birds had quited down and retied for the hottest part of the day. A shout rang out from the captain of the guard:
"Cease!", the grumble and roar of ogres echoed in the air as the taskmasters stopped the convoy. "Make camp, 5-2 guard!"
As the soldiers jumped into action and the hustle spread Karev and Ilena stepped aside to let them do their work.

- How much we've covered?
- About a third of the distance.
- The heat is merciless, you can tell on the rest of them. it is wiser to wait it out before continuing- Zayl pondered- I'd like to meet this fellow that will accompany us onwards- Zayl said to the princess who was nearby and was being attended by her servants.
Ranila returned the waterskin to Zayl.
- What did you do to the water?
- Added some lemon juice and some mint. Rather refreshing on this heat.
He noticed another two travelers, and gestured them to join.
