The camp was quickly set up, the Drakk's being surprisingly efficient.  A large canopied open-sided tent had been put up for the comfort of Aura and her guests.  Carpets and rugs covered the floor and large pillows and arm rests circle a large, gold octagonal table, encrusted with sparkling gems.  On top, resting upon a gold tray are several lapis lazuli tulip shaped glasses, their rims embellished with delicate gold filigree decoration.  Two servants stand ready beside a large polished tin samovar.  The sweet aroma of fruit and flowers of the herbal tea fills the air.  The scent mingles with the savory meze laid out on the table.  Small individual dishes of dates, dumplings, spiced meat, chopped vegetables, dipping sauces and creamy dips, bite sized pieces of herbed cheese, dolma and tabbouleh.  Hanging from the raised center of the tent, a small enchanted hanging lantern swings gently, distributing its chilled air and cooling the inhabitants of the tent.

Aura gestured warmly to her guests to join her and naturally she sat at the top of the table.  Positioning herself comfortably amongst the pillows, reclining against her resting stool she signaled her servants to begin pouring the hot sweet tea.

After they were seated, a young Drakk guard appeared at the entrance to the tent.  His shimmering green/gold skin shone in the mid-day sun.  Taking off his helmet, he entered the tent and bowed humbly before Aura.  "No need for strict formalities here, Rhaljakk.  Please come and be seated.  You must be quite fatigued".  The young Drakk beamed and nodded, throwing his helmet to the side and slapping his hands together as he surveyed the feast.  "Come sit by me cousin", Aura began, "there are some people I very much wish to show you off too".  As Rhaljakk made his way around the group, Aura began her introduction.  "Let me introduce you all to my cousin, Captain Rhaljakk Oud Ksk Ibn Vrael Ibn Qlastjiik, Scholar of Lore and Marker of Knowledge at Rho Ksk University".  Rhaljakk saluted crisply at his introduction.  Aura then introduced her guests, "Rhaljakk I would like you to meet my human guests, Karev and Ilena, who are travelling with us to Hjalnuur".  Rhaljakk bowed.  "And Zayl and Ranila".  Rhaljakk turned and bowed again.  "Zayl and Ranila are here to study our ancient history.  They are researchers.  It is they you will be accompanying".

Rhaljakk hunkered down amongst the cushions.  Servants discreetly poured the hot sweet tea for each guest, the soft lilting sounds of a lone rebab being played as the conversation began.

"I'm done.", I said as I put the last rib on the plate. The meal was quite delicious, but what Bria said was echoing through my head and it didn't really feel nice to eat while sitting with a pirate-girl-killer-alcoholic- ...err, yeah, let's stop there.

"Shall we go now, Bria?", I asked as I was getting ready to get up.

- Captain- Zayl said.- Before we embark the long and adventurous journey before us, there is one thing you'll need to remember. when on the site you are to obey our orders without question. which is usually one thing. do not touch anything unless we say it's allright to do so. what we are threading on may as well change the written history as we know it. We are not to study Drakk history however, no. We are digging deeper. to the time when men were mere monkeys and Drakk were wee lizards. Before the dawn of dragons and even lighuns. I think this is the time we reveal the nature of our quest. We have delved into the remnants of the civilisation who built the Blackstone Fortresses.- By saying "we" Zayl clearly referred to himself only as one could say from his intonation.
- And We believe that we're not alone on this. before Meeting my companion in a border town I was attacked by a few posessed by demons. So this journey is bound to have some trouble. But your cousin assures us that you are very capable with a weapon, among your other skills. which is good. I hate to waste money on sellswords who are bound to stab you in the back at a slightest glimpse of shiny treasures. which is why your company and expertise is more than welcome.

Rhaljakk laughed warmly at Zayl.  "Oh pray forgive me Master Zayl, I mean not to insult you.  It is just that my cousin was right when she informed me that you are uncommonly forthright in your manner.  Tis indeed a refreshing change.  Especially for my cousin.  All the bowing and scraping.  You can imagine, huh", and he nodded wide eyed and beaming a smile at Zayl.  He clapped his large hand onto Zayl's shoulder - a friendly, open gesture and placed a small dish of honeyed pastries in front of him.  "You should try these Master Zayl, your mouth will love you forever.  A traditional delicacy of my people.  We only serve them to those we call 'friend'.  They say that these are made by the most beautiful of Drakk maidens, who place a kiss on each one to grant a blessing on those who eat it".

Rhaljakk eased himself into the cushions before continuing.  "I am honored to accompany you, Master Zayl and your friend Ranila on what appears to be such an historic adventure.  My cousin may have embellished my qualifications in your particular field of archaeology, but my experience as a soldier is no mere mirage.  I can assure you I will not hamper your work or research.  My cousin is very interested in your venture, however she is also concerned for your well-being.  These lands are dangerous, as you have already discovered and it would be foolhardy in the extreme to continue on without some form of guard".  And holding his glass up towards Zayl, "let us toast, friend Zayl, to your successful venture in our lands".

A wry smile crossed Aura's face as she listened in on Zayl and Rhaljakk's conversation.  And glancing around the table, she leaned forward towards Karev and Ilena, hoping to coax them into conversation.  "I hope that the journey so far has not been too taxing for you.  The heat of the deserts can be very difficult for human's I understand.  Drakk's just adore temperature extremes".

Karev took a sip from his glass. "Your highness need not worry. We are adequately comfortable in these wastes. Our feet have felt these lands before." He turned to the one known as Zayl. "The blackstone fortresses you say. Why you do you assume they were built by an ancient civilization? There are many things on this world that were not originally from here but somewhere beyond."
"Sometimes, the past is buried for a reason.", there was the faint aroma of venom to be heard in the voice of Ilena as she suddenly spoke but nothing like what was to follow. She turned her head and fixated on the place where Zayl was. "We would advise your master not to dig too deep, Wraith." Her icy voice reverbed somewhere deep in the spot where Zayl was and a shiver was released from the other side that could be felt as a sudden chill in the air. Karev had jumped up to his feet and a lightblue aura, brighter than the desert sun shone around him. His open palms crackled with blue lightning as he stared right into Ilena's smaragd eyes. Eyes that burned with the flame of deep, powerful hatred. For a moment it felt like the tension would explode but then, just as quickly as it had sparked, it vanished. There was no trace of the aura surrounding Karev, only the smell of lightning left lingering in the air.
"We regret it came to this.", he noted as Ilena walked out of the tent. "We would be interested in hearing more of the demons. We have a personal interest in them."

- Not a fan of sweets, but I guess this would be rude to refuse.- He said as he ate it. Indeed the taste was heavenly, if heaven was a place which actually existed.
- You are very quick to consider someone a friend Captain. But I supposed it's for the best. Your protection is appreciated, I have no interest in facing a rampaging horde of greenskins in their full strenght. very nasty business, and it drains your energy.
Zayl drank his drink, while Ranila was quite busy stuffing her face with various desserts served on the plate.
- We have not grown weary of the heat. For me temperature is no problem anymore. perhaps later I will tell you of what happened to me so we became the way we are today.
Zayl drank again. After tea, there was a scantly sweet red wine served, one of the most renowned Drakk brewer's creations.
Zaylwas adressed by a man, a sellsword by the looks of it.
- everything like those monoliths are built by someone, in someplace and somewhere. why they popped out here is another mystery. But I'll stick to my theory that they were built by one of the earliest, or in fact the very first civilisation- Zayl ignored the womans fit and naming him a "wraith".- As for the demons... The corpses they were bound to were fresh, and the bounding itself as well. the demons that attacked us didn't had the time to morph into more hideous creatures. I don't have the slightest idea who sent them or why

Karev seated himself again: "As you no doubt know the demons are not originally from our realm. They're dissimilar to the lighun who come from a different plane in the way that they need bind on this side to exist. Binding them to the dead takes menial effort. Live bindings are considerably more difficult and expensive." He leans in a little and narrows his eyes.
"But do you know what happens if you go beyond that? If you have the time, skill and resources to bind them directly, not to flesh, but to the soul?" Taking a drink from his glass he pauses for a moment.
"The result is a fusion that is free to traverse between the realms but unable to tread in them. A lifeless immortal. A Wraith. Such beings were used in the very pinnacle of soulforged craftmanship by the ancient smiths during the age of oblivion. Once contracted they would slowly meld to the body and soul of the host. The end result would depend on the relative power between the souls joined." A coin appears in Karev's hand.
"So tell me, which side of the coin do you lean on?" He asks spinning it on his middle finger.

Anyway, I looked up to the sky and saw the sun setting down.
"Welp, I say that we sit over by the fountain and wait for Khaos to come now. Nothing else comes to my mind..."

- Neither. We were never been able to traverse dimensions, neither on our free will or not. Demons are untrustworthy. many great wizards that trifled with them had perished at the hands of their own demonic thralls. most of them are like young, headstrong bulls. no matter the restraints, they will find a way to break away from the control.
Zayl finished his wine. a cup-bearer of the princess quickly refilled the goblet.
- I even had to slay my former mentor and banish his two minions whom he bound to his will.- He nodded to the servant and took a sip from his goblet- I realised what he was up to when he sent us on that quest. Sometimes we still hear the whispers of that dreadful tome. With it we did like any reasonable man would do to such an abominaton. We put the last remaining copy of the Infernomicon to the torch. We swear to the gods themselves the wretched tome screamed in a man's voice full of agony as it burned. No demonspawn would do that, we assure you. Zayl is a being which two souls share a symbiotic relationship which benefits each other, not where one overpowers the other as is with demonic fusions.

Bria nodded thoughtlessly, the effect of wine still hampering her good thinking. Although it was just slight, she has been likely giving into it, considering it as pleasure.

When they reached the fountain she managed again another loud burp the moment she sat at the stone bench that adorned and enclosed the fountain. The wind blew and struck her cheeks with its cool and refreshing breeze while the crimson light from the setting sun caught her attention and made her observe it with half-opened eyes. For a moment, the pirate felt peace like her problems did not exist at all.  Sadness and fear had stopped disturbing her heart and she began to unwind.  She smiled for a bit as she admired the view in front of her then she turned to the boy and said, “Is the sun on Earth as beautiful as the sun here?”

I got up and stretched.
"Let's go, then."

Aura had sat spellbound with excitement during the altercation between Ilena, Zayl and Karev.  She had given the subtle 'stand down' signal to her concerned guard, as they primed themselves for action.  No, Aura had wanted to see where this dispute was likely to go.  She had sensed the bristling tension between them before, and Ilena calling Zayl a Wraith had not been lost on anyone present.  And the slight aroma of a spent electrical charge, still hung in the air.

"I trust my guests will not insult the hospitality they have so far enjoyed", Aura spoke imperiously.  And with a dismissing action, indicated to the servants to leave the tent.

Aura was now standing and turning her back on her guests, walked slowly towards a raised dais, turned and sat down.  "I would advise your friend Ilena to rejoin us Karev.  It appears that my guests have a lot to discuss with each other and to keep things mutually comfortable for us all, I suggest any differences be hashed out here and now".

She left a moments silence before continuing, "And it would be mutually beneficial to all here that I not become concerned for my own well-being.  You understand".

We were headed for some hills which could be seen from the fountain. They looked pretty much blank at first, but as we got closer many ancient looking structures appeared, scattered all around them.

We soon reached a large, ornamented cave opening. Khaos told us to wait outside, and entered the cave.

"Well, he's gone again", I said, "Do you think this is the place?"

Bria keenly eyed Khaos as the darkness of the cave consumed him.  Her arms were crossed before her chest, her fingers thrumming on one of her biceps. Her face looked serious as though she was thinking deeply.

The lack of difficulty on their way to the cave surprised her, not really what she had expected, but also bored her. Although when they began travelling, she experienced a peculiar feeling. A feeling in which her instinct told her that they, or rather just her, was being watched. From time to time, she would feel a slight tingle through her spine or a sudden stiffness of her limbs that signaled her they were not alone. She tried to catch her assumed ‘hidden observer’ with utmost subtlety so that Khaos and the boy would not ever know but to her dismay she had found nobody. The pirate began to think if she has been just imagining things but she cannot easily dismiss the fact that her instincts had never ever failed her. She wondered if it has something to do with her quest. Bria knew she has been taking too much time in that one.

As she stood before the cave, waiting… waiting again, Bria could do nothing to impede her draining patience. Her blood began to boil, teeth gritted and fists clenched. The fiend had left them to stand their ground but she was already very eager to see the portal – the first clue that she could have or it might rather hold the whole of her quest. Apparently, Bria knew she had to obey Khaos’ order.  The fiend’s threat from before had been clear to her and mostly holding her like a shackle on her hands and feet which she loathed so much deep inside her heart.

A faint quacking sound from her side disturbed her furious thoughts. She alerted herself then doubted if a duck could go missing in this kind of place. When she turned to it, to her surprise, it wasn’t what she was expecting. It was her kid companion who just spoke. For a moment she realized that her extreme resentment had made her senses deficient.  She inhaled deeply and tried to calm herself.  “This must be the place,” she said, though anger could still be noticed in her tone. “The portal must be beyond that cave.”

“That fiend didn’t give us enough knowledge. He just comes and goes as he pleases,” Bria spat as she continued to observe the opening of the cave.

The pirate froze for a moment. Her eyes went from side to side. She didn’t know what the name of Harklen’s moon was. Bria hated herself for forgetting or most likely for not reading her notes before she put herself in the quest. But what she surely knows was she must not let the others notice that she lack knowledge about the place so she must find a way to cover her it. She turned to Alexander and said, “Look boy, nobody here cares about the name of the moon,” and then her eyes glinted as a wonderful diversion came to her mind. “And looks like that fiend won’t be coming back sooner. We need to set up a camp here before the night arrives.”

She looked around to check at the surroundings, “I will gather some twigs for the fire. You stay there and prepare the bedrolls.”
