Yeah, I understand that XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, but nonsteam Heroes III work perfectly on it, so why can't this version too?

Might be Ubisoft's magic touch: we are witnessing the transubstantiation of Heroes III. Perrhaps now is so awesomely exceptionally marvelously outstandingly blissfully HD (just look at their comparison pictures, see to believe) that WinXP just can't bear it. Something like M&M X, which couldn't work properly on 32bit just because.

About XP, yeah the original game worked on XP, but you cannot expect any developer to ensure compatibility with OS version that is no longer supported.

Another reason to just use standard H3 with HD mod

And here again is our broadcast "Various critics of RoE HD from various forums". Don't switch the channel.

Here we can see an Archmage's portrait where the Archmage is upscaled, but the background isn't. I wonder what stopped them from using the original townscreen (heck, they even didn't need to draw anything!) and forced to enlarge the background with a so_much blur.

Thane also looked better before. It's kinda the same case as with the Titan's sword where they overdid the effect. His glowing eyes was more subtle before, but it seems that these artists feel that stronger effects = always better.

If any of the game designers are reading this: sorry guys,  but this is simply lame.

I'm sad to say this, but unless they start working better than this, I think more people than me will get the feeling that Ubi is just doing what NWC did in their final years –  milking money out of the most loyal fans by selling things that offered little more than more eye candy. We all know how that went in the end. Sadly, I'm not surprised to see this coming after their commercial failure with Heroes VI.

I'd love to get a proper game in 3D with improved graphics done by professionals, at least with Conflux and the memorable AB campaigns. I don't really mind leaving SoD behind - most of those artifacts were simply too imbalanced. What are the chances of Ubi later releasing a AB dlc for this?

It was not NWC selling numerous Heroes Chronicles. It was 3DO, the publisher. The 00's were a pretty bad time for publishers. So many cool games left underrated.

It seems like you guys are really hating on 3DO for making a HD version of Heroes 3, but see it like this: they're atleast making a HD version of Heroes 3. You dont have to buy it, but if you want Heroes 3 with HD graphics you have the option to buy it. You dont have to.
Personally I'm really excited about this, its gonna be really nice to see HoMM3 in HD.

How many times have I said "HD" and "Heroes" in this post? Damn.

I'm pretty annoyed because a bad HD remake means there likely will not be a good one, which I would love to see...

Ok. It isn't 3DO that has made the HD edition, it's UBI and DotEmu that has made this. So it's hating against those.

We hate Ubisoft for screwing the series giving the development of both the sequels and RoE HD to nonamed outsourcing companies without any successful games in their portfolio. And we see the sad results.

Wake up, dude. 3DO doesn't exist since 2003.
