Let's see.
At first I was hoping for Oasis to become HoTa town, but they don't seem interested. I am still dreaming of making it stand alone addon, so let's hope that one day Hota's secret of adding town to classic game would be revealed.

As for goodies: Not only we are planning to make full developed town, but also new spells, artifacts, objects.. etc. Of course for now we are focused on Oasis, and we will see later if we have resources and possibilites to continue

Now getting to possible option for Oasis:

Town is for VCMI, but we all now that it is yet to gain full funcionality, I don't mind to do it also for Era if anyone would be interested.

As for possible help
We still don't have person responsible for balance aspects, and by saying so I mean all statistics of creatures, town development and finally overall balance of the town. It is what we need the most, but other help would be appreciated as well. For example we could use some help from 3D artists. I may be doing majority of it, but this work like never ends. It will speed up development for sure. Anyway if some of you guys are reading it and can help with something, send me PM

Btw. Thanks to Witchking, wands with spells are working now

That's a damn shame, they don't know what they are missing. Since they ditched Forge they could add a new town lately.

Everything looks wonderful (I felt kinda nostalgic when I saw the wasps, MM8 is one of my favorite games since it was my first RPG). But the name of the pre-Lamassu seems kinda mundane, how about naming it Shedu? It's a lesser version/another name of the lamassu.

Yeah they are missing 6 years of hard work because this is what took them to make HoTA. People, stop thinking adding a town is now just a matter of days because HoTA did it once, so now all they have is redo same process.

Even if they know how to do it, it will still take years so one can understand they prefer to work on their own projects.

There are a lot of examples that town can be made in less than several months. There are several examples of people who make new units in 3D for HMM3 with speed of light.
The only thing that prevents HOTA from adding new towns is laziness, I think. They made one town in SICK! 6 years, and now they prefer to rest on laurels and make laughs on other modders works.

Calm down, by saying that I meant that HotA team could've accepted his work no matter how long it would take to implement it. Or at least he could've joined the team since they are asking for people to join them.

Come on guys, that little mention about Hota was just on a side note. I was daydreaming and that's all. It is the only fan made addon which I liked so far and I hope it will continue to develop, even if lately it is all about new decorations. I was trying to push Oasis, it wasn't good enough, well it is okay. After all if they won't have high standards it won't be so successful.

Ok, with this said let's get back to Oasis. Today I bring you some early animation of Sand Ghost. He is going to cast quick sand as a speciall ability. It is designed to have some nice synergies with flying/shooting unit of 5 lvl

a ghost is something that isn't solid. being that that creature is made out of sand, why not a sand/quicksand golem? or some other creature that isn't solid.

i have a question, too: why the needle-points for hands? it would make more sense to have the creature attack using sand-hands(that could be shaped into weapons, like a wrecking ball or hammer or something). and why no head? is it an animation issue?

feel free to disregard my advice/questions; i felt compelled to bring them up.

By seeing your works, your 3D skills are on the level of Alex-ander (what happened to him anyway, he just disappeared)

Also, can't wait to see the Serpentmen (if they are still 3rd unit) and the Scorpions (if they are 7th unit).

Ghost of sand kinda metaphoric name for genie of plan earth, it is not literal. I have an idea for them to be "heart of a desert" and that they've ruled those for long time. Upgraded unit is called Dao, which is jinn of plane earth, but if you still think that it is unclear and I overthink that, we may reconsider naming.

Those two creatures, ghost of sand and faqir are also connected in theme, you can call oasis mage as a jinn hunter. I hope that planned scenario would cover that

It's based on old concept for Palace town made by Agar (http://heroes3towns.com/towns/palace/concept_004.jpg) and I though it looks cool and should be visualized, so it is why it looks that way

Every opinion for me is valuable, Oasis started on Acid Cave in that way and I really appreciate every comments

Also.. It is nice that you come here, because I was planning to ask you whether would you allow us to use some of your cool map objects. Of course it will be included that you are author, and if you have some additional desert objects we haven't seen so far I will gladly see them

As for naming also: @Darius Agent
I like your idea, we will discuss about it as well, though I am not sure if using less popular name of the same thing is good way.

We already have Golems and Elementals which are solid, attack with hands and have head. Now this Sand Ghost is original concept by Agar.



Besides, Sand Ghost was made by Witchking long time before Oasis even started.

I don't know if we understood each other, I meant the name for the 7th level first unit Shedu instead of Statue. 7th level upgraded unit's name should stay as Lamassu.

As for the Sand Ghost, Dao is a perfect name for it's upgrade.

So I did a little research and apparently Shedu is a synonimical name, but it is more about human part of lamassu. I understood what you mean, and still I think that better name for it is statue.

thanks for replying and explaining things for me. the graphics are top-notch. i would definitely say you have skill when it comes to 3d creation/manipulation.

i have some desert stuff coming up in my patch, but most of it will be focused on beach sand, rather than desert sand. i'm working on fixing/replacing/adding shark jaws at the moment. i'm steering away from the boiled-whitish look, and more toward a natural look/more aged.

Indeed, Shedu is too close to Lamassu in etymology to be a name for another version of the unit. How about Lamassu / Greater Lamassu?

About artifacts - perfect!
About recent animations of units You presented - totally perfect! You truly have a talent on 3D animation, mate! To be honest, I was satisfied mostly to see animation of Ugallu's walking. They somehow reminded me a sketch of panther (possible creature) (wild cat, but not close to Ugallu though ); it's an old post wrote by KittenAngel and the image is not working, although years ago I wished to see fully animated cat-like creature to become real and which would looked professionally (KittenAngel's concept was cute, but was not as good as your creatures; it was made in 2D technique as far as I remember). Your Ugallu, sir, looks better than I could expect it would look like back then. Awesome work.

"Greater Lamassu" is on the other hand too long name, it will not be visible in fort

thanks. i haven't worked on waterfalls yet, but i have a bunch of cool ideas on how they could be used. it's all in my ever-growing list of plans.

as far as using anything of mine in any of your projects, feel free. you could mix and match anything you want, even make new stuff from what i've made. that's the point of sharing resources with others, anyway. the more stuff that's on the table, the more stuff can be made, and used. i would only ask that you make a note somewhere of where you got those graphics. simple reason being, much of my stuff takes a good deal of work to make; and for those objects, i would like credit placed where it is due. call it vanity or whatever.

lol, when it comes time to post my update, my list of people to thank will be something like: "HotA team, WoG team, HC members, various Heroes and other gaming websites, google, etc, etc." (on to infinity).

The unit animations indeed look absolutely great, also the Sand Ghost!
Like Haregar, I especially appreciate the cat-like movement

I just hope there will be a game version one day which allows to play Oasis and Cove together on the same map. These two are the best fan-made towns so far, IMO (although Oasis is obviously not finished and especially needs good balancing yet).

In this respect, I like the look and idea of the Fire and Ice Wands, but those items will also strenghen might heroes even more and they are already overpowered... so I guess we rather need some artifacts which will help magic heroes to compensate their weaknesses, e.g. "Halves enemy's attack/defense skill" or items which give the properties of the secondary skills Archery / Offence / Armourer / Tactics (at the moment those skills have high opportunity costs, because their effects cannot be gained by other means, in stark contrast to skills like e.g. luck, resistance, mysticism). You could give the Armorer property to the Mamluk shield and the Golem property to the Mamluk helmet for example. A sabre with the Offence property or a Mamluk bow with Archery property would be nice additions. Tactics ability could be given by a chessboard (misc. artefact).

Very nice! I was already pondering what function this unit might have. Now I understand better. Now also Faqir makes more sense.
If you want to emphasize terrain / obstacle focus further, Oasis could have higher chances to get Quicksand, Force Field, Fire Wall and Land Mine in Mage Guild (and Slow!). These spells are also earth/fire spells on which you wanted to focus anyway. And I guess to effectively run a strategy of flying behind obstacles with Faqirs, shooting, flying again and so on, Sand Ghost's ability alone might not be enough, although this also depends on their Quicksand spell level, on how often they can cast it in battle and of course on the number of Sand Ghost stacks.

As always, these are only my own, subjective thoughts, so feel free to use or ignore them whatever you like

Waterfalls are difficult to make (well, for me) Water flow must be right, there should be splashes and reflections in the water. Since you are using mainly 2D (am I right?) it can be troublesome, but eventually you will work that out

Keep up good work, I am looking forward for your new beach patch, there should be more objects interesting for me, even if beach=/=desert as you stated earlier

Well, let's hope VCMI would be more playable until I finish my town. I don't see other options for them to be played together than that platform (which honestly, I must say, I don't like really, but well- for now I don't have other options). Anyway thanks for you kind words and interest in that thread

You may be right in Wands-connected issue. I hope I will find person playing in tournaments, in other words - good in mechanics to show us right way to balance town. As for artifacts giving secondary skills, that might be a good way to compensate and we will think about it.

I ask with your choice of spells for Oasis, as propability of getting spells are raw numbers in VCMI and easy to make. Those spells emphasize obstacle strategy for sure.

You have good eye, so if you would like to suggest something connected to skills of hero I would like to hear your opinion on that.
Sand won't be a main terrain for Oasis for many reasons, but as it may be considered as a sand town (and should be) there is a need to overcome that problem, so I was thinking of higher chance for:
Pathfinding- no movement penalties can be handy
Scouting- yes, pretty useless, but they should know their deserts
Logistics - obvious one
Diplomacy- town is focused on slavery, and it may sound strange, but to have important captive is to have better negotiation
Tactics- yep
Fire/Earth magic- it is obvious

As for small chance- secondary skills I would choose
Water magic and Navigation. They should be rather bad on a sea.
And of course Necromancy- you know why
