The scorpion looks awesome, hat off But what abilities will it have? Since lvl 7 is support, the scorpion should be quite bulky, maybe its role could be to soak damage and get paralyzing venom to further fulfill the role. I guess the lvl 5 will have low hp and high attack, due to him being both shooter and flyer, you could give it fireball attack like magog's

It was mentioned on HC that scorpions were in beta version of H3. Does anybody know in which town? what were line-ups in towns?

On left beholders dwelling, then medusa's and then some den. Maybe it?
And later scorpions were exchanged to manticores.

Yup, that's the point my proposition was motivated. General "policy" of upgrade creatures in HoMM3 is that they are not drastical when compared to non-upgraded ones (except fire elemental and its upgrade, mentioned in your post).

Good to hear also about preliminary idea of scorpion's upgrade.

Where is the red version of it ? Most of the shown units use red as upgraded color theme. (at least thats what I thought)

By the way is there any difference between the two last green versions ? Cant see one.

Agreed; I'd like to see the red version of upgraded unit as well.

Well as a male I can say that the difference can be noticed by men. First "green" unit has "mid-dark green" colours, while green colours of the second one are brighter.

The reason why Warmonger posted this colorfull fashionweek is because there is a lot of work on adapting creatures to fit with eachother thematically and aesthetically. Final work will be done when every unit is ready, but meantime I will be improving what is present so far.

For example this Sand Ghost:


don't have final pose or textures yet, but I consider it to be one of the best creature for Oasis.

It's interesting to see this project evolving! IMHO, scorpion looks fine (you don't want to meet that ... thing in the dark!) and wasp is a good idea. Wasp could perhaps even be lvl 1 unit, then you could alternatively use the lion assassin instead of the cats for lvl 2 or 3 unit.

For balancing, it would be essential to know which units are shooting and flying and which other functions they have (offensive, defensive, casting, ...). Is snakeman still a short-range shooter as originally intended? I liked that idea a lot (because of possible strategies). Then there would be 1.5 shooters, we could say, and the first real shooter (Caliph) comes in quite late (lvl 5). Among the existing factions, this is only the case for Necropolis. So there has to be an advantage until you get those shooters. Necro has Necromancy to compensate losses and many flying units (lvl 3, 4 and 7). So I think the last missing unit should be flying. Is Sand Ghost teleporting? Then there would be 3 flying units (not including Caliph which is shooting anyway), which is higher than average and will compensate for having the shooter so late. Or there are not many requirements for lvl 5 building, so you can get them earlier (e.g. like Rocs).
I would also welcome a slow unit (upgraded: 5 speed). I feel there is a tendency to create only faster units for custom factions, because we all do not like having a 3 or 4 speed unit in the army, right? But all SoD factions have at least one slow unit. For Oasis, snakeman could perhaps fit that role (although this will make it difficult for him to shoot at anyone, because he has to outwait the attackers to be able to shoot at all).
Concerning scorpions, I agree with LizardWarrior that they should have many hitpoints and/or high defense (fits nicely to the carapace) because lvl 5 and 7 will have less HP than average.
Any plans already for cat or sand ghost specialties?

That wasp is utterly beautifuly done in my opinion. As I love M&M series I always dreamt to have creatures from there. The spirit dragon (?) from the snake islands crypt (cant remember the exact names tho)

I salute you sir, but I am still wondering, are you working alone ? Or at least for those models and animations? It really bothers my mind since this thread started you made tons of material already.

This town, the 3rd upgrades and I dont even know what else are you working on.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Lion assasin which I presented some time ago won't return in any form. There are gonna be some lion heroes though

I am aware of balancing problems with getting shooter so late. While Necropolis had a racial ability to compensate, there are other plans for Oasis to deal with that.

Basically there will be more units with fly ability as you mentioned. Currently it looks that way:
2. Wasp- flying
3. Snakeman- I still don't know whether short range ability is possible to do under VCMI, other option would be small amount of shoots. While first option is more interesting I will be still going for like "0,5" shooting unit on 3 lvl.
4. Sand ghost is teleporting
5. Caliph is flying and shooting
7. Flying

So it looks like 4 flying units and 1,5 shooting as a whole line up. For now it may seems overpovered, but we will see how balancing is going. Alternative option would be some changes in creature level between 2-3 or 4-5, I will be testing it later in time.

As for unit with low speed, there would be one for sure, whether tanky scorpio or snakeman.

I am still learning what can I do with VCMI, so I will wait a little more before presenting some certain options

I am happy you like wasp as well. There are going to be more creatures taken from M&M, but that flying dude have the best resemblance to it's original for now. (Wait for snakeman)

Actually Oasis town started in July 2014. It took me about halv year to learn some 3D, and show first version of screen:

Since then I am polishing it to final state, and I hope it will be playable one day. Until recently I was alone with town-making endeavour, but now I finally got some people to help. While still I will be main 3D artists, the town is more than graphics.

Btw. the project I am helping with is alternative units, not 3rd upgrades

Those are Couatls, winged snakes. They might be a good addition to this town.

Also, I love the wasp even though they were found in a forest in M&M. Still, your works are amazing as usual and I hope this project will see the light of day.

That wasp looks impressive. It would be great to have it as tier 2 unit in the Oasis town. Don't worry about the balance of Wasps or the rest of creatures. It can be tested after polishing Oasis from the graphic side.

The thing that somehow worries me is an unit called "Caliph". Is it possible to post an image of it, or concept? We know for now that it's going to fly and shoot. Honestly I don't like the idea for several reasons:
- I would make it a shooting unit without the ability to fly
- change the name into something better, like "Faris"; they were Arabic professional cavalry. Also, I wouldn't be positive about seeing an unit called "Caliph" because it is reserver for successors of prophet Muhammad (according to real word) and there is no Islam religion in Heroes of Might and Magic 3. What's more, there were not a lot of Caliphs at the same time, so having an army made of them would look irrational.

About the name, more or less similar problem occured years ago. It was solved by changing the name of "Antichrist" (for Inferno's 8th lvl creature) to "Hell Baron". Reason was simple: in HoMM3 world there is no Christianity, so there can't be something called "Antichrist" when there was no Christ.

Well, that's my oppinion anyway. If I were to add something then I would say that Sand Ghosts look really good!

I think there is enough room to improvise within the existing features. We have the Graal, which is tied since 13th century to Christ, we have the pendant of life which is a cross, we have archangels coming from Abraham religion, we have zealots, demons, devils, an Inferno race, we have holy ground, we have Armageddon blade...

See, HoMM isn't black and white except when people want to see it that way.

So the unit called "Caliph" may have different name. Everything connected to names, special abilities and so on are temporary and will be decided while balancing phase.

Image of desert mage is earlier in this thread, colors still changing though.

@Culgil
As for alternative units there are some works posted in VCMI thread. Neither aternatives nor Oasis is under HoTa work. Originally alternative units was idea of HoTa, but it was abandoned (Satyr is neutral, while originally it was intended for Bastion). Anyway better ask them personally, as I didn't work with them for long, and I was never part of a crew.

Btw. Here is a sneak peak of bedouin (might) class. Magic class is Dervish, and will be presented later.

The hero looks gorgeous Can I suggest using black color for horse, since most heroes already got brown horses and it would add variety. But that's not very important, the hero looks awesome as it is
