Maybe Shadya was also Biara's previous identity, who knows?

I have another question already, though - what was Slava's love life exactly? He's said to have been in love with Elisabeth, but the Empire intervened and arranged his marriage with Cate... but other sources state it was Slava who intervened, defying Gerhart's claim for Cate's hand. How did it go exactly?

Angels
Slava indeed loved Elisabeth but was forced by Emperor Liam (who IIRC was adviced by Uriel or Michael) to abandon his love and marry Cate.

Slava bio said:
Raised by his Aunt, the Necromancer Sveltana, after the death of his father when he was only a boy, Slava nonetheless managed to grow up a rash but good-natured young man.
Taking up the title of Duke of Griffin when he came of age, Slava now leads a strong House, and has five healthy, determined children who he is certain will do the Griffin name proud.
The fact that the eldest one is a snow borne by his first true love, Elisabeth - a woman the Emperor Liam forbid he marry - has pained him greatly.
Wars and enmities have taken their toll on him and his legitimate wife, Cate, and he prays to Elrath, the Dragon of Light, that the politicking that is beyond his control will not consume his family.

Elisabeth bio said:
Born to a lesser baron in the Greyhound Duchy, Elisabeth would've grown an unremarkable player in the affairs of Ashan were it not for a chance encounter with the young Duke of Griffin.
Slava fell in love with the fiery beauty at first sight during a formal reception at Falcon's Reach. The feeling was mutual, and the pair would have wed were it not for the intervention of the Holy Emperor himself.
Slava was forced to marry Cate, a daughter of the Stag Duchy, and Elisabeth was discarded like stale bread - except Slava couldn't keep away.
A snow child, Sandor, was the result. Discreetly housed near Eastalon, the ducal house of Griffin, Elisabeth raised her son a warrior.
Bitter at her fate that she believes was stolen by Cate, Elisabeth keeps her resentment simmering, silent and reserved, except when she has the chance to goad.

EDIT:
Sandor is 23 years old in H6 while the oldest of Cate's children - Anton - 21 years old.
Slava met Cate during War of Bitter Ashes (one year before Sandor's birth) but I think it was after Liam forbidden him to marry Elisabeth.

Out of curiosity, do we know something more about Zoltan, one of Heroes V characters? He was Belketh's right hand during the War of the Broken Staff, but besides that and his views on the mages from Silver Cities, is there anything more about him?

It kinda just recently struck me, while reading Heroes V specialties. Zoltan's one sounded strangely affiliated with the Void - I mean, erasing knowledge of a spell from caster's mind? That's exactly how his ability is described...

Could he secretly be one of Sandro's followers? Could he have reached for Void's powers, while thinking on the ways to have his vengeance against the wizards of the Silver Cities? Alternetively, he could simply view the Void as an useful weapon, while continuing to serve the Spider Cult, being one of the rarest examples?

It could also be just a coincidence, but that's the most boring one, and I like coming up with random subjects.

I feel like the elves use the "immortality begins at twenty" trope. Anwen in Clash of Heroes is young enough for Godric's father to remember her as an infant, and even comment on how quickly she grew up (lol), while Findan also seems to be only a little bit older - and both are young adults 40 years later. Meanwhile, Raelag is a young-looking 400 years old stalker.

On a side note, how did Ivan manage to brainwash everyone into this "Griffin eternal" attitude? I mean, citizens in Heroes V and Clash of Heroes are even more dedicated to Griffins than their ancestors were to Falcons during the Second Eclipse, lol. Considering that Griffins only ruled like 100 years, it's really, really weird.

Because griffins are awesome.

Seriously though, I do not believe the bulk of Heroes 5 is canon.

Events of it are canon though - nobles still wanted to strictly follow the Griffin line and Isabel's supporters wanted to follow a Griffin's word.

Everything in Clash of Heroes also screems of the Griffin Empire - I actually like CoH's portrayal of both Haven and Inferno the most in the franchise, but it doesn't mean I don't find it a bit weird.

Well, CoH is at least justified by the fact that its Haven segment takes place in Talonguard, I suppose. My headcanon for the rest of it is that there were many war heroes in the Griffin line, which influenced citizens' morale and loyalty.

Actually, it's just Godric who is a "paragon knight" with Griffin eternal and whatsoever (btw, that phrase was in H6 too) and Isabel, who loves a Griffin. Others were pretty much the same - rebellions here and there, even at the time of the Eclipse (Ashwood), court intrigues etc.
Nobles supported Andrei not because they were obsessed with Griffins, but because he simply had the right for throne, while Isabel had... none. Plus, she just doesn't know how to rule an Empire.

In the rather hectic times the game takes place in it is natural for the people to look for guidance in the current ruling family. Plus it is not like they just took charge it had been around one-hundred years at least one generations worth.

I blame her parents. And Beatrice. Isabel was supposed to be raised as a future duchess, goddammit!

Who was even in charge of the Greyhound Duchy during the Sixth Eclipse?

Surprise-surprise, she was Greyhound Duchess actually. Yes, when she was going to marry Nicolai.
AFAIK, you can't blame her parents, Isabel was an orphan.

You cannot really be an orphan if you are a member of a noble house.

By "orphan" I mean that she lost her parents at a childhood. Considering that she was raised in the Abbey of Beatrice, I wouldn't be suprised if she was Isabel's blood relative.

Sandro, that's exactly what I meant actually - she should've been taught everything she needed to govern a duchy - and as such, she should be able to use this knowledge when Nicolai left her in the charge of the Empire.

Actually, Nicolai wasn't a very wise Emperor. Brave knight-in-shining-armor, he was clearly set up as way too naive to be your classical hero. It's actually quite an unusual play on this kind of a character, which makes one realize that this game had so much poorly executed potential...

Isabel was an orphan though? She was said to be an only child, raised in an abbey, but was it stated that her parents died?

Well, you also asked "who was in charge of the duchy" - I answered, it was Isabel herself.
Yes, I agree with you that she should know how to rule her Duchy. Turns out that either ruling the Empire was too hard for her or she's stupid. Guess which theory I like more? ^_^
Nicolai was actually an idiot for leaving the Empire to Isabel.

IIRC it was said in H5's tavern gossips (damn my memory) but I can't confirm they're still canon.
But thinking about it, if she was a Duchess already, this means that at least her father was dead. Isabel being an orphan (or sharing story with Ivan, one parent died, another retired to a monastery 'cos of grief) makes sense actually.

Huh... Strange. I know she was an only child of Greyhound Duchy's ruling family, but if she was its only living member, wouldn't duty call her back to her duchy?

Actually, her own campaign is set in Greyhoud Duchy itself. Only after Nicolai's death she moves to other parts of the Empire (she met Markal in the Wolf Duchy btw).
And I didn't said that she was the only living Greyhound at the time. She might have had cousin/uncly/aunt etc.

It... probably should be, but the map from Heroes 7's blog places it in the Unicorn Duchy...
