This kind of 'mint in box'-hype is real when it comes to, say, action figures or other kinds of franchise.

It's real alright. In games aswell. Unopened original box of Doom on floppies is quite valuable. Even opened ones can fetch quite hefty price on e-bay. And that's not even CE! I set this example cause I have it ... or rather had it - lost 2 of the disks ... so it's worthless now But I remember I traded original Super Castlevania 4 for modern game with my friend a while ago - he gave me pay-safe card with 50$ to buy from Steam (It's worthless to me, since I don't have SNES anymore - and didn't have box, so price was fair).

I immagine now, that we get these CE's and limited editions of games, they will prove to be great collectibles in the future. But even if you open it, it is wise to be carefull not to lose/damage any contents + box atleast ... one must preserve this things, or they will end like me with broken and lost floppies and cartridges all over the place

"Man, how could they play these games back then? It's on some archaic form of media storage. It's even less than 10 Gbyte, so that's actually tiny and would download in less than a second. And you have to be kidding me, you need a monitor for this? Can't I play it on my holo-table?"

There will be DOSBOX with holo-table support, mark my words But this got me thinking ... what if UBIsoft won't exist in the future. and their online service will die, mening you couldn't install games anymore. I'm sure there will be work-arounds / updates, so that we won't loose our games, when that happens ... but still. It is a concern. Also ... all downloadable purchases will have no collector's value.

Well ... that's the main concern about services like Steam and UPlay. Will they be available in 5 years? 10? 50?

Steam I imagine will be around for awhile; Uplay though, to be quite honest I do not remember the last time I heard someone say anything particularly positive about it.

Can anybody confirm whether my graphics card will be good enough to run the beta? I have a GeForce GTX 650 which beats the 460 in some areas, but it loses in others. My CPU and RAM are fine. I know I'll be able run the actual game (that is, if they keep their promise and lower the system requirements), but I don't know about the beta, and this may decide whether I'm going to pre-order or not. I want to pre-order, but I'll only do it if I can run the beta.

Kronos - I think you should be fiiiii.... oh you have Nvidia card

Hehe ... not just messing. I think you should be fine. 650 is about equal or better than 460. Just overclock that beast and you're good to go. You might even be able to meet recomended requierments .... depending on other parts of your machine.

EDIT: Don't take my word as a sacred tho. This IS beta by UBI we're talking about afterall... And with UBI, you never know if you don't try it. I would recon, if GFX will be too weak for beta, you might decide to upgrade before playing full released version ... and use beta to kind of gauge, if it'll work. I wouldn't hold my breath for UBI's promises of optimization - CA promised that with TW: Rome II, and it failed at release. And i trust UBI substantialy less than I do CA

My old rig has a gtx260 and heroes 6 doesn't even uses it on 100%. (not even the 896mb video ram it has) But my old core2duo e8500 works on full load, so I think heroes is more a cpu heavy game rather than gpu. I would say you will be fine.

I don't know if there is a big difference, but my video card is GTX260M, it's on my laptop, which also has Core2Quad Q9000 @ 2GHz and 4GB of RAM.
H6 was OK, but I am not sure if I will be able to run H7. Can you guys help me out, as I really want to pre-order, but I'm not sure if I can run the game on this laptop.
Thanks...

Well, I heard many discussions about Ubi, and about Heroes 7.
The game seems nice, but somethings really gone crazy. Some creatures dissappeared, some appeared, noone is happy, witch at least one detail. What are we about to do ?
Why not adding all the creatures wanted, and all the castles wanted ?
I hope this to appear in Homm8.
But now, the only thing I see, is that if people pre-order Homm7, they will only gain 4 unique portraits, and 4 unique artifacts, but they will be very angry because of the things that we/they want to see, like more creatures, fixed lore, core, and other. Indeed, if you pre-order it, you may gain an uncomplete game, witch the fans will come to hate, and if you buy it later, maybe there will be released some fixes, more creatures, MORE FIXES, witch will indeed make it worth playing. I simply will not expect many to pre-order it. Not yet. Or at least I...
I know I am not crazy, is anyone thinking purely ?
It is really logically that if you wait, you will gain a full, nice, completed game, instead of let's say a BETA.
Think about the money too !
If you buy it before releasing it, you will have to pay much more. For some, it would be simple, but for others fans of Homm7, it will be the Hell on Earth

Instead of fighting my opinion, think of it !
How would it be gaining some, you know... Beter graphical fixes, some more compatibilityes... Some creatures/town, maybe spells fixed...

The purpose of companies is to make money, companies make games. So, naturally a vanilla version will not include everything the game potentially could include. Its sound to keep certain features as selling points for add-ons, DLC and such. More factions, neutral creatures, heroes, more creatures for existing lineups, maps, artifacts, campaigns, RMG, faction specific perks for skills in the skillwheel etc. That is marketing. Albeit they have to include enough in the vamilla game to make it sell, or else additional content could be scrapped all together.

So pre-ordering will boost sales and increase the chance of additional content. And the more beta-testers the better, for the game itself. Thats why I am going to pre-order and contribute in my small way.

I sayd that the things gone crazy because of thoase strategyes. Ruining such a nice game...
But you pre-order it, and it is the game already. Maybe they will release patches to make it better. I already pre-order it. Ubisoft makes nice games, but don't know how to keep them nice sometimes.

Thanks...

Minimum requierments state:

cpu: Intel Core i5 660 3.3 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
GFX: NVidia GeForce GTX460 or AMD Radeon HD5850 (1024 MB VRAM)

*you can add here "or equivalent" with any line.

These requierments are unchanged regardless of you having laptop or desktop PC. I don't know much about graphics cards and procesors for laptops, because they are marked diferently. What matters is their power ... or stats ... idk how to explain. So to be sure, you would need laptop GFX card that is equivalent of GTX460 or HD5850, whatever it is called. 260M? Idk if it could be enough, I'm not expert on laptop graphics.

For all people who have laptop, ofc names of procesor, and graphics card are diferent, but the core power should be equivalent, for it to run. So. As long as laptop is powerfull enough to meet these requierments, game should run fine.

this means: Procesor with 3,2 Ghz ; 4GB RAM ; graphic card with 1024 MB of VRAM, that is on same power tier that GTX 460 or Radeon HD5850.

Now ... 3,2 GHZ cpu to me, sounds quite high requierment for a game , and if indeed it will require that much speed, then your 2GHZ is too low for it to work properly. I belive you would need an upgrade. So my adivce would be to not preorder, untill you are sure it will run well.

H6 is not great to gauge if you will be able to run H7, because requierments of H6 are severly lower. Even the recomended specs are way lower than minimum required for H7. Here they are for orientation:

CPU: Intel Core 2 @ Duo E6400 @ 2.00 GHz, AMD Athlon II X2 240 @ 2.8 GHz
RAM: 2 GB
GFX: 1 GB of VRAM, Shader 3.0, DirectX 9.0c NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX, ATI Radeon HD 3870

These are H6 RECOMENDED requierments. H6 runs on high graphic setting with these no problem. As you can see they are ridiculously lower than H7 MINIMUM requierments. Why are H7 system requierments so high? Idk. This means, even if PC is able to run H6 at maxed out settings, it might not be enough to run H7, because it would fail in one area (probably cpu)

It will be much easier to know if game will run, once it will be out.

I recomend everyone this site: HERE to know if the game will run or not. It is updated constantly, but unreleased games are not there ofc.

Voted no for a very good reason.

The price is quite high as it is that, you have to pay an extra 10$ just for a beta copy of it.

Last time I checked it out, it is only a PC game. Not a PS4 or, XBox One's very fancy type of a console game.

True. However there is a big difference in that KickStarter was born for unknown people who had to explain a new game that might be a win and become a franchise but with UBI

nevermind...HoMM times have sure changed.
