I'm going to finish my map with new creatures, but I have some problems with building lighting. I'm stuck in "running lightmass" for some reason. It work in another computer, so I will do this on someone else hardware.

Any chance we get to see your new creatures along with other experiments you might do in the Global Mod?

I mean, it would make ChrisD1 to see a nightmare unit be an alternative to Medusa and the Mount of Grim Rider with some tweaking can become just that

Also, once proper animations for Unicorn are in place, there have been many who worked on that unit, making a Dawn and Dusk version and also a basic version of it.

I do find your battle mage a good unit as well!!! I think it is closer to the mage unit intended for heroes VI and maybe it could make a good alternative to the Golem.

For anything you have in mind though, good job and i hope you keep going and impress us all (not that from what i have seen you haven't so far )

Hey, maybe anyone could give me a Hand... I did spend some time today to get into the game's Editor a Little and i wanted to hard patch Ymorils Picture with a new one, when i copy the entire heropic.upk, edit only ymoril's pricture and try to save the package the Editor crashes while he tries it... so did some Research about references but it seems These pics dont have any references or am i wrong here?

can anyone give me some advice how to hardpatch a hero potrait? please? if i would suceed here, i would like to improve some other 2d textures as well

AND

did anyone figure out how to link Portals? i'm making a map at the Moment but These dont work

I had similiar problem with textures and I was told in H7 map making threat to use umodel program to extract textures from the game, edit them and then import them into editor and it works so I recomend to use that method.

this post is a little dated but I thought someone might be interested.
while creating maps in the editor I found there are only 2 lava area combat maps, one is VERY nicely done, the other is horrible
it has screen shake and there is a wonky rock setup that causes enemy AI large units to get stuck behind these rocks so you can just shoot them to death
in the editor you can create combat maps just the same as skirmish or scenario, so I created a nice combat map with lots of detail and lava, saved and cooked it, renamed it the same as the default combat map which is something like: "CM_Lava_01.umap"  I cant remember the exact name, but its in the main game directory
"Crogram Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonMight & Magic Heroes VIIMMH7GameCookedPCMapsCombat"

then your new combat map will be used instead of that wonky shaking map

edit: I checked, the name of the map is "CM_Desert_Vulcano_01.umap"
if anyone does not feel like messing with the editor to create a new combat map, but hates that particular map and would like a replacer for it, I could add a link here to the one I did

If somebody want to do some mod, I can extract models from H6. They're only missing animations, so if you want to help with recreating them, we could add Inferno and Sanctuary to H7

Repairing the bones and animations of h6 creatures is a torment I do not wish to inflict upon myself Also not a big fan of seeing aberrations like namatru, maniac or uncle fester return

So do I But the most I'm waiting for return of Sanctuary, but maybe without that spirit crap. I don't know? Maybe with Mermaids and Kelpies (faction mount model), but what with Coral Priestess? It should be replaced with something, because it's already in Dungeon :/
BTW what happened to Kirin model?

The mesh doesn't translate well to the animation. I need to repair some bones in order to make it work well.

I think I once shared a model of the Sentinel from HVI...

It comes without saying that such a process to convert HVI units to HVII is time-consuming and mind-breaking.

And that was just correcting a unit's skeleton to make it fit to an already made animation.

I tried once to convert the pit lord, I fled, my morale was completely broken.

I can agree with this lol

Sanctuary was a cool faction, a little heavy on the whole Asian theme but it was nice addition. After the dwarves in h5 I didn't think they could make a faction I'd like.

I also miss Sanctuary really much... And I really don't believe we will ever get it officially for H7 so it is just up to your modding skills to get it back.

Btw. I really liked Mediczero's concept of Ice sanctuary. I think for example ancient behemot could be reskinned to yetti

But for these plannes problem with animation must be solved ofc. Marzhin did not contact you?

I created a goblin wolf rider unit. But the problem is, that I cannot use 2 anim sets as I can when I create a new hero. The mount of the unit should use the animset of the wolf and the goblin rider animset of a goblin.

How do I combine two models with 2 diffrent animations, so that they are usable in a new unit?

Short answer: you can't. As you can see both the hero and the mount have different meshes as well as animation sets, the creatures only got a one mesh and you can only assign 1 animation set per mesh. So you either extend the base class (which you can't since you got no access to Unreal script nor direct code) or you either merge the animation sets and meshes into a single one (which is pretty difficult).

Well if you're really willing to, you could create animation from scratch, if no workarounds are found.

Well, I don't know how to do it. But if someone would like to make a wolf rider, I can send the textures for both wolf and black wolf I managed to create by combining Wolf and Dire Wolf form HVI with the Dire Wolf from HVII.
