Boy, I can't wait to see how the Enroth Conservative Party (ECP) and the Ashan Arachnid Party (AAP) struggle would fare with this tool. Sounds like a great idea!

would it show good posts or posts people just agree with though?

what i like about the QP-system is that the posts aren't necessarily just what most people agree with, but has (usually) at least some basic quality in them which won't be guaranteed with a vote-up system.

It's actually guaranteed fairly well. When a poster can only give out, say, 4 good reps a week before you hit a cooldown timer, people usually don't waste them on some random reply that contributes little to nothing to a thread. The system isn't perfect, but it works a lot better than having a small handful of fatigue mods that don't comb through an entire section occasionally drop a golden egg (or red star, since this place is a communist underground stronghold) once every full moon.

It's also kinder on the mods because they don't have to take any smack over their decisions, and they pretty much just respond to any reports of misconduct. The community itself rates posters. This forum puts an unusual amount of weight on being a mod, which is why I don't want to even go there. I would just wait until Val vanishes for 6 months on a crusade somewhere, and then go all Sheriff of Nottingham on the community. People would be serving me unshelled acorns on golden platters, and since both paws would be holding a pina colada, Meroe would have to feed me. Corruption would be rampant. Life would be good. But then Val would return, and the fun would be over, and I'd be banned. So yeah, that's why I'm not a mod.

Pwetty plis, gimma QP!

I often read things I would like to point out as something of quality here and there. So I can suggest to mods whenever that happens?

This is not how you win a QP. This is.

I will repeat myself, if a basic user gets the privilege to vote on quality of another user's posts, even if limited at 4 votes per week, there will be people abusing this privilege via multi account. So this system would ultimately self-defeat its purpose as quality would not be accurately reflected at all.

The only solution would be to restrict such a privilege to users with a certain QP count and / or HC supporter status. If that happens, I'm wholeheartedly in favor of it.

I dont like this idea but in such a case, taking post count as a criteria (say, members below 200 posts wont be able to vote) would be a much more democratic and egalitarian solution. I hardly think, anybody will create a double account and post 200 entries just to be able to vote for some opinion on a gaming forum.

It's fine as long as a decent restriction exists.

@Lizzy, that's how it should work.

On-toppic

Here we go with the "Oh, no, another Facebook feature that everyone hates, ergo I hate it, too, but let's not bring that up, and find some other reasons against it" thing. God effin dammit. Stop this. If it's on Facebook, it doesn't have to be bad.
This is a small community (as far as online communities go) with about a few dozen of active members, and like that there is relatively no room for abusing this "like" system (unless the unregistered visitors are allowed to use it as well).
A bad thing that follows the "like" feature is the infamous "fishing for likes", something extremely frequent on Facebook, where people (or pages) post content (usually pictures) that are made to toy with one's feeling of guilt (through saying "only heartless people won't like this", "like is you love your family, pancakes, children, etc", "ignore if you want your -insert someone important in your life- to die"). However, being on a Heroes-related site, there shouldn't be any posts like this here.
Herry said it well that this shouldn't be related to QP's, and that such a feature is going to be a subjective feeling towards a post. I personally think it's alright to go for. Along with not removing the QP system, that is.

Also think that a minimum post count might filter in a fair manner. There are many people about that are never likely even to post anything. In Celestial Heavens, there are almost 20k members, but it's safe to say that 4/5 of it never posted a thing.

However, I also think that adding a minimum time to a member since joining the community can match with the minimum post count, or become a requirement one OR the other, to be fair to those that don't post much, but that are around for a long while, and that can, many times, contribute with quality - very common, btw.

We currently have 23 members online.

Twentythree.

We're a small dedicated community, let's harness what we have rather than make something as simple as an upvote an exclusive.

Did you read the thread? Because if so, you should know that it contains a fairly good discussion about the pros and cons of the proposed system for HC specifically.

Well, if anything should be ignored (as in not taken seriously), I think it's blatant discrimination.

Herry has actually improved a lot since the last time. I guess it has something to do with me impersonating him, or something

Seriously, tho, it definitely makes you think about what you are actually posting, and the way the other HCers see you. So, I reckon, it had some effect on his change.

I didn't meant it as discrimination, but as a measure to prevent abuse. I'd be more than happy with artu's idea of basing user quality privileges on post count. In fact, that's probably the best way to go around about it. Promotes activity and quality at the same time. No mod interference. Win / win situation.
