Jedi rule of no attachment + having kids?

How is it that the Jedi has a rule of no attachment, yet they have kids all the time?

Someone loving his own children doesn't necessarily mean attachment.
It bothers me how people have become so emotional these days.

It just shows Jedi teachings lose against the Dark side of what's called sexual attraction.

For the record, love equates to the same in their eyes.

Renaissance Jedi. They have mistresses and kids while simultaneously being in the clergy Jedi order.

The only canon Jedi that is known to have kids is Anakin, who had the twins. Leia Organa has the force but she never became a Jedi.

Also, the Force isn't genetic, with the sole exception being the Skywalkers, who seem to all have it.

They hadn't this rule all the time, only during prequels. Before that Jedi had families, children and emotions. About 1000 years before prequels Jedi thoughts that all emotions are bad so they banned any relationships in their Order and become emotionless warrior monks.

After Return of the Jedi new Jedi went back to much older ways... but of coure all these are Legends now.

I guess the biggest issue is that it makes Jedi vulnerable to the Dark Side. By having personal attachment, they fear losing that which they hold dear. And fear of losing is fear regardless and as Master Yoda clearly said a few times, fear ultimately leads to the Dark Side.

It's very clearly displayed by Anakin too, over his love for initially his mother and for Padme. It destroys him and drives him to the Dark Side by the end of Ep III. When he loses his mother, he slaughters an entire tribe of Sand People and then the fear of losing Padme drives him right into the Emperor's hands, who welds him into an effective tool to destroy the Jedi and establish the Galactic Empire.

Ultimately, a Jedi should be able to let go of everything he or she holds dear in life if that's what the situation requires. Personal and emotional attachments prevent that.

I think it's fair to say that between annihilating world's and a baby, the Sith got their hands less dirty.

That said, I never really understood what made the Sith so bad/evil, from the movies anyway, as a kid watching the originals it was cause oooh mean baddies blowing up the lady's planet, little did they know that she probably supported the carpet bombing of pro Empire colonies. But yeah reading lore made me anti republic/Jedi too, with all the kidnappings and whatnot, and it's pretty ironic, only siths deal in absolutes, so why the hell are the jedi against attachment? Sure attachment CAN lead to one going dark mode through fear, but that's not a universal truth, it's a situational outcome, so I believe that was the true downfall of the Jedi them spoon feeding lies.

You're giving it too much thought. Star Wars is one of those LotR-like stories where every important character has "good" or "evil" written on his/her/its forehead, complex personalities are next to nonexistent, there is an eye-poking border between the morality of their motivations and in the end evil has to be vanquished unconditionally. If there is a grey character somewhere, he/she/it either joins the black or white team, or dies at some point (or both). Injecting extra moral ambiguity into a world which is bipolar by design may serve as some "what if" exercise to waste time but ultimately the people who created these worlds wanted them to be simple in that regard - sometimes this makes the entertainment more accessible.

Personally I find it amusing how easy the transition from light to dark is, especially in knights of the old republic. Having an ego is one thing, butchering innocents is another.

And much as there is wisdom in their teachings, they often act like total jerks. In a way they are responsible for losing people to the dark side even though the line is not always easy to discern.

If I'm not mistaken, in the original films, they never mentioned the Sith or at least they didn't care to name them, it was just light side and dark side of the Force. So practically it just light and dark side, and the Light were jedi's.

Now, after the three films, in the "prequels era" the jedi knights are good instruments of killing and persuasion and brainwash cult, nothing more. Not that the Sith are any different, but they're actually good at it to me. But I still like Qui-Gon because he's Liam Neeson.

Found on internet:

I had toys, comics and books, story 33 record albums, and trading cards and stickers. In all the books and even on his original trading card, Darth Vader is referred to as "The Dark Lord of the Sith". Also in one of the story books he is referred to as a "Sith warrior". And as said out here earlier, it's in the novels. Everything I stated is from the original 70's releases. However, nobody ever said what the Sith was in any of these original materials. Oh, I just remembered asking my father what the Sith was, and he said it is probably "Vader's religion". I guess my Pop was ahead of his time back in 77' - LOL :-)

I guess they can alter this as it's not canon anymore. What was true in old testament don't mean it's stays the same in the new. There is no Jedi order so.. and Luke returning to 'jedi roots' finding what a jedi realle was.

One movie line and it's like: Oh they can have kids now

Next line.. Luke: Don't you touch my daughter trooper

I don't mind if Rey is Luke's daughter. Or if she's not. I like her already.

I hope Snoke does turn out to be Darth Plagueis, or at least a new Sith Lord and not old Cosingua Palpatine.

I don't know who came up with this stupid idea that Snoke and Palpatine are the same person. For me it is as senseless as a theory that Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker are the same person. If Snoke truly was Sidious, then Lucasfilm would hire Ian McDiarmid - he's alive, he seems to be in a good shape and he likes his part in the movie, so there is no logical explaination for not hiring McDiarmid again, especially after picking up all the old cast from the Orginal Trilogy to play their parts in the New one. Even in Rey's viosin, when Yoda and Obi-Wan speak to her, Frank Oz and Ewan McGregor recorded one new line of dialogue for their respective characters. If Snoke is truly Palpatine, there isn't any reason why he can't be played by McDiarmid again.

But at least in LotR there is no question on who's the bad guy and the good guy. The grey area is totally absent and there isn't that much space for it. I mean, how can somebody think Morgoth or Sauron are the good guys or the lesser evil after seeing what they do and bring.

On the other hand in Star Wars it's not done so well, leading to inverting the sides, or at least ascribing a grey morality to the universe, something that in LotR is much more difficult.

You know what we need to fix Star wars? Emperor of the Sidereal Rings, the story of a little Ewok accompanied by a Jedi Sorceror and the human heir to the Republic, and somebody else, against the all-powerful emperor and a rogue Jedi that was supposed to be their ally.
How could it go wrong?
