Which in my opinion lacks in faction character but it will not matter with this mod because all roles will be everywhere at some point

To be honest, the stats of elite units should in general be revisited. Playing the game these past few days, i have noticed that Blade Dancers, Wyverns and even striders, the medium strength elites fall way way easily in combat. This might be due to the hit points or even the defence value, i don't know, but there should be some tweaking done to increase their effectiveness. Their abilities mean nothing if they die from shooters before they reach their target. Also, furthering my observbation, the elites should in general be a bit stronger in stat distribution than core units, meaning that there should be at least 10-15 points allocated more than the strong core of each faction.

the thing is articun, that those units fall behind because they are fast and usually go up first when they shouldn't and it makes them interesting glass cannons. each with its own ability

as for a faction without elite shooters i think a strike and return unit(flyer) alongside a flyer makes up more than enough for the lack of shooters in the tier.
as for the cores you could go with assassin/panther/evil eye.

Even so, with minimal numbers per week and failing miserably to get to their target, they don't accomplish much. The greatest reason i try to have as many archers in my army plus the strong core is this. I prefer pixies to blade dancers because i can have many, they attack without retaliation and they don't die as much believe it or not. While whenever i take my blade dancer own, i am bound to loose 2 or 3 and that means a weeks worth.

Today was an interesting day.
As you may have noticed, the mod suffers from the problem of creature growth dwellings. For example - there's a dwelling that gives +5 Wolves but it does not work on Griffins.

So I asked the totally anonymous Limbic employee whether a building like that can boost growth of more than one creature type. And got a "no" for an answer.

But since the whole mod came to be because I was told Alternative Creatures will never happen, 25 minutes later I found a way to do just that. Basically, doing not doable things is starting to become my hobby .

In the next mod version growth boost buildings will boost whatever alternative creature is present in the town.

Oh the joy of finding out that game designers do not know their tools as much as the users that don't know the tools but love the game enough to learn the tools, while the developers that are being paid to do so don't spent a moment evolving and learning

... "facepalm"

That's not exactly true.
The developers made a very open and very powerful system that probably will never be used to its full potential. Basically it has so many options, combinations and ways of doing things that it's easy to see that even its authors don't know its full possibilities.

It's like inventing a scripting language. You can be an expert on the rules that define the language but in the end you have no idea what kind of scripts will a person write - especially if he's stubborn .

nice job,

that's still a pretty sad indictment of this team that they shut down ideas only for a fan who has almost no UE3 experience to very quickly prove them wrong, I wonder how many other potential features and improvements they have ruled out internally due to pure ignorance, but I'm not surprised lol

I'll have to contradict you mate, everything beyond the basic map editor, all the stuff used for modding is actually just taken from UDK. It's not their merit, just look at h6 for example, look at the editor, does it contain near as many tools as h7? No, because it was made on a home-brewed engine made by BH. They gave us a part of UDK, that's like leaving the back door open. And they gave it to us because Unreal is free now and open-source. Look at MMX "modding" kit that requires you to buy the $2000 professional Unity edition. I was pretty quick to get my grip on modding just because I used unreal engine before and if you don't believe me I can show you screens from unreal editor to prove the similarities between it and h7 unreal mode.

I may have told this all wrong.
The person I talked to was very competent, nice and I'm certain that he has far superior IT knowledge than me - both in general, as well as concerning the H7 system, which he helped to make.

I just told the story as an amusing joke, not as a way to put myself on a pedestal, nor to disprove anybody's good will or competence.

From looking at the Unreal 3 / H7 system I can totally, 100% understand that it's impossible to think of all possibilities and it's easy to forget about an option in the vast sea of them.

If you want to take a general conclusion from what I said it's not anything negative about the authors, but that sometimes it pays off to keep on trying, even if everybody says something is not possible .

It's not that we are judging here. It is basically their lack of initiative in trying to implement stuff and instead of trying to help a bit, they reply with a single no.

You took initiative and you found a way. For all their experience and their good manners as you say, they preferred to say a simple "no, not happening, can't do" instead of trying to give you some insight. This in itself, poses further questions about them, not the person in general but as said above, the internal scheduling and decision making of ideas presented to them.

I didn't want to say something offensive, neither about you or the Limbic team and I apologize if I said something you consider an attack. I just wanted to say that you can do pretty much anything in unreal mode since it's basically UDK. Just that we can't give them credit for actually making this system, let's make an analogy of H7 as a box and Unreal as the hammer they used to make it, since they didn't actually make the hammer they may not know that you can also nail other types of nails into the box, but that it's not impossible.

certainly that's just an observation I make in my own right, informed by context of the team's behavior patterns and attitudes elsewhere, I don't necessarily suggest my personal interpretation has implications reflecting on yours or that anyone should agree with me lol

And yet not one of the elite shooters is one of the "top" elites. Just shows I must have more creativity in my pinky toe than everyone at Ubisoft combined.

It's all so weird ... I mean, even UbiLimb must have seen the reception of H7 was that of a cold shoulder. Then implementing some solid fan suggestions get brushed off with a simple "can't do, code doesn't allow it", while here we have a mod in the making that pushes that all aside and I have to say, with seemingly relative ease. Now I don't know how much time you spend in all to make your magic work, but it sure sounds like it's something UbiLimb could have done too and probably a bit faster too since they have the indepth knowledge of how they structured their code whereas you are still exploring it, AcidDragon.

It seems like fans can make this game shine where the original developer failed ... looking forward to your explorations!

I don't know yet how far this all can be pushed, but at this point I can say that many things are a matter of time and people. For example, I do believe it is possible to create an entire new faction with no hard-coding whatsoever. But it would require quite a lot of graphics and animations of course.

So in theory fans have the tools to create their own expansions. Something which would be a dream-come-true for WoG or HotA authors back in the days. From my experience Heroes 7 is the easiest game to mod out of the whole family.

The only thing is whether the fans will want to make their mods, as Heroes 7 is also the worst-rated game of the family. The irony.
