Why are the Heroes games so Important & Prolific to You?

What feature defines the Heroes of Might & Magic series for you

Personally, for me it's all the symbolism and exploration within a turn-based sandbox full of mythological & spiritual archetypes:  Might & Magic conceptually extrapolated into a whole pantheon of contrasting ideologies, with which to create adventures infinitus

Heroes really combines the elements I love in fantasy and video games. Creatures, music and the overall feel of the game/world is unique.

Kingdom managment is the word I use to descripe it, but it does not say enough. You can battle your own fights in strategic battles, even against your friends.

Epic, Fantasy, turn-based Legend. That's what it is.

Control of magic, mythological units, exploration and awesome battles. What's not to love? From a gameplay perspective the combination of strategy, combat tactics and town development works nicely. Smooth and easy to get into, harder to master.

Umm...

(H2-H4)

It plays fast, maps are perfectly readable, battle creatures are perfectly shaped for overall view, sounds are lovely, not much head ache with rules, load games is instant. Yeah, I don't match your talk, but I play more

I started playing HoMM fairly late considering my age, I was maybe 15 when I first played Heroes III. I was drawn to the game immediately. Such an amazing game.
It had it all; a rich fantasy setting, hero progression, cool monsters, map editor, artifacts, exploration, randomness, hot seat and awesome music. It is also fast paced and conveniently turn-based.
And it is all these things that go together and make Heroes of Might and Magic so outstanding in my opinion.

That's pretty much the crux of it for me too.

Also, it's the spirit of good storytelling and creativity most evident in the good games of the series which serve to inform and enrich my imagination the way it must have for our ancestors countless years ago when they first sat down and told tales to one another about fanastic creatures and such. This special sort of thing is often times tragically absent in an age characterized by the excesses of ever-spreading modernity.

So to say, the Heroes games have filled a void by upholding an imaginative tradition.

Personally it's because the original games (Heroes 1-4) were so originally and creatively made, they came with touching personal stories and valuable thoughts in a world that greatly diverged from the usual fantasy clichés. The music, the towns, the hero portraits - it was all so beautifully done, especially in Heroes 3 and M&M 7-8. It really inspired me to think a lot about the world I spent my time in. I wrote several short stories about life in Nighon, that I just might publish one day. When all the other games were simply clones of each other, of DnD, Warcraft and Warhammer (ESO being somewhat the exception) - the original M&M world made my mind think in new ways instead of the opposite.

HOMM 1 2 3 and 5 used to be very adventurous mystical diverse exploration games where everything was possible.

It was a mix of everything.

Now new entries killed all that, first about every interresting building resource thing on the adventure map got canned. factions aswell. Reductions accros the board in gameplay and adventureness forcing players to corridor rush forward the entire game.

Now uninterresting resources are put back in, factions are very uninterresting carbon copy gameplay wise. Theres no uniqueness interresting choices to make any more, with a cheap flanking system to cover up this thruth.

Graphics are inspirationless i guess only the music remains good.

I hope HOMM gets a new leader cause Erwan le Breton did a very poor job guarding homm's strenghts and wants to make generic uninpirational fantasy. That where the first changes introduced.

But HOMM was great cause of its imbalances randomness like every creature building idea was desinged by hand and fantasy first.
This produces the best games.

Current games are all about balance and oversimplification reductions of all possibilies in the sake of balance.

Balance makes a very very very uninterresting HOMM in my book and made the game very bland.

A mix of stuck in the medieval era and, factional survival on any given map.

It has(The whole series of might and magic Heroes no matter its age and edition's form) the potential to be the best medieval civilization game ever.

Adventure map that is not explored and known yet.

Alien, fictional, mythical and, religious in origin in the form of races that battles the map for domination of the chosen/made map.

Building your main village to a glorious city of your liking or, needs.

Then, developing your main general(s) to your liking or, needs;especially when it comes to fighting or magic bound spell-casting(Aventure map and battlefield alike).

The fun really begins when your will to conquer and control the territories that has cities or forts and, deliver the final blow to any factional race that dares to oppose you. That's the game RISK that comes to mind while using the good ole' Battle Chess approach to crushing your enemies at the other end of that specific battlefield or siege of the enemy's city.

In other words, not being a full fledge RPG or one on one combat but, a true war game that combines strategies and tactics on a world wide approach(too bad that stopped existing to its fullest since Enroth of HoMM3:Shadow of Death v.3.0). Magic just combines the whole as a full sized fantasy game(No longer totally real like the Total War franchise).
