Uniforms

What do you think of school uniforms?

Recent discussions in my country state they should start having children wear them.

I'd be for all that if the taxes were lower. All that money to make those uniforms means that something (the taxes) have to be increased to make up for it. And even less reason if the parents have to pay for them.

But I don't get some people. This is to just reduce the class differences between rich and poor, right? And yet they say that won't have any effect.

Oh, I thought it was common? In Brazil, it's completely normal having uniforms, at almost any school age. At least a T-shirt. My time at school, I had uniform all the time.

What I think of it? I see no harm. It's ok for identification and discipline, similar in lines to the Army. Some bullying might also be suppressed if other children won't judge their fellows by their clothing.

But that's an example from this country. Other countries might see it in a very different perspective.

We already have "mandatory" "uniforms" until middle school, that is a simple jacket shall we say?

As a kid I never wanted to put on that thing, I liked comfort and that thing was coarser than my usual clothes, it's no surprise that in my 5th year of primary school I completely ditched the thing.

Yeah, I was a rebel, I even wore fingerless gloves unironically in middle school.

I'm also that bonehead that goes with his sleeves always pulled up, and I don't wear coats.

I think I may not be that composed smart guy I thought I was...

That's a strong case against it. The army is an institution with unusually restrictive norms that its members (hopefully) consent to by joining. But it's monstrous to force even a small part of it upon the general population. What did the poor students do to deserve such treatment?

The only form of uniform I'd even mildly tolerate is no clothes at all, force children to be free. Emancipation starts with the small basic things often overlooked.

That's the deal. Out here, some people want that military service because of "lack of discipline in the youth", which should be built earlier, by parents and school and such. There were uniforms about 30 years ago, but they disbanded them when the new regime took place.

Oh, and yeah, back then, the children referred to their teacher and their friends as comrades. You could say it is some sort of professional relationship.

And I don't see what's so restrictive about it, either. Well, maybe the fact you get only one and you have to clean it every week, but that's not a major problem.

I would've wore my high school uniform all day long if it meant the girls would do so with theirs. There's something refreshing about seeing girls in skirts displaying some skin. Also yoga pants during sports. Also Japanese school uniforms and swimsuits.

What treatment? Still don't see a problem. I'm not traumatized by it in the slightest either, as none of those I know. It's probable that this matter is not something of a fuss in my country.

For today's standards, I'm ok either way when it comes to it. If I have a kid in a school that requires uniforms, I would comply to it. The most pressing matter would be if the school would be 'good' or not, and hopefully it's not, at least not here, measured by the freedom of attires given.
