I feel you, I was close to dropping it after the first. I had hoped it would redeem itself along the way since it had 24 episodes, which it minimally did. But in hindsight, this series as a whole does not deserve an 8, so I'll be lowering the score to 7. Mecha settings tend to be so bad, and I'm thinking it's because of the scale and how ridiculous it gets. Plus various things that happen which require shutting down your brain in order to accept. The one that stood out the most between all that I have watched was Code Geass, and all the rest feel mediocre at best by comparison. I'll try Evangelion at some point, but right now I'm done with the genre.

On another note, Olympics are messing up the schedule of some ongoing titles. Shaman King takes a 3 weeks break. Feels bad. At least it's not the best of seasons right now, so I guess it's fine.

Elves are the epitome of blandness in anime, one of the worse fantasy tropes by execution/plot. It doesn't take much to surpass them. Succubi are just overkill.

Lately, thread progression seems to mimic the quality of this anime season. Not a whole lot going on. Well, at least I am still watching and recently started the second season of Quintuples. Tsar would approve.

Heavy Konosuba spoilers

Kazuma never scores, not even with succubi. he uses their "wet dream" services only.

End Spoilers

after finishing Nagatoro, I dove into the new season, and the first pick is a yet another bleeping ecchi harem. this time with shota flavour.

Megami-ryou no Ryoubo-kun. shota dork gets homeless, his deadbeat dad leaves him, and he ends up as a dorm mother to a band of lewd waifus. another near hentai crap, the "so bad it's good" type.

and also been watching Dragon Maid S2, and the slime isekai.

5-toubun no Hanayome 2, 8/10. I don't know what to think about the ending, felt way too abrupt and unsatisfying. It was set up to fail either way because of the harem tag so I already had my expectations in check. But overall the anime was pretty good. Great characters, funny antics, confusion from impersonation especially a treat, some wholesome moments, some spicy moments... Too bad for the harem tag, really. Always doomed to get just a fraction of the happy end, if there's any to be had at all.

Wish they did more anime like Horimiya or Tonikaku Kawaii, biggest romance highlights for me this year.

Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai! seems pretty nice spin of an isekai. demon lady get's busted by a magical girl and ends up in human world where she needs to survive and collect maguffins.

Oh and if her magic runs out she turns into a loli.

Gave Akame ga Kill a watch and I have to say it was a pretty good battle royale anime, but that's about it. Makes me think just how much better it could've been if it had a well paced story that was actually relevant. Instead, it was just an excuse to pitch everyone against everyone and throw superpower fights with each episode... Just imagining how better this could have been amplifies my disappointment. Good characters, good fights, good animation, a bittersweet ending, all of it wasted on a battle royale with no further meaning.

To be fair though, this shed some light on my experience with the Fate series from way back. They're pretty much the same. All out battles between random OP characters for some grand purpose no one bothers to care for. Though I am pretty sure Fate had slightly better world building and plot? Eh, in the same ballpark either way.

Well anyway, Akame ga Kill gets a 7 from me. After pondering for a good while, and 8 feels too much of a stretch and I can't justify it, so I'll settle with that. It's good for those who like this kind of anime with all action and not much else, but I'll personally stay away from this genre for a while.

EDIT: Also, forgot to mention: 'Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei' Sequel Novel 'Yojouhan Time Machine Blues' Gets Anime. This is The Tatami Galaxy, they're giving it a sequel after more than a decade. Completely unexpected, but needless to say I'm fairly excited!

Watched the 3 Heaven's Feel movies, besides Zouken and Kirei (who had a solid badass scene that I've been itching for for so long) it felt meh.

SPOILERS:

We simply did not get to explore enough into the characters, like Rider wtf are you and what is your past, cutesy and all that you survive, but who the **** are ya?! Like damn I know more about assassin than I do about this hag.

Also, wtf happened to the damn crest worms lol? I love how we got to explore more of the Matou family magic using their disgusting worms, but damn.

Also what fight scenes happened made no sense and had no real reason behind them, even more so than the other two routes (standard route I forgave cause hell the war is being fought by a bunch of kids for random reasons). UBW had a cool final battle.

Was nice to see all the past staff with the grail and how it got corrupted and it was nice that the grail finally granted the frigging wish so yippee.

Meh, 6/10 it's UFOTABLE so even their crap will always have great animation and amazing soundtrack (the latter I found lacking in impact though).

Sorry yall I've gotten even worse at reasoning due to how close I am to expiring.

Well, it's just 3 films. Needed a full series to properly explain everything. Incidentally..

I thought rider's identity as Medusa was at least mentioned? Maybe the film skipped it, I don't remember. Her backstory is not covered in this route, rather in hollow ataraxia. Same with lancer.

At first I wondered about Sakura's crest worms too but it seems she fried them along with Zouken before the final showdown. Helps having grail powers.

Meaning of fight scenes is probably there but not explained or given context. It is different when you have already read the VN, you take some things for granted. But I've forgotten a lot even from that.

Meanwhile I've started Vivy fluorite's eye song and holy crap, it is great.

During my 3 day vacation I started reading konosuba again. Turns out there are like 17 volumes and I'm halfway through the 9th. Well, no rush.

Have been reading more konosuba and finished Vivy fluorite eye's song. Worthy, go watch it To your eternity was fine. Absolutely loved the first arc, it never quite felt the same afterwards.

Almost forgot, been reading more of junji ito. Not all his stories are high tier but most have a way of staying with you. And then I remember that.. Anime. No, that didn't happen.

3eps into Dr Stone and I am thoroughly enjoying it - love the characters.

Getting some Log Horizon vibes (character wise), one of the main differences being the MC having a much more commanding personality - more self assured.

It's the small details that really stand out and this anime does well so far. For instance there's a great scene that portrays how an intelligent person reacts to when their plans do not play out as intended. It is not about getting it right 100% of the time or magically pulling the solution out of your ass, it's about having a solid instinct and understanding how different variables interact and that nothing is an accident and that nobody acts without reason (conscious or otherwise).

I really love the first season. Second gets some sidestories we could not care less about but still a solid season. Third.. is meh. It's juggling so many storylines and thus moving at a pretty terrible pace.

Mushoku tensei was nice but as a season it feels like the frankenstein monster stitched together. After the mana cataclysm it does not feel like the same story.

*MUSHOKU SPOILERS*

Ok they get teleported. Why exactly do we fall into the adventurer's guild trope? Why wouldn't they just go straight for their home, where they don't even know if their family is alive or not? It's not like they can't go around the city and I assume they can restock without staying there long. The sperd guy hadn't depended on that in the past anyway.
Also. Before the cataclysm, a weird stuff spawns in the sky AND NOBODY BATS AN EYE. They let that thing be for like 2 years and nobody shows an interest in it?
And that man-God looks fishy af. For all we know he could be the sealed demon, what's his name.

*MUSHOKU SPOILERS*

Resumed last season of dr Stone. It kinda feels like the series is going easy mode these days but it's entertaining all the same. Still haven't forgiven them for Senku's retarded gambit in the first season, back when I still thought this might be a smart series. I'm also not buying Tsukasa's posititive potivations at this point.

Been a while since I last shared here, but there's not been too much.

Tokyo Revengers wrapped up on a mysterious note, possibly foreshadowing the continuation it deserves. It felt like old school gang wars, just with a redo twist. At first I was quite angry with Takemichi, though the direction it took by the end was slightly better. Still a ****ing crybaby MC in an unscrupulous gangster world. Well, hopefully it gets better next season. For now, this gets an 8/10 from me.

Boku no Hero Academia 5th Season is about to finish airing in one episode as well. I doubt there's anything else of significance left to show, so might as well rate it now while I'm at it. Some interesting plot development with regards to quirks and the villains. Shigaraki's backstory tried too much to be impressive and failed as far as I'm concerned, but I do like the present day outcome. Overall an average season, will give it a 7/10.

A surprisingly wholesome show, even though one would be excused to dismiss it as fanservice at first glance.

Hmmm... Well, seems it might just be time for me to embark on another anime adventure. The air is changing and hopefully for the better. Summer season is long behind now, and what a horrible season honestly. I say good riddance! I welcome the upcoming releases with open arms. This winter there's some really heavyweight titles which I'm excited for. Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer, Jojo and Tagaki-san? Count me in.

For the time being, I'm continuing One Piece and Shaman King which I watch almost regularly. But it's definitely time to pump it up a notch and explore some other titles. My focus will be on some spring anime which I had at the back of my mind, titles like Odd Taxi, Vivy and 86. Score wise no complaints, I know you guys watched some and gave praise, guess worth a shot.

Honorary mention to Getsuyoubi no Tawawa which I watched on the spur of the moment. Was it odd that I found it somewhat relaxing? I do appreciate the "office life" part, the "youth" part is okay I guess. No idea why white collar people are often depicted as depressed, stressed and tired all the time, but I guess there's a bit of truth to that (especially in Japan).

I was surprised to see Mushoku Tensei airing another season so soon! Definitely gonna check it out myself. I remember the first season was good.

Right now I finished Fruits Basket: The Final. Man, it's been such a long ride that I'm kinda stunned it ended. This is probably one of the most well done series I have ever watched. Certainly a bit dramatic at times, but it blends well into the rollercoaster of events each character goes through. Decided on giving it a 10 after debating the idea. I simply can't think of a better anime with all those elements. I'd also be hard pressed to find something I disliked about it. I know sometimes I'm just entertaining the idea of shoujo romance like the fickle thing that I am, but this one was seriously gripping! If I had to say one thing that I liked about it, it's how complex feelings and thought patterns are fleshed out well enough to see where the characters are coming from. Why they do the things they do, why they say the things they say. It can be confusing at times, since they love living inside their heads a lot, but it's believable and it works out. There are also some pretty tragic moments that come to pass in their lives, and it's very interesting to see what lessons each of them draw from them. It's an emotional ride throughout. Wish I could see some JP reactions. I bet their targeted demographic ran out of tears to shed by the time it ended.

Since Elvin took the bait and replied, I'll watch Vivy next. If I recall, it was still ongoing when he decided to praise it here. How did it turn out by the end? I'm curious now!

Alright! So far so good. I'm feeling it. Starting with the right mood and hopeful it continues. Eager for more great anime! Let's gooooooooo!!!

(me right now)

EDIT: Alright, I did give Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song a try and while I was hooked at first, it became apparent to me midway that the direction wasn't exactly what I had imagined. By the time I finished it, I decided on an 8/10 rating, mostly because of Wit Studio and their great animation and overall quality. However, and I don't want to go on a lengthy rant (even though I very much considered it), the story and pace and characters and everything that converges into what we call "substance" was so off the mark that it was a pain to see it unfold. They had a well-constructed sci-fi setting to explore some of the most fundamental questions regarding AI technology, and they blew it. To be fair, now that I think of it, this anime is an original adaptation, which means that most likely the director and story writer simply settled for "good enough" and it ended up like this. For so much potential gone to waste, I am not only disappointed, but also annoyed.

As a side note, but also something that deeply influences me, Stellaris story and walkthrough on AI tech, AI rebellion, AI sentience, AI rights, Synthetic AI and AI crisis have impressed me to a big degree and it's a source of comparison. The way they did it there is in good flavor and it makes sense. In this anime, the flavor is appealing, but it doesn't make much sense. I think that's how I'd sum it up.
