oh yea, nice goal by aloisi and great goal by cahill, in off both posts (its a great feeling to score a goal like that in the final minutes, ive been there and done that)

I may have to change my predictions before the next Australia game. They are playing much better than i thought. Im really disappointed with Italys result against the USA.

was playing a game, football manager 2006, and i checked what the result of the 2006 world cup was.
in the game, spain beat holland in the final 1-0 to claim the world cup. argentina came 3rd beating sweden in extra time 4-3
lets see if games can be used as accurate betting systems

We need to clarify one thing now that the knock-out stage begins: Are we to predict the outcome of the game after 90 minutes (case 1)? I.e. if a match goes into extra time will the correct prediction be X (like when you make bets)? Or should we predict which nation goes through to the next round (case 2)?
DragonSlayer will have to decide this. In either case my predictions are here. ( I'll write "(X)" afterwards if I think the game will go into extra time. Ignore these if case 1 applies).

I don't know whether I'm the only one, but since Portugal won I don't really stand any chance of winning unless noone else has Klose for the Golden Boot + Brazil as champions.

So
Germany vs Argentina - A tough one here... two consistent teams, Germany lacks the skill and beauty of play, that Argentina posses, but they have their home country behind them. Still I pick Argentina, who have so far been probably the best side.
Italy vs Ukraine - Eventhough that Italy made it through with a late goal from a PK, that should not have been, they still are the favourites here. Ukraine failed misserably in their first match against Spain, but then came over Saudi Arabia and Tunisia. Their second round opponent Switzerland wasn't from the top favourites and Ukraine squezed through on penalty's. I dont expect an upset here.
England vs Portugal - England have been a big dissapointment for me, but this choice is a choice of heart. I still belive in the english eventhough that they have been performing poorly.
Brazil vs France - The French haven't played much, except the match against Spain and I don't belive that they will beat Brazil, as underperforming as they are. If it were up to me, I'd like to see both of them out, but I'll just have to wait.
