Why did people leave?...

I'm a bit confused(or I just don't read all of the topics), but why did people decide to leave?

I know that Melina and Cat and some others posted alot and then were gone...but why?, it seems that the reason they left were because people were what, mean to them?  I never thought of those two as people who couldn't stick up for them selves in the forums, but was I wrong?  Were they a little too fragile and have their feelings hurt?  Or did One or two people bully them out?  Or was the HC just not a fun place for them to visit?

I know that they are missed here, because they brought a spark to the HC.

I am curious if you know why a former poster has decided to drop out, please tell the story.

Melina and Cat arent the only ones! Shae_ went to Europe but she could be here if she wanted to. They actually have computers in Europe now! Other valuable community members have left also.

Maybe we could ask Sha_Men... he left for awhile and now he seems embarrassed to be back.

"The Tavern of the rising scum" has gone through a period of
change! Almost unpleasent to be here much of the time.

I often feel like I stepped in something nasty when I leave and check my shoes to see what it was.

Some of it is because of the disappointing Heroes 4 release I think.

Hopefully Valerijs message can turn things around!

Well, can't say anything about Milena, but i can sure explaine to you why Cat left...

When first she came here, she used to be a cheerfull and happy person, which reflected in her threads, and in her general attitude...After a while, some of the members around here, started complaining about why they don't get red stars, and decided that they are the bestmembers around HC and no one should have more red stars than them... And they picked Cat as their target for flamming. She had gained red stars fast, and that bothered those people more than it bothered them to ask themselves why they don't have red stars. So, to make a long story short, she had enough after a while, and i don't blame her. Anyway, i'm just hoping that with this new changes, everybody will understand to wipe the slate clean, and forget all their misunderstandings with anyone else....It's just a wish...

As I have said...

I'm not embarrassed to be back...
Personally I have been hanging on to this forum as this really is last forum I visit nowadays. I kinda live change period in my life and it's possible I won't be around too long and any of my messages can be my in last here.

This place never been too big and that story has two sides.
In small forum people know each other better but in big they might not know but there's more action. This place could have grown if HoMMIV would have been popular. There's still chance of course...but it's about the members and what they decide do. You cannot ever force someone to post.

Too bad that Cat and certain others are flamed for their red stars...One of the main reasons I changed my account was that I was little embarrassed to have the stars. I haven't used to such attention and it gave my creeps to have "responsible" status. In real life I'm more than irresponsible. People should show support to each other.

I want to apologies anybody that I have possibly offended.
Sometimes I just can't help myself.
Also I'm sorry if I have given little bit too negative image of this forum lately but I have been something like year here and I think this forum is dying slowly. Even though I might say I don't care flying sack...that doesn't mean I don't hate once my favorite place is going down.

I don't know about the true reasons, but my guess is that their threads where shredded and they were "accused" of doing good posts.

As you said they replied well, but one thing was missing. Verbal support and support written into those threads. We're all to blame for not standing by them when they needed it. It's partly a matter of people feeling appreciated and well-liked. That people are not allowed to offend them and get away with it.

Myself, I've seriously considered leaving or posting a lot less. The reasons lie along the lines:
- Too few people to discuss with and which have constructive opinions to answer with.
- Too many threadkillers around. Many of them also posts in the Axeoth Forum. Just look at the overall treatment ThE_HyDrA has got there for his threads. I felt very sorry for the ThE_HyDra and posted a few posts to his defence and also over IM but the treatment he received is distinctly prohibitive for new discussions. Who wants to create good threads when nobody voices the opinion that they appreciate your efforts?

If more members followed Valeriy's peace philosophy then HC would be a much better place to visit.

You dont have ta voice out ta set an opinion for a good thread.
I mean some people are embarraseed ta say it's good like me, but I show it in a dif way by posting.
It sounds you dont want no one ta have fun but ta be serious all thy time.
Still I didnt see any that was drastic.
Yes I do admit that Hydra threads that was worked on very hard was very unfair but others I think is not.

OldTimer, this means no offence in anyway, but they oveusly left because they had enuf about all this nonsence and drinking round the pub and alter, thats why I left four 4 months, there was too many drunk sacks of rat-poo round here. So why shoulden't they leave? It's their choice anyway. Why should we force them to stay if they don't want to be here round all the demons, angles, elementles, elves, dwarves, devils, Titans and humans. They oveusly need a break. And if you want them back so much why don't you send one of them a email about them coming back, it might work.

"You dont have ta voice out ta set an opinion for a good thread."

And this related to my post in which way?

"It sounds you dont want no one ta have fun but ta be serious all thy time."

For my own topics, yes I like to keep them serious and on topic. I've usually spent a lot of time on them, so why shouldn't I expect that people give recognition to my efforts?

For the Forum, my main concern is that it should be a place for everyone. People should not be humiliated by unfair comments, or have their topics destroyed by off-topic answers for which there are already many other threads. One good example being turning Cat's Thread about AI to yet another QP thread.

"Still I didnt see any that was drastic."

Not drastic? I believe there were comments to the effect:
'Go away. We don't want to see you until you've bought the game.'

You cannot get much more disrespectful comments than that.

The general idea.....

I believe that the recent amount of members leaving the community has to do with a bevy of reasons.
Prior to Heroes IV, when I, and many other members joined, Lord Paul was one of those faces that you'd instantly recognise. I think he was one of the members who inspired me to devote most of my time to the community, as he really set many discussions going about Heroes IV. One that sticks in my mind is the '4 or 6 levels?!' thread. That particular one had over 100 replies. Also remember another one of his threads with of 150 replies.
Back then, the basic of Heroes IV were yet to be known.
The community was lively in the Altar of Wishes, where I spent most of my time. At that time, the Tavern only had about 10,000 posts, a great contrast to the number it has now. I thought that many more people were interested about talking about Heroes IV than creating a new 'Tavern' in the tavern. At that time, there was only 1, Kuma's Tavern.

In around September some time, Milena joined. That sparked the emergance of the tavern. More an more people started to post there, instead of any other forums. I believe Shae_Trielle, Sha_Men, and Oldtimer kept the balance in the Library of Enlightenement, and the Altar.  The Altar still had a great number of followers who enjoyed posting there frequently, namely Saruman, UnkaHaakon, Djive, myself, LordTitan, Shae, Zilpheg, and a myriad of others who I have not mentioned.
I also remember RMS returning, on a posting frenzy, that saw him, like Unka and Zud, become mods of their respective forums.

Many members were very excited about the prospect of Heroes IV being released in mid-late November. At that time, people were extremely enthusiastic about specualting on the game. My 'New Creatures' thread had over 150 replies by then. The Altar had many new threads and posts each day, it was difficult for yours to remain on the front page.
Cat and Wesley were both enstated, and the surge of the Tavern occurred in December, when hundreds of Taverns were set up.
Also, due to this, there were many new members joining, and members constantly created new threads. The tavern became overcrowded, and spam was on the increase. There were too many spats, quarrels, arguments, in the Tavern, which caused a lot of rivalry between members. The number of posts in the Tavern had doubled in around 3 months.

The Altar still progressed quite steadily although some of its members had taken breaks: Shae, Saruman, Sha_Men. Many people did not post anymore.
The influx of new members looked right past the Altar, and started posting all they could in the Tavern.
I remembered a few members saying that they wanted 5 yellow stars; and quickly.

The tavern was a mess, and I really didn't enjoy visiting it. Other promising members emerged in the Altar, Linkki, Jondifool and Tristan namely.
Althoughm by that time, it was really only Preserver, Djive and myself creating threads about Heroes IV.

There were a few quiet times in the lead-up to the release of Heroes IV on March 28th, where people were primarily just too eager to post.
Val created a new forum just prior to its release, and many people began posting in it as Heroes IV was released in America. But for some of us living in Australia, we were forced to wait nearly a whole month until it was released.
Heroes Community at that point in time was at its busiest I had ever witnessed. Although, in the new forum, it was busy for all the wrong reasons. Jondifool had given his first impressions, and they seemed quite positive. But as more and more members gained possession of the game, their opinions were sour, and distressing.
The Lands of Axeoth was filled with comments on how bad the game was. Grythandril was very psiitive about the game, though.

Where am I going with this? Quite simply, members are disappointed with the game, after waiting for it for the best part of a year. Many members ha ddevoted much of theur free time to the community and Heroes, only to be rewarded in their opinion, a lacklustre game. I feel sorry for those people, as they believed so strongly in Heroes IV being a good game, judging by all the discussion.

About 2 weeks ago, there were hardly any members posting in the Axeoth forum, sometimes as poorly as 4 posts per day. I always checked in every day, but nothing seemed to be happening.
Then members started to worry about the community, and where it was going. I felt that people were very concerned with the well-being of the forum.

I for one did not post as there was nothing that caught my eye in the genre I was so accustomed to writing about. Whenever I created a thread, the number of replies was a little disappointed compared to my previous threads: Battle Effects 80 replies, Heroes 80 replies, New Creatures 250+ replies...

Then Valeriy stepped in a took order due to the suggestions made by Conn, Oldtimer, and Djive.
We can only but decide HC own fate, by continuing the trend, or starting a new way.

Ultimately, no one was FORCED to leave, it was purely their own decision. People such as:
Sha_Men: Changed identity
Shae Trielle: Left
Slava 14: Left
Tristan: Left
Milena: Left
Cat: Left
Rogue: Left
Lord Paul: Left
They went for one reason or another. None of these people were forced to leave. They most likely had other committments they had to fulfil, and had no time for HC.
I myself hav just begun high school, and I'm finding it difficult to visit this place as much as I used to, but I do make the effort.
Heroes IV takes up much of my free time, and I spend about 15 minutes on HC every night, surveying the daily events that unfold.

I for one, hope that many people return and faith is restored in the Heroes Community. As I write this post, there are 13 members and 4 guests online, much more than I saw 2 weeks ago.
Maybe the resurrection has begun....

This is just like everything else on the entire face of the planet!!!!

This is just from a different approach, but what came after ever North American recession? why yes ofcourse! A growth!

I used to make all these stupid long posts which I at the time thought were incitefull but probably weren't of much interest to anybody.. And I wanted those red stars and I posted and posted, and sometime alone the way I just realized that those red stars mean next to nothing.  I mean honestly.  I'm not sure who gets to decide who makes a "quality post" but its all relative.   So now i've left for a while not because I didn't get my precious star, but because Heroes IV multi isn't out yet hehe.  In my opinion this is just going to be another recession.  Once the heroes IV Multiplayer patch comes out I think we'll see quite a few new faces make their way into TOH and the HC.

And people leave all the time.  You guys just make a big deal about it when its somebody who is popular or makes "quality posts"  I mean I left and nobody cared.  So why should anybody else be offended or heart broken if somebody popular like cat or milena left...  I think you guys are somewhat blind to the fact that this is a Heroes COMMUNITY.  Not just for the dozen or so popular members..

Anyways... just a nobody's thoughts...

I think you understood it all wrong. What I were saying was more related to the wrong mentality, in some members' (and mine) opinions, that some people had. What i said, at least, was that people shouldn't worry about other peoples' stars, and more about their own. And Cat was mentioned because she was the last, and perhaps best, example of people leaving for this reason...
