I have thought of an idea.
This is on many forums including mine but we wont get into that.
How about an integrated shoutbox, which would appear on the HC main page with the forum index and where you can see all the topics and stuff.
And maybe only members with post count of 300 and above will be able to use the shoutbox.
If it were any lower than I think that to many of the noobs would keep on using it and stuff.
Or you could make it so that there may be 2 shoutboxes.
A public one which everyone can post in, and a private one, where people who have higher post count of 300 or maybe 500 or if people have more than 3 qps, will be able to post in.
I think this would be a good idea, and I think it would benifit the community, and you could still post HCM and all that, but this would be like an instant chat like thing.
I will post a picture later when I have an idea for what it could look like and all that.

William, do you think that with you having more posts than the newcomers, really makes you any different or say "better" than them?

It's not the first thread in which you have expressed your thoughts about "isolating" the newcomers from the rest of the community and quite frankly it really bugs even me, not to mention them. It could make them feel uncomfortable here and I for one, do not want that to happen.

As for the shoutbox, it is a good idea and a really vital part in almost each and every forum. At first I was surprised that HC didn't have one, but I guess Valeriy knows better than you and me.

Im not saying that TNT, so if this actually does happen, the shoutbox i mean, would you want about 100 people or something at a time all asking questions which get particularly annoying?
I dont think you would.
Thats why I suggested the private and the public shoutbox things.

Als I have another idea.
For the 20 posts a limit thing, how about you make it unlimited posts a day, but make it that you can only post about 5 times in one thread in a 24 hour time span.
This way you wont be able to spam the thread to death, and then in another 24 hours then you can post in the particular thread again.
And what about enabling the symbols like <>,-+=?:"'; and etc when yopu are making a link to a thread.
For example the link wotn work if you put any symbols in it, and sometimes the links can be hard to read because you dont know if it is a comma or something else that is supposed to be in the place that there should be one.
And also what about animated smilies to put into your posts, with maybe a 7 kb file limit or 7 kb smilie limit.
Also what about the ability to just upload your own photos by copying and pasting them instead of having to upload them into photobucket.
And also maybe the ability to upload your own avatar or maybe the ability to choose the HC template or something like that, maybe accessable within the members profile perhaps.
Maybe you can select different layouts just for your own liking if you choose to do so.
And you could also still be able to leave this template right now as your default or you can change it.
What about the a calander mod that you could implement.
Maybe there could be a different or new link maybe beside 'Todays posts' and it may say calander.
And it might have birthdays of all of the members and all that.

No I dont, and your forum isnt the only one that has these features, I just want HC to grow into a 10x better community then it is now, and right now it is great but could do with something more imo. no offence Valeriy

Here is what the HC calander option could look like:

Those are what the calander might look like if it is ever going to be implemented.
Later I will post what the shoutbox may look like
Hope you like

One thing I thought of which I think could be implemented.

A searchable Avatar List... Or pages divided into numbered sections. Or a search function in the avatar list.

When I wanna know how many people are using a certain avatar, or it is yet unoccupied, I can't, as I have to browse zounds of pages before finding it

This feature is not VITAL, but it would be a nice addition whatsoever

Concerning email notifications

1. The links direct you to the first page in the thread. Could this be changed to the last page?

2. I think this has been proposed before: Could it be possible to un-check the email notification box if you no longer wish to receive notifications from a given thread?
I'm using gmail where emails from the same sender are grouped (they only take up one line in the inbox) so it's not a big problem. Other users, however, might find the notifications annoying.

You already can do that, I do it all of the time, im talking about turning off the email notification.
You can also turn it off via your Profile and leave it off, unless you wish to tick it for yes next time you make a post.
Also if youmake a post in a thread which is like the first post, and then on a leter post you untick email notification, I think in theory you should still get the email sent to you, because of your ticked one that was your first post for example.
This is how it works I think.

I've un-checked the email notification for this post. I can't do this by editing old posts. If you disable email notification in your profile you'll disable it for all threads, right? I would just like to do it to specific threads. Is that possible?

3 suggestions

suggestion one
On the post reply screen, where you make posts, I suggest that in any ways possible, consider laying out the format so you
1: Type in screen name, then hit TAB directly to password
2: Type in password, then hit TAB directly to compose reply.

All I'm trying to say is when you hit tab, it goes to all the smilies, font options, and blue links, when in some forums you can tab directly to the desired area.

suggestion 2
At the bottom of each page of HC, I suggest there be a link to the index. In addition, it wouldnt hurt to have another link to the forum which is being viewed..
Just like this (those links in the green border ontop of pages here)

Heroes Community > Turban Tribunal > Thread: Renovatioin of HC??

Edit:
suggestion 3
Shoutbox

How about a preview button before you post?    A lot of times when I'm trying to bold or italicize something, I miss the / or whatever and it ends up just being "apsejfpoieur98YSE89u23w@#$!" or something like it.    I know I can go back to edit it, but I think it'll be more convenient if I can see what my post will look like before I submit it.  Similarly, I think a preview button will also help with picture posting.  I can actually see how big my picture is going to be before others get it see it.

Another suggestion is a quick post box on the bottom of the page when you're logged in.  This way, you can write a reply and refer to what other people have said earlier in the thread without going back and forth.  Easier communication.

And here's a last one.  Can you make the edit button available when you're not logged in?  Just prompt the user to log in when an edit is being submitted.  I mainly post when I'm at work, and something is disabled that I cannot log in (I'm forever frozen at the login box).  So if I want to edit or delete a post, I have to wait until I get home.  I don't think anyone else is experiencing this problem, and it's not anything big, so you can ignore this if you want.

see the green stripe at the top? ...it would be very practical to have it at the bottom as well... especially for those threads with really long posts

The Might and Magic forums Rednecks MM6 Tavern and Telps MM7 tavern have this very nice feature.
The forums are quite active, even today. I really recommend them.
