I doubt anyone is trying to say that war is honorable. It's just a necessary evil along the path of freeing the Iraqi people from Saddam Hussein. The cause that drove us to war, and the fact that soldiers are willing to risk their lives and the happiness of their loved ones to acheive that goal, is honorable, not the war itself.

The 90% stat. came from CNN, FOX, MSNBC, all of 'em. Al Jazeera would have you believe the opposite. Funny stuff on Al Jazeera sometimes.

Iraqi Law Enforcers resign
Today on CNN was a broadcast that about 50% of the new Iraqi Law enforcement personnel have resigned.
If this be true then WHERE IS OUR HONOR in being there?
Don't make me start quoting paragraphs from medal of honor winners who DEFENDED our nation in the face of overwhelming odds and terrible evil.
An honorable man is always courageous but a courageous man is not always honorable.
It took courage to oust Sadam but it was not honorable to go it alone and ignore international law by privatizing the country's assets. I believe I just defined the term: 'Spoils of War'.Invade Iraq and give the oil to Haliburton? A company owned by DICK CHENEY?
We must stop this madness! Get the U.S. out and the U.N. in!

CNN has a lot of reporters over there, they said they acctually went around and asked people. How reliable that is, I'm not sure. But strange how several news sorces came to the same conclusions.

I've seen analysts and guests on various talk-show style news shows say things like "I'd say the vast majority of the Iraqi people want us there." However, I've never seen anything where somebody did a rigorous poll to find these things out. As to reporters walking around talking to people, do those reporters ever leave the "green zone" in Baghdad? I'd find it realistic that 90% of Iraqis disagree with the guerilla fighters, but that is not the same as liking the presence of the US soldiers.
I don't know, maybe 90% of Iraqis do want us (and by "us" I mean a bunch of 18 year olds who are as far away from home as they possibly can be hoping like hell that they're not the ones who get blown up next) there, it's really hard to figure out. Based on how I'd feel, I'm guessing that most Iraqis were quite happy to see the back of Saddam, but are just as eager to see the back of the US army. Let's face it, it's humiliating to be occupied by a foreign power, even if that foreign power is an improvement over your old dictator.

Wolf: Not entirely strange no, if you want to fiddle statistics you just ask the right people in the first place. Not that I'm suggesting these are, but I hold strong reservations about "opinion polls" and the like because they rarely are accurate. I'm sure there's a majority, but 90% sounds too arbitary and too optimistic to seem to me to be balanced.
And yes you do, you win a signed, nude photo of Peacemaker, you'll need to fight her for it though

Actually bort, I listened to the Iranian Embassador to the U.N. doing a presentation at -- was it Jackson University??? -- last Wednesday on CNN, and his statement almost precisely mirrored your thoughts here. His position was that while the Iraquis were largely thrilled to see Saddam's ouster, one of the things that inspires angst among Middle Eastern Countries toward the United States is military occupation. So in his opinion the quicker we can turn self-determination back over to the Iraquis and get the heck out, the better for sentiments toward the U.S. And the longer our presence lingers, the worse for those sentiments.

Wow... this thread is still going?
America is still fighting the war against Iraq even though George W. Bush has already declared war over. However, other countries have lost their troops as well in very recent months, most notably Italy and Spain. Does this mean Iraqis are targeting lesser targets of Western Society?

Saddam Captured???
There is a widely circulated rumor being reported by Fox News and CNN that Saddam was captured some time in the past few hours in his hometown of Tikrit by a special operations unit of the Fourth Infantry Division(???). There is to be a press conference at 5:00 a.m. Mountain Standard Time (it is currently 3:53 a.m. here) during which confirmation will presumably be forthcoming.
Reports of widespread celebration in Tikrit, Kirkut and now Baghdad as well.

Well well well...it appears Saddam has been captured and the Iraqi people are again celebrating in the streets. I guess Bush and the coalition had it right from the start as the response of Iraqi's confirm...the appeasers were willing to enslave a nation for their own economic gain and cowardice...once again the Iraqis speak loudly that Bush and the coalition have freed them from tyranny!

During the press conference, just moments ago when video footage of Saddam in custody was shown, the press conference came to a halt for several moments when a number of Middle Eastern reporters rose to their feet, raised their arms and began yelling "death to Hussein" and "death to Saddam." I believe I heard people sobbing for several minutes thereafter as the press conference resumed.

It seems to me that no unhappy Iraqis can be found. I don't know if that "proves" 90% of the Iraqis are happy we're there, but it sures seems like 100% of the Democrats and their journalistic sycophants are miserable. Check ABCCBSNBC, or CNBCCNNMSNBC.
