I enjoyed the first campaign of Disciples 2 (Empire). Actually more than that, I was hooked to it. However, it didn't took long to figure out the shortcomings of the game and my addiction to it worn out.

+ Graphics and artwork better than in HoMMs and AoWs.
+ Music and especially sound effects are good.
+ Terrain changing.
+ Campaigns are nice work (at least the Empire one).
+ Creatures gain experience as well as heroes.
- Too few adventure objects compared to HoMMs (this is the flaw of Age of Wonders too).
- Different sides feels too much same (also problem in Age of Wonders).
- Generic death animations.
- Too simple. Especially battles: There were basically three different units and supporters (like healers of Empire and Paralyzers of Hordes): ranged attackers (who could do damage to any one unit), meleers (who could do damage only to adjacent units, remember not to leave them into back row), and units who could damage every unit in the battlefield.
- You seldom get high level creatures except in larger maps with lots of experience.

Overall, it was a good game and definately not a crap. I never did try the demo though, so I don't know whatkind of image of the gameit leaves to person.

Some great turnbased games: Warlords 2 Deluxe (was the one that sucked me into fantasy games in the first place), Jagged Alliance (darn great game), Fantasy General, Heroes of Might & Magic 3 + WoG (better than any of the expansions that NWC has done), Heroes of Might and Magic 4, Age of Wonders 2 and Disciples 2.

I never really liked that much about Heroes 2, so it ain't there. It was just too simple and I didn't like the cartoonish graphics either. Warlords 3 was disappointing, however, I never tried Darklords Rising so I don't know if it came any better. I'm looking forward to Warlords 4 though.

However, there is a turnbased game that is above all those games I listed there: Magic The Gathering.

I like your choice, because IMO JA2 and the Addon unfinished business are very good games. Also Fantasy General (one of the most underestimated game ever!)
Heroes3, no doubt.
Heroes4, greatest disappointment ever , sorry

What is this "Magic The Gathering" about? Didnīt heard that before.

keeping the thread going

got Master of Orion 3 last weekend. If you think HoMM 4 was a bad follow-up, take a look at that one, lol. Worse than its predecessor in every aspect. Best thing about it is that it motivated me to re-install MoO2

Good news (or maybe not so new?) for all Jagged Alliance 2 fans. A mod called "Deidranna lives" is available for free (for English and German version). Downloaded it recently, but didn't install it yet. Anyone did?

I used to play Lord Of The Reals on my Amiga "Days Of Old" hehehe it was great, however, I didnt like the PC Version on LOTR 2, The Intro was fantastic but I didnt like the "drag your troops" and hence force, i liked the battle for castles tho, but the command and conquer style of moving troops i hated.

Another game I have heard about is EVE, can anyone tell me if it worth my while taking a look at it?

Thanks!

Civ 3 Rocks!!!!

So many aspects to it.  I love it!!!!

I got some tips for ya Kuma if you still need them.  I haven't gotten the 2 expansions yet, but they have added 15 new civilizations between the 2 of them and much more!!!  And the first expansion has MP included and the of course all three have RMG's.  I however don't know where people meet to play it.  I'm totally hooked on this game at the moment.  Its just so vast.  btw, Egypt rocks for a civ.  1 day of anarchy for government switches is awesome and its always fun to see enemy towns join you civ.  GOD I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!  hehe

Anybody know of any good online tournies for it?

Kings Bounty

btw, for those of you who didn't already know, Kings Bounty is what started the Heroes franchise.  Kings Bounty was the unoffical original first Heroes.  The guy that made Heroes made Kings Bounty.  His wife was in love with the game and begged him to make a sequel to it, so he did.  The name of the sequel?  yep, Heroes of Might and Magic.  Midnight showed me a link of an artical about it once.
