Well, I'd argue that making assertions about an individual based solely on one's ethnicity, especially on such a flimsy basis is, in fact, racist.  Being racist is, of course, an inalienable right as long as it doesn't cause one to perform illegal acts.

However, I must say that Wolfman's reasoning has given me a new identity.  I found out that I am, in fact, a self-hating lesbian.  See, it turns out that most Americans are women.  I am an American, therefore, I must be a woman.  I know that I am extremely attracted to women (that is, the women who are really women, not men who happen to be women because of the eagle on their passports).  Since I, apparently, am a woman, it would seem that I am also a lesbian.  The most recent election also would appear to say that most Americans dislike homosexuals.  I am an American.  Therefore I dislike homosexuals.  As a lesbian, this means I must dislike myself.  It's made worse by the fact that most humans hate Americans.  I am a human.  Therefore I hate Americans.

I really, really hate myself.

Back on topic, I don't think it's sad that Colin Powell resigned.  I wish he had done so earlier.  He deserves better than being the most irrelevant Secretary of State in history.  It's sad that GW has turned a man who would have been the smart bet for any presidential election he ran in into an impotent yes-man.  Good luck general, I hope you have a better time in private life than you did in public life.

Fortunately, though, we have a black woman as his replacement.  She's black and female, how conservative can she be?

Frontline:  Rumsfeld's War

I wish I had found this -- and posted it -- before the election.  It is a little irritating to try and watch at certain peak times of the day because it keeps pausing for several seconds at a time, but midmorning to mid afternoon seems to work best.  If you start having trouble with it, you might try closing and re-opening the segments, and if that doesn't work, just wait a few minutes and try again.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/pentagon/view/

I think many would find interesting a comparison between some of the dialogue that has gone on in this thread during the same time this documentary covers, and the doc itself, particularly noting whose observations and predictions have borne out.

The most amazing thing is that Rumsfeld is so good at dazzling the folks that despite everything, he is the last man standing.

Well babydoll, you can always find me on MSN messenger.  You know... gootchrocks@hotmail.com.  And please, try to be mature this time and stay away from Tell the Truth, .

My pop-up blocker is so good these days it's blocking IMs. So no more HC conversations of yore.

I watched the last two bits of the Frontline piece.  It was so good I decided to put the other parts on my list of things to do.

Interesting how much of a bumbler Rumsfeld comes across as.  Did you know that he was from Illinois?

My roommate's father had him in his cab twice several years ago right after the '92 election.

Interesting parts about his conversations as he puts them...

My roommate's father mentioned that he really didn't like Bush Sr.  Said he came across as some country club Republican.

Rumsfeld's reply was that Bush Sr. was in fact a country club Republican.

My roommate's father mentioned that at least Bush Sr. did a pretty good job with Desert Storm.

Rumsfeld's reply was a quick 'no he didn't'.  When asked why, he replied that Bush Sr. should have finished the job.

I've heard that story several times over the years.  But I'd forgotten about it until he and I talked about the election while on our way to Thanksgiving dinner.

And by the way.  I'm out.

First person who mentions a closet is going to get donkey punched.

November 29 was my last day.  I've been deactivated.  Now, one of these days I'll get around to writing how I REALLY feel about my time in the service.

Later.

I can't wait.  Any chance of it becoming a new thread?

EDIT:

Alright Gootch.  I've sent you your damned flowers.  (Actually it was a herd of cats.  Don't worry and/or be dissappointed; no illicit material is to be found in the package....)

And have you loosed them yet?  (NOOOOOO...)

So whaddareya gonna do about it?? HUH???

Dissappear into the mist again I suppose?

Like yo-yo's in an hourglass, so are the Gootch's of our lives...

Signed,

"BABYDOLL"

(back on-topic)

Anybody else watch the Frontline pieces I posted?  Any feedback Vad (and others)???

I confess I'm completely hornswaggled Peace.  Um, my address changed.  I'm back in Chicago.

Do I loose them?  I've no idea the reference.  It sounds like it must be obvious too and I'll probably want to kick myself when I find out.  When I find out this ah, esoteric reference of yours I'll tell you very plainly what I'm going to do about it.

Feel free to send me whatever illicit material you want.  It's not like there's someone snooping through my mail.

Buuut, how were you able to send me something when you didnt' have a current address?  That's amazing.

BTW: I was talking about THE CATS.  Have you loosed the cats????

(rolls eyes)

Geeze what do I have to do, USE SIGN LANGUAGE?!?!?!?!

(I don't send HIM flowers anymore.... HAH!)

<EDIT AGAIN>

Oh and one more thing.  Which illicit material would you be referencing?  It wouldn't be, per chance, the unedited version of the garden scene in Temple of Worship???

I thought that's why all your hair fell out the first time...

LOL

(For the curious, the story line picks up on p. 38 in "Temple of Worship" (Tavern of the Rising Sun Forum), but things really start to sizzle on pp. 44-45...)

"Actually it's quite fun to fight them, you know. It's a hell of a hoot," Mattis said, prompting laughter from some military members in the audience. "It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right up there with you. I like brawling.

"You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil," Mattis said. "You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them."

This is coming from a 3-star general Peacemaker. And you want Powell to become an elected official?

It's Concept

I've been arguing against letting a military general such as Powell move into the presidential spotlight because he has never held an elected office. I feel that our country elects generals when it wants the world to know we mean business about war. In my opnion we aren't at war in the way wars are traditionally fought. For this new war on terrorism I think we need officials like George H.W. Bush who played a major role in helping lead us in the cold war.

That's what I think about terrorism. I think it must be fought ideologically and with great covert tact. I think we need a woman as president in 08(Hillary Clinton) and have her cabinet filled with top CIA/FBI accomplished individuals. Gone are the days for boots on the ground. If one of our cities is hit with a nuclear suicide bomber then who do we invade and attack? There is no country that openly supports terrorism. First we must defeat the terrorists with the ideals of a woman president like Hillary Clinton and then we take the fight to their doorstep with our intelligence and counter terrorism agencies. The ideas will support the actions. I know they will.
