Wow! Really great info there, Flag! Yea, I see it's very likely that Limbic is the developer of Heroes 7. And don't let Elvis fool you. He probably surely knows more than any of us here. Once again, ty for links and info!

Whoa, people let's not jump to any conclusions here. Just because Limbic is hiring, this does not, in any way mean that they're working on Heroes7.

All it means is that they are working.

Unreal 3 engine. Strategy (TBS / RTS). AAA PC/online game.

I can't see anything else but Heroes 7 here.

That is wishful thinking and nothing more.

Unreal 3 is used for pretty much anything as evidence here.

And it is very questionable if Heroes is an AAA game.

- AAA PC/Online
- Extensive experience in designing levels for strategy games (TBS, RTS)
- Limbic latest works are Heroes 6 and M&MX
- There has been literally ZERO news of MMX since the release. No words about a second patch, second DLC or anything.

I think it's pretty obvious

Looking for a level designer doesn't say much of anything other than that their upcoming project has levels. Which can be said about just about every videogame ever.

And as the (Dutch) saying goes: "Results achieved in the past are no guarantee for the future."

If that was the case, it was likely the lowest budget AAA in recent times. Especially since budget is one of the few reliable ways of judging AAA games nowadays. Especially since "generic brown shooter" certainly does not apply here.

Omg WO. I know this is not confirmed information but it is in no way far fetched. I simply cannot think of any other game than Heroes 7. It's like planets aligning all at once.

We just had a discussion earlier about this. I get that it's not guaranteed, but it's the right call to take a dev team with past experience than hire another one with none.

Yes, and only in made up stories is the "planets lining up" actually an omen of something.
Look, I agree, it's not far fetched at all. However I would like to spare myself the disappointment and embarrassment of getting my hopes for naught. And I'd like to spare others of such feelings if I can.

That never stopped Ubi before.
But in all seriousness, while a safer bet as a rule, even experienced people can fail or overestimate their own abilities.

HC probably the best community that I met, but I see that you a little boring now because there are no news. Therefore I decided to throw to you a couple of the interesting facts, but urging keep your mind cool.

Well let's have fun further…

Of course I have doubts about Limbic and H7, especially after they last vacancies that confused me much: For our PC/Next Gen/Online production in our office in Langen/Hesse we are currently looking for an
Senior Game Designer and Internal Producer.
You will participate in developing complex, dynamic PC and console games.

But what about this… I am sure that you saw this in Limbic’s secret level of MMX:

Maybe it’s belonged to DLC The Falcon & The Unicorn,  I’m not sure…

Next, I think you saw too:

But did you saw this?

I - What are your thoughts on how the franchise has been managed so far?

Heroes I was new and refreshing, but obviously needed some polish as well as a bit more body. It eventually crystallised down into Heroes 3. Some might say that Heroes 3 is a bit too clean in its symmetry across the board, but being a sucker for symmetry, I actually like it.

Then they tried a number of new concepts with Heroes IV but they didn't have enough resources (time is a resource as well) to do it 'properly', causing them to release a flawed product. Things went downhill from there.

While the overall quality of Heroes V and VI exceeds IV in my opinion, the fact that Ubisoft was producing the game meant a shift from having a company that actually centered around the game to a company that considered the game somewhere in its fringes, a cash cow to be milked. In my opinion, the latest two installments never got the love they should have had, if commercial aspects weren't so very dominant over creative and innovative design.

I can only hope that Ubisoft has learned from its mistakes and manages to find a better balance between the cash cow on one hand and a creative innovation in the series on the other.

II - Can you make a top of the biggest mistakes the devs have ever made (no number limit)?

Heroes III: A fair number of useless skills, like Learning, Eagle Eye, First Aid and Mysticism.
Heroes III: Overpowered skills and spells like Earth Magic and Town Portal.
Heroes III: The Cover of Darkness making a map section completely black instead of greyscale.
Heroes IV: The battle map, especially the point of view. Since screens are usually rectangular and not square, this immediately forced a misalignment of the battle lines of the two armies facing off against eachother.
Heroes IV: The graphics of the units on the battlefield.
Heroes IV: The presence of Heroes on the actual battlefield.
Heroes IV: competition for dwellings of level 2, 3 and 4 in any town, without a means to break them down again.
Heroes IV: Retaliation at the same time as the attacker (should be a special ability, not apply to all attacks).
Heroes IV: Ranged retaliations.
Heroes V: The move to a 3D campaign map (this negatively impacted the ease of use of the map editor).
Heroes V: Making the campaign map more "realistic" instead of "symbolic", what it had been in the previous installments.
Heroes V: clustering external dwellings for levels 4, 5, 6 and 7 into one dwelling.
Heroes V: The shift from hexagons to squares on the battlefield.
Heroes V: The initiative bar.
Heroes V: The lack of text windows detailing the story of the map as you play it (the intermissions can only take it so far).
Heroes VI: No decent map editor, while custom maps are the bread and butter of any games' lifespan.
Heroes VI: The reduction of "rare" resources to only one.
Heroes VI: The way town conversion was implemented (a no brainer, while it should provide a strategic choice).
Heroes VI: The reduction of available factions (I especially missed Academy in this one) with respect to previous games.
Heroes VI: The fact that all campaign main heroes belonged to one and the same family.
Heroes VI: The linear skill tree.
Heroes VI: The lack of Mage Guilds.
Heroes VI: The mixing of Adventure Map skills with Might skills (making them hard to acquire as Magic Hero).
Heroes VI: The way they implemented "area of control" for Mines and external Dwellings.
Heroes VI: The general creature pool, regardless of location where they were 'born'.
Heroes V: The dragon gods concept (which not only makes for a sterile pantheon in my opinion, but also makes dragons generally unavailable as a top tier creature).
Heroes VI: The online connection requirement.
Heroes VI: Uplay requirement.
Heroes VI: Lack of generic Main Hand artifacts.
Heroes VI: Severe reduction in visitable adventure map objects.

III - What about top best decisions (again, no number limit)?
I'm actually considering Heroes III as a base line here, only mentioning design decisions that went further to improve the game overall beyond Heroes III.

Heroes IV, V: The introduction of Caravans.
Heroes IV: Flaggable map objects like Windmills and Waterwheels.
Heroes IV: Main skills and sub skills system.
Heroes IV: The distinction between movement speed and initiative.
Heroes IV: Accumulation of creatures in external dwellings.
Heroes V: Skill wheel.
Heroes V: Availability of a scripting language with the map generator to create all sorts of events and the like (which is essentially a second improvement on what they already improved in Heroes IV).
Heroes V: Ambient lighting on the campaign map as well as effects like fog.
Heroes V: Racial skills (although this could use some improvement yet).
Heroes VI: Artifacts that could gain experience and become better over time.
Heroes VI: The initiative bar.
Heroes VI: The distinction between normal attacks and magic attacks and their corresponding defenses.

What do you mean with a sterile pantheon?
I disagree that having dragon gods makes dragons unavailable as creature. Gods in many cultures are/were man- or animal-shaped. So why can't the gods of Ashan be even mightier versions of the mightiest creature they have, the dragons?
