First, nobody has done anything that deserves a penalty.

Second, I fully appreciate the levity Bak usually provides.  On the other hand, it's possible to push it too far, especially in a thread that's already full of kindling.  As I stated at the beginning of my tenure, my job is not just to police the OSM - it's also to moderate it. When a thread devolves into sarcastic bickering between two people, such that other discussion is drowned out, it becomes necessary for me to step in a try to redirect the discussion - subtly if possible and more abruptly if necessary.

We've had many problems with religion threads in the past, so I hope you'll understand if the leash is a bit tighter in that thread than is others.  I think that's a far better solution than going the RT route and forbidding discusion on certain topics altogether.

@JJ

You shouldn't be accusing others of trolling the feedback thread.  More posts along these lines will be summarily deleted.

As soon as a joke is made at my expense, JJ, and not just butthurt gibberish, I believe I'll be able to take it fairly enough.

I just can't understand the level of hypocrisy you're exhibiting. Take, for example, the classic joke about Germans being too serious (in fact, you taking it seriously makes my ironic gland jump from excitement), retaliated to by your "do you think being from Serbia is a recommendation" response. Really? You find it fitting to lecture me about how I can't take a joke two rows after that? And you're accusing me of insulting people on a national basis? Specifically Germans, with Azagal being my favourite guy on this board?

Whatever. Proceed ranting on about this if you are so inclined. I ain't got anything more to say.

@Cor
Bah, you're probably right. I should've just let it all go earlier. Sorry for the mess.

Should I feel addressed here as one of those two people? If yes, would you have the decency to show me where exactly I have been sarcastically bickering, please?

Humor is a matter of perspective, Mvass. For some it may be a good joke, for others not necessarily so. A blond joke may have an extremely funny punchline, but telling it in front of your blond boss may not be such a good idea... And when all is said and done, an insult is an insult, even if it's funnily phrased.

Speaking of which, a politely phrased question should be worth an answer in my book. A matter of basic civility.

Not here, though.

Agreed, well deserved.

It seems that the only place that gets QPs these days are the Glade and OSM... and the latter only seems to get them in decent amounts. I have heard that standards are a good bit higher than before and that this is a good thing, but perhaps they are too high? FFT.

I guess it is hard to keep the balance.
There has been years of QP hunting, then some years where there is no QP.
It usually depends on the Mods, where they are & where they are modding.

Oh sure, blame the mods when +QPs aren't handed out frequently.  It's never the fault of the rank and file posters that there aren't enough quality posts around any longer to award.

In all seriousness, it's worth mentioning that the a good portion of the QPs I give out, including the most recent, are ones that have been suggested by other Community members, either here in the feedback thread or privately over HCM.  I cannot think of many occasions where I have decided not to award a post that another user has recommended for a +QP.  +QPs are supposed to be awarded for posts that the Community feels are high quality - not just ones that I personally feel are high quality.

While I will award posts on my own from time to time, if nobody comments on posts that have affected them in a positive way, I simply assume that most of the posts are simply not very high quality, as judged by the rest of the Community.

So in short - if you want more +QPs awarded, then start some more quality conversations and, especially, let me know when someone has posted something that you personally found insightful or especially worth reading.

[a response to feedback about me that was in the thread about Catholicism's stance on contraception]

@JJ
Quote:

I mean - it's fairly obvious, that these last weeks Elodin isn't even trying anymore. He's just spewing forth the hate propaganda against "atheists", "anti-theists" and "marxists", with Obama being high up on every imaginable list and everyone else as well who dares to speak a word against the unlimited freedom of people to follow their religion in word and deed and to teach their children whatever they may find appropriate.

Calling a religion silly is not "hate." Disagreeing with Obama or Marxism or anti-theists is not "hate." Espousing my love of freedom, including religious freedom and freedom of speech is not "hate."

You seem to think it is ok to call the beliefs of others superstitions, delusions, and fairy tales but not for the religion of atheism to be called silly? Enough with the witch hut just because you can't support your points with facts.

Oh, yeah, you have made "more severe" statements about Pentecostals than the one you proposed. I quote, "What I realize is, that anti-social loony tune pentecostals are extremely intolerant of the rights of children to be protected from their religiously deluded parents who would let them die for superstitious fear instead trusting in a loving god, and want to force society into not only to accept their delusions, but to accept them forcing their delusions onto their unsuspicious and trusting children. Those children wozhld like to be free from the torments of their deluded parents and don't want to bow to a loony uncaring Monster-god."

When posting in the thread that is about contraception let's please stick to the topic and not derail the thread. Thank you.

Perhaps he means your constant statements towards ideologies different from yours that more or less depict their followers as amoral, deluded, freedom-hating gang that wants to break into your house, beat you to coma, rape your wife, steal your belongings and quote Marx or Lenin all the time while doing these things. Frankly, I myself am getting tired about your blatantly ignorant parrot comments about the Marxism, etc. but you are beyond the point where you can even think about ideas marginally different from yours in a rational manner so I don't bother.

It's fine that you mention that, since the quote was an ANSWER to you:
You said:
Quote:

You have already stated in the past that a parent teaching a child his religion is racism and should be illegal. I could post quite a list of your anti-theist quotes. I realize that anti-theist loony tune atheists (not all atheists are anti-theists) are very intollerant of the beliefs of others but a free society simply can't exist where loony atheists attempt to force their delusions on everyone else. I like being free and certainly I would not bow to a loony atheist State-god.

And I ANSWERED:
Quote:

What I realize is, that anti-social loony tune pentecostals are extremely intolerant of the rights of children to be protected from their religiously deluded parents who would let them die for superstitious fear instead trusting in a loving god, and want to force society into not only to accept their delusions, but to accept them forcing their delusions onto their unsuspicious and trusting children. Those children wozhld like to be free from the torments of their deluded parents and don't want to bow to a loony uncaring Monster-god.

It was a culmination of a heated "debate" or what passed for one a couple of years back, and if you really want to go back to these times, no one will stop you.

Elodin, who voted you moderator?

Here's an idea: leave the moderating to the actual moderators. And if anyone on this forum is guilty of provocation, it's you, so stop accusing others of throwing stones when you've got an effing ballista raining hellfire down upon everyone and everything around CONSTANTLY.  I let the perpetual little jabs at atheists slide, but if you really want me to get tough and dirty and start handing out penalties every time I think someone's religion has been insulted, I can make your flood protect rise in a hurry.

Dig?
