I have to agree with Peacemaker.  (and of course I agree with IYY)

I too am someone who often finds myself saying:"Man i hate stupid people!" But to whom do I refer to??
here goes:

My definition of stupidity is not based on formal education or social class...  My def is based on the lack of common sense that some people and it seems to be a growing number) demonstrate in their everyday life.  Here are a few examples of my typical stupid person:

-if you smoke around yours or anyone elses kids (like in a car, dumbass)
-if you're driving along not paying attention to the trafic around you because you're on your cell phone)
-if your 5th generation welfare recipient, 16 years old and are pregnant and feeding off every other tax payer
-if your begging for my change holding a sign that says:"travelling and hungry" (idiot shoulda thought of that)
-if you call the municipal government to find out who your provincial representitive is
-if you park in a fire route and are not driving an emergency vehicle and then call to complain that you got a ticket
-people who drive slow in fast lane but are going slower than everyone else (if you pass me and go slower than me after)
-If you post that there are no Prairies in Canada and use the excuse:"I never took geography"

These are examples of what I think a stupid person is...  and of course, it's completely subjective.
IYY was getting some stuff of his chest and frankly I can identify to how he feels....  I hate stupid people too!!

Yay for Jebus and stupid people! Does it show that he works at a municipal Call Centre or what, eh?!

As for me, I actually do not hate stupid people...I actually love them! You see, my logic describes the fact that I hate the stupid things that people do. So, whether you are smart, rich, stupid, poor, black, white, gay, straight, inside-outside, OR whatever...I will love you as a human being. Even if you do something stupid, I will still love you as a human being...but that doesn't mean that I have to love the stupid things that you do!

Another point of view on this whole issue is that I can appreciate stupid people and the stupid things that people do, because it serves to educate me. I can learn from other people's mistakes or stupidity, without having to screw things up or do stupid things myself!

It's sort of like a "love to hate 'em" relationship.
OR
"Can't live with 'em," (because they do stupid things)
"Can't live without 'em!" (because they usually do the stupid things that might kill me before I get around to it)

Why else do you think I hang around with Jebus so much!

I agree with this idea. It's somewhat reminiscent of what I posted on page one, but Lion hit it better on the mark than I did. We shouldn't hate just because someone acts unfavorably in our own eyes. And yes, race and sex should by no means factor into how we judge anybody. With a little loving concern, we can reach out to others better.

On that note, I do understand that IYY just needed to let out a little steam over this frustrations. I encourage it, by all means.

I agree with IYY in every way except for what he said about business degrees. Stable jobs that require little physical effort=good. As for Korejora's post, that was really funny. That reminds me of the many "exchanges" I have at school. I really hate stupid people.

Overconfidence is often sign of stupidity. People who are stupid rarely question their actions, because they're the best, after all. People who don't acknowledge their weaknesses will remain stupid forever . That's becasue people who feel perfect have no desire to change.

Borsuk, I think if you look up "stupidity" in the dictionary, you'll actually find overconfidence in the description.

Seriously though, I agree with most of your statement and would like to add that it is both unwise & foolish to be overconfident because you never know for certain what life is going to throw at us next. I think that Bruce Lee said it best when he referred to underestimating an opponent as the equivalent of losing a fight before it even starts. The same can apply to life:

If you think that you have all of the RIGHT ANSWERS (before even knowing the questions) or that you consider everything that you do to be CORRECT (regardless of the circumstances), then you are doomed to fail over and over again. Essentially, you will never learn how to become a better person because you won't even realize how much potential for growth that you are ignoring.

Then again, Borsuk, you must consider that it is possible for someone to be CONFIDENT, without being overly so. That is how I live my life, for example:

When I act, I do so with conviction; because I make an effort to determine what the results of my actions will be before initiating them. Basically, I QUESTION myself before I act, in order to minimize the possibility of making mistakes. I never fool myself, however, into believing that I will never make mistakes. That, as you said Borsuk, would be stupid!

But, keep in mind that although some people seem "overconfident", they might simply be so afraid of failure that they disguise their FEAR as overconfidence. They might be so terrified of admitting to themselves (& to others) that they aren't perfect or that they were wrong that it drives them to extremes. When faced with a difficult situation, for example, they sometimes compensate with overconfidence or aggression. But, when it is revealed (in the end) that they are lacking or inexperienced, they often respond by blaming something/anything else for their failure. Instead of taking the opportunity to learn from their mistakes & becoming a better person, they blindly try to maintain their appearance/status by being overconfident.

As for me, I am always willing to admit when I make mistakes because doing so allows me to keep an open mind and set things right. I'll be the first to admit that making mistakes is not as much fun as getting things right, but I also realize that if you never take any risks, you won't likely gain much. Besides, mistakes are a healthy part of learning & living! Just because you mess up from time to time, doesn't mean that you have to make a big production of trying to appear "perfect" or that you even have to be sad. When I make mistakes, as I often do , I try to determine what caused the failure (LEARN), I try to repair any damage that my mistake might have caused (BEING A GOOD PERSON), and then I act with the new knowledge that I have acquired  (BECOMING A BETTER PERSON).

I consider this process as the very definition of "change". And as you said Borsuk, it is stupid for people to avoid changing who they are. It is stupid for them to ignore opportunities for learning, goodness, and improvement...and yet so many people do it. So, does that mean that these people are imperfect or does it mean that their belief in their perfection is stupid? I have to disagree with you here, Borsuk, because I believe that EVERYONE IS PERFECT!

To me, perfection cannot be measured in success/failure, correct/incorrect, or stupid/smart. Perfection simply IS! Call it spiritual, call it whatever you like...but I believe that people are perfect BECAUSE of their flaws, weaknesses, & stupidity. As I mentioned earlier, the simple fact that the potential to improve yourself exists, demonstrates that we are beings of endless possibilities and wonders.

That is why, Borsuk, I don't think that there is anything wrong with knowing that you are perfect and then acting on it. By definition, if you DO things KNOWING that you are perfect; you are essentially admitting that you can fail, recognizing that you have flaws & weaknesses, and understanding that you can IMPROVE WHO YOU ARE!

stupid ppl for me are those that dont consider the concequences of thier actions, both in the immediate and far future. i like to consider my actions because i find that many of my mistakes were because i acted on impulse thus not leaving time to properly consider my actions

so let me get this straight...

everyone is perfect but...
if they don't want to better themselves and becomes a better person they're dumb.

...but if you believe that people's flaws and qualities and faults  make'em perfect and that you accept these pro's and con's in people's personalities:

a) why would they need to change (they're already perfect)
b) why do you turn your back on those who don't agree with you or think, like you, that they SHOULD WANT to change??

hmmmm.......

you also preach accepting responsibility for your actions and learning from your mistakes....
how do you live each day with the knowledge that YOU accept responsibility for OTHERS and also apologize on behalf of others that "can't" or are "unwilling" to accept responsibility for THEIR actions???

(incredible how wonderfull it looks on paper.... )

Maybe someone should start a Dr Phil thread instead of bombarding EVERY thread with life philosophies.....
It would give those of us who would like to hold their lunches a chance to digest.)
