Possible Rise of Tatalia Explained

Edit: I made a few edits in this one and deleted the first draft. Please note that the 4th paragraph is entirely new and covers some details I missed previously.

Tatalia was always covered in swamp. With exotic vegetation covering virtually everything and with the tall canopies blocking out most of the sunlight, early human settlers found it too difficult to develop stable colonies. Having barely traveled a few days into the swamp, the humans left Tatalia alone because of its apparent lack of usefulness. As a result, very few people knew about the strange creatures that inhabited the innermost regions.

Far deeper in Tatalia's dense jungle lived several tribes; two of these were more prevalent over the others. One was a race of hyenamen who lived in villages high above the ground. Known as Gnolls, these creatures were somewhat antisocial, only taking up arms if their homes were threatened. While their ancestors were of a more barbaric variety, they had developed an honor code amongst each other that forbade such acts as murder and cannibalism. Below them along the riverbanks lived the Lizardmen, who were known to be brave amphibious hunters. They learned archery at an early age in order to hunt and gather for daily sustenance. The Lizardmen themselves had tough, scaly bodies, making them hard to injure and even harder to kill. They also possessed the ability to regrow lost limbs, although the process was often condemned for working too slowly.

The Gnolls and Lizardmen lived seperately in relative peace until sudden war broke out. Disagreements between major tribal leaders over territorial boundaries accumulated into many violent disputes across Tatalia. Neither the Gnolls nor the Lizardmen could choose to remain neutral in this conflict. Tribes were divided and assimilated, with powerful military leaders rising all the while. Massive fortresses were erected for defense at key villages. Armies of swamp tribes met each other on the marshy jungle floor and fought for months. While countless lives were taken and lost, many tribes failed to capture new territories and fortresses. Each faction's defenses were too strong for most armies to penetrate. It wasn't until a powerful chieftain named Tralossk unleased a colossal army upon his enemies that the tide of war started to change. Tralossk was a master strategist, ordering his best agents to capture and tame a variety of Tatalia's ferocious native fauna. The dreaded Gorgon and Hydra were among the many creatures that were subdued and trained in the art of war. These new beasts of war served him well in defeating the local opposition, and many grew to fear his power as a Beastmaster. The war continued for several years, with Tralossk and his generals claiming nearly every inch of Tatalia. The prisoners he captured became slaves and servants, while captured generals were forced to serve the military under his banner. By the end of those years, Tralossk had proclaimed himself king of his newly united nation. The Fortress was established.

All was not yet safe in the swamplands, however. A great number of dangerous wildlife still roamed the land freely and untamed. For years, swarms of gargantuan Dragon Flies descended from their lofty nests to plunder the lands for mortal blood. Even though these creatures were easy to slay, their vast numbers multiplied with each season at a frightening rate. Furthermore, the Flies' terrible bites contained a magical effect that unnaturally weakened their victims' strength. While all of this was happening, Tatalians had another threat to worry about. A creature known as the Basilisk lurked the swamps in search of unwary victims. Basilisks were not only feared for their sharp fangs, but also for their uncanny ability to petrify victims through making eye contact. Few warriors succeeded in slaying these monstrosities without accidentally succumbing to their deadly gaze. The creatures' origins were unknown, and there seemed to be no way to stop these vicious predators. The king sent out notices throughout his kingdom in hopes of finding knowledged individuals who could aid in stopping these wild beasts. Help finally became available from two sources many months later. A traveling Tatalian adventurer named Korbac brought back a special incense from the eastern lands that magically subdued the Dragon Fly swarms. By depositing the powder on the creatures' nests during mating season, the newborns became easier to capture and tame. The results were obvious as time passed; Dragon Fly swarm attacks eventually became something of a rarity. Elsewhere, a human hermit named Bron arrived at Tralossk's palace claiming he could subdue a Basilisk single-handedly. The hermit left, but returned to the fortress gates weeks later with a tamed female Basilisk. When asked about his secret in confronting the beast, Bron was reported to have revealed his immunity to the monster's petrifying gaze. Few believed his words, at least until the human captured a dozen Basilisk creatures for Tralossk's personal collection. The powers of the Beastmasters grew mightily, as a result.

Many miles away in the kingdom of Erathia, a large mysterious sect of female spellcasters were being persecuted by the local religious authorities. These sorceresses were charged with practicing witchcraft and were thereby purged for their crimes. One night, the entire sect mysteriously vanished, leaving no trace behind. The Erathian people were puzzled at their disappearance, unaware that the sorceresses had managed to flee to the nation's western border. Using their magic spells to guide them, the band made their way into the wilderness. Finding themselves at the heart of Tatalia, the sect sought refuge in the Fortress towns. Upon hearing the stories of their persecution in Erathia, the Tatalians agreed to support these "Witch" spellcasters. The sect split up, with the ex-members journeying throughout the land to advertise their magical talents. In no time, the inhabitants of Tatalia were augmented with magic.

By this time, Erathian merchants noticed great trade potential in their Tatalian neighbors. Seeking to import loads of strong Tatalian wood, caravans of builders and merchants journeyed into the swamps to contruct trading towns. Little did the Erathians know that this peaceful trade would last for only a short time. Another turf war was underway in the region, this time including Tatalia's southern neighbor, Krewlod.

The people of Krewlod were hostile barbarians who lived in the rocky steppes to the south. A martial people, Krewlod disregarded peaceful negotiation as an undesirable option in their foreign policy. The barbarians sought to capture a region at Tatalia's southern border called the Borderlands and were willing to shed foreign blood to accomplish this feat. A burning animosity between the barbarians and the swamp dwellers escalated into bloody conflict. The southern Fortress towns worked quickly to mobilize their defenses. The fighting that followed lasted for many years, and only slowed down when the veteran armies of Erathia interfered in a desperate effort to restore peace.

well I'm glad you guys didn't take my criticism the wrong way, and screamed personal insult and petty stuff like that. Props to you for that (y).

Now I'm working on a sort of story myself, of what happened right before the Restoration of Erathia Campaign. I'll hopefully be able to post it soon.

I think this thread is seen by more people than u think. It has 1650 clicks till today, and that´s much.

If you think of "+qp" with the word "seen", then i must admit, i have 2 or 3 more posts in this thread, where i probably will give a "fiction +qp" soon, like i did with 2xtreme2takes new thread. But i will wait a bit longer. so we don´t have 5 red stars on one day and then again 4 weeks nothing.....

It looks like the fiction part of the library comes up again, and that´s cool in my eyes. I decided to write in the comment, when i give out a +qp, for which of the 3 sections (strategy, trivia, fiction) the +qp was given for, so it´s perhaps easier to "understand" for other members.

Don´t loose your motivation, you are (all) doing a good job here, and, what is more important, you can show you are able to post outisde the VW as well..

I´ll give you an example:

Look at the Collectors Cut from Xarfax. A really great thread with lots of strategy hints many players never heard of. How many responses he got? More than 5 members who said "Excellent post"?...not really...but u can be sure, many many more players will us these strategies in their upcoming games, and i think that´s the reason why this thread was made by him, coz if players will use such a strategy in an hotseat game with a friend for example, the friend will ask: "Wow..where did u learn that?", he will prolly response: "From a guy called Xarfax in an online forum...cool stuff there...look it up"....

So don´t measure the quality of a thread by the responses u get, many members just like to read and not to post..

Possible History of Nagas Explained:

Nagas are native to the riverlands in southern Bracada. They possess a multitude of arms as well as a serpent-like tail. They were primarily marine creatures during prehistoric times, but eventually evolved into a land-roaming species. While some Nagas live underwater, many have adapted to living in lavish pavilions on the banks of rivers and oceans. Interestingly, male Nagas are more prone to spend their lifetimes underwater than the females for unspecified reasons. According to legend, female Nagas are worshiped by the males in order to appease the species' head diety, a water goddess. The legend goes on to tell of beautiful underwater shrines where the males constantly meditate and pray for the support of their goddess.

Female Nagas assume the duty to defend and rule their kingdoms. Swordplay is taught to the creatures at an early age so their combat skills will be well-honed when they reach adulthood. Nagas are known to be deadly in single combat because their attacks are strong enough to temporarily stun their opponents from making hasty retaliations. The most powerful of these creatures are rulers from the many Naga villages of Bracada. The combat abilities of these fighters are remarkably better than that of their lesser brethren. The fighting power of the Nagas is so vast that most opponents tend hesistate attacking such creatures alone and without help.

A magical property inside the Nagas' bodies allows them to survive in lands where water is scarce. A parched desert is usually no problem for these creatures. While the moisture in snow is beneficial to the creatures' rate of movement, castle moats and damp marshlands only serve to slow them down. But, as many foreign armies have come to understand, a speed handicap is not enough to stop a determined pack of Nagas.

Nagas were discovered early on by the wizards of Bracada during their initial treks throughout the region. The wizards sought to take in the species as their new allies because the weak power of the Tower ground troops could not compare fairly with their talents in magic. When the Nagas agreed to side with the Tower dwellers, the military became strong enough to stand on its own without being totally dependant on magical assistance. To this day, the Naga is often considered to be among the Tower's proudest symbols of its military might.

Possible Background of Walking Dead & Zombies Explained

Where there are practitioners of necromancy, there are undead. Given enough time, a Necromancer can raise an entire army of the dead as Skeletons. While the dark spellcasters of Deyja are the most powerful of their kind, the art of necromancy is believed to have started as a cult practice in Enroth. The art evolved and spread across continents, abandoning its secretive aspect in the process.

Skeletons always served as soldiers. While they fought reasonably well and were easily created by even the lowliest of Necromancers, the need for more undead minions was still urgent. A variation of the standard reanimating technique was formulated, which could partially halt the decay rate of corpses. Thus, the Walking Dead were created. Even though reanimating corpses required more skill and resources than raising Skeletons, the final results had their benefits. With some flesh and muscles still intact, the Walking Dead were more durable and better suited for performing menial tasks. The lords of Deyja's many Necropolis towns employed these undead minions as slaves to harvest resources, among other things. Walking Dead are also sent to fight in wars alongside Skeletons and the other undead.

Every military commander will agree that the combat skills of these reanimated corpses are very subpar. What is often overlooked, however, is the subtle power of certain individuals known as Zombies. While they are not very different from other Walking Dead, they are known to carry an excess of bacteria and disease. With this power within them, Zombies literally weaken enemy troops at close range. Otherwise, Walking Dead and Zombies have proven to be quite unremarkable on the battlefield.

U guys no need to worry. I have viewed this thread many times, and i am indeed intrigued by the stories in this thread. So, I have decided to contribute something to this thread. How about *drumroll* the arrival of the Inferno town? I've decided to give it a try

Here it is: Pls note that my writing suxx and pls pardon any grammatical or spelling errors in my story.

Who is Lucifer Kreegan?

Well, he is, or used to be a man called by the name of Eofol. He is a well known barbarian, loathed by many, for he is a horrid criminal, mugging, raping, and beating up anyone he comes across. He is the vilest man known alive (back then), and almost everyone, whether they know him personally of not, hate him, but they do not dare lay a hand of him, for Eofol knows many tricks of the trade and can easily evade an oncoming ambush or strangely resist most forms of magic.

Until one day, he went too far. As he was drinking on a cliff, he discovered an abandoned baby girl, crying for its mommy. Eofol proceeded to strip the poor innocent girl and make her lose her virginity. But, somehow, an eye in the sky saw Eofol about to commit his dastardly act. As he was about to insert into the poor kid, he was struck by lightning, thrice. A storm raged, and the cliff he was on collapsed. The poor girl was buried beneath the rubble, but what happened to Eofol? Did he die?

Eofol fell off the cliff after that huge electric shock. When Eofol woke up, he was feeling hot all over. As he looked around, he saw hideous red monsters surrounding him. He was also on fire, and in the background, he could hear sadistic laughter, kinda like his own laugh, jeering at him as the red beings took turns to beat him up. Eofol was in Hell, and he was experiencing the exact things that he did while he was alive. Suddenly, the giant demonic creature that was laughing at him approached him. When Eofol looked up, it seemed to look exactly like him. It said:”I am Kreegan, and I have been living down here for as long as I can remember. I wish to go up to the surface. In order to do that, I have to take the form of the vilest being alive, and wait till that being gets a near death experience.” Without much explaining, he said:” Before long, both of us will be joined as one, and both of us will emerge from this inferno and take over the world above!! Hahahahah!” And with that, both Kreegan and the Eofol fused into one.

The next thing he knew, Kreegan was back in the world he lived in, no longer in hell, reincarnated as a demon. “I AM LUCIFER KREEGAN!!!!” he roared out. As he roared, the ground around him went up in flames, leaving behind but smoldering ash. The nearby mountains had somehow transformed into volcanoes. Having ‘survived’ hell, Kreegan has new magical fire powers, able to hurl tiny embers or set huge areas ablaze by chucking fireballs. With his new chaos powers, Kreegan decided to conquer the world, starting with Erathia. But he needed an army, so he started creating many portals all over the volcanic lands to hell. Demons were brought out through the portals, and Kreegan got them to live and breed in his world.

Soon, many types of demons evolved, and they were living in a volcanic place not far from Erathia named after Kreegan’s former name, Eofol. Any curious traveler who entered Eofol was slain and reincarnated as a demon. Kreegan brought out the fiercest dogs from Hell to guard the borders of Eofol.

Unfortunately for Kreegan, many of the demons were dim-witted fools. Some of the tinier demons had wings but the dumbasses couldn’t fly. Most of the other bigger demons were just grunts, able to take orders, but they can barely wield weapons. All they could do was jab with their horns. Then Kreegan realized that the humans, elves, dwarves, and whoever that lived in his world when reincarnated as demons were more intelligent than the ‘pure’ demons. So, Kreegan decided to open portals in his world and summoned many innocent peoples to Eofol. They were turned into demons, and they were sharper than the ‘pure’ demons. Kreegan called them the Pit Fiends and put them in charge of controlling the idiotic ‘pure’ demons. Wizards summoned to Eofol became Pit Lords, and were able to turn dead people into demons.(the targets are already dead, so they are as dumb as the ‘pure’ demons). Some of the ‘pure’ showed some talent, and the Pit Fiends trained the gifted ‘pure’ demons to hurl fireballs accurately. Surprisingly, it was a success, and the demons who toss fireballs were known as Gogs, while the impure demons (those who weren’t from Hell) were able to throw deadlier fireballs and were called Magogs. The Pit Lords even taught some of the tiny winged demons to learn to absorb magic and redirect the magic source to another person, and some of them split up the Hell Hound heads into three. The 3-headed dogs were called Cerberi, but because the three heads were smaller than the original Hell Hound's head, they didn’t pack as much bite. Nevertheless, with the ability to bite three people at once, Kreegan liked the Cerberi, and trained them in his army.

One day, a group of genies was seen near Eofol. Kreegan spotted them and got to know that they were a group of genies who hate the cold and refused to go to the snowy peaks of Bracada. Kreegan realized that this group of genies called efreeti would be a valuable asset to his ever-increasing army. He gave them a magma pool for the efreeti to live in, and the efreeti were discovered to be more powerful than the Pit Lords. Luckily Kreegan didn’t reincarnate them as demons.

There is still one thing left before Kreegan conquered the world: Kreegan is going to attempt to summon the very most powerful demons much like his former self when he was in hell. With help from the efreeti and Pit Lords, he was able to call out the larger more powerful demons from hell. These are no ordinary ‘pure demons’. They are much more powerful, with the ability to teleport (which was, btw, Kreegan’s other power when he lived in Hell). They agreed to fight for Kreegan if they were given a grand palace to live in. Both sides agreed, and now Lucifer Kreegan rules over Eofol.

He only waits for the perfect opportunity to invade the world…

...well that's my story. Any comments?

LordZXZX,

Very nice story () but as you said "Pls note that my writing suxx". with a few minor changes the story could be even better

for example:
1)
Quote:
Until one day, he went too far. As he was drinking on a cliff, he discovered an abandoned baby girl, crying for its mommy. Eofol proceeded to strip the poor innocent girl and make her lose her virginity. But, somehow, an eye in the sky saw Eofol about to commit his dastardly act. As he was about to insert into the poor kid he was struck by lightning, thrice

instead of "As he was about to insert into the poor kid" you couldve just continued to say:

an eye in the sky saw Eofol about to commit his dastardly act and took action, he was struck by lightning thrice

or

an eye in the sky saw Eofol and watched. just before he could commit this dastardly act he was struck by lightning thrice

2) you said "(which was, btw, Kreegan’s other power when he lived in Hell)"

when you could have included it into the story. like when Eofol was in hell and kreegan was speaking to him, you couldve made Kreegan teleport around Eofol.

just little things like that

but overall Great Story

oh I read through most of this thread, so I dont think the following was explained.   Hope I'm not stepping on any toes.

Centaurs in Rampart town explained:

Long ago, the gods created the first two centaur brothers, Nimbos and Nessus, and their mates, Nydia and Nadalia, respectively.   From these two brothers spawned two clans of centaur warriors.  The centaurs, due to their swift legs, were a nomadic group of skilled hunters.    The clans co-existed peacefully at first, defending one another from danger and assisting each other in the hunt.   However, strife between the two centaur brothers soon tore the two clans apart.
Nimbos was a sly centaur, who preferred to avoid direct meelee combat, but instead relied on weakening an enemy from the distance before closing in for the kill.  To achieve this end he and his clan developed excellent archery skills, which they used to fire volleys of arrows on an enemy before swifly retreating.

Nessus considered this behaviour cowardly and dishonorable, preferring instead to engage directly in glorious combat.   Using their lower body strength, they hurled themselves into enemy formations, smashing them apart and sowing chaos behind enemy lines.  He and his men crafted long battle lances which they wielded in many a furious battle.

The two differing philosophies eventually drove the two brothers and their clans apart.    A large war was waged between the two, in which many centaurs were slain.   Horrified by what had happened, the two brothers decided to part ways peacefully, agreeing that it would be best for the centaur clans to seperate, in order to ensure survival.

Nimbos eventually led his clan to the land of Enroth, where they were hired as mercenary troops by the Warlocks, which lacked any typed of ranged support.  Nimbos had finally found a home for his peoples, and passed away.   The clan has remained with the Warlocks ever since.

Nessus too, found a new home in AvLee.  The tranquil forest was a welcome relief from many years of wandering.   He and his people settled there, and eventually he allied with the rangers in their defense of the land.   Employed as shock troops that broke up the enemy lines, Nessus and his centaurs were a force to behold.

Both brothers, being the first of their kind, were blessed with a long life, each living to be centuries old.
