About time! I was avoiding this thread for a while because I thought everyone would be close-minded and for the "Theory of God." Being a former devout Roman Catholic, I have seen both views. But, I will probably lean toward the atheist side, because recent converts are always the most zealous towards their cause.
Unfortunately, I have only read the first 4 pages before I could take no more and had to post. I may repeat some things. I'll do this in quick sound bites:
 China, Vikings, and many other nations did wonderful and amazing things without believing in God. China invented paper, which the Bible is currently on...
If God has given us free will, why does he still intervene in our lives, as many claim? Why let others die of Cancer who are devout, but save others through miracles???
It wasn't until the mid 1990's (I think 1994) that the Pope finally admitted that the Earth revolved around the sun! 1994!! If you now anything about Astronomy, this is ridiculous!
Some people have a hard time believing in Evolution because it took Billions of years, while they have been here only 10 to 40. The weaker set of creatures die, while the ones with better genes live, and over time "evolve."
The reason evolution has []seemed to stop at his point is because evolution has finally resulted in a truly sentient being. Evolution will continue and we will adapt to new worlds and enviroments, but this debate starts here because we are the first species able to debate it.
Why are there no mentions of Dinosaurs or other planets in the Bible? Why did God destroy the tower of Babel when it got too high, but let us fly into space?
If the devil is really in the middle of the Earth, isn't he pissed that we keep digging? We are taking his Oil!! And why aren't more things blamed on the ultimate evil, if he really exists? I haven't heard a crazy man said to be possesed by the devil in a loooonnnggg time!
Why does a really sympathetic being let the Devil exist, yet throw people who steal loafs of bread into his domain? How all powerful can this guy be if the Devil can't be destroyed!?
The end of the world will be caused by a 7 headed beast rising from the ocean with crowns with a name that if the letters are added to gether equals 666? What?! And if God already knows this is going to happen, then he couldn't of really given us free will!!!!
People who believe in God are often stupid because they refuse to see the other side of things. Why not check to see if your religion is the right one? That's what I did. How can you be sure you are believing in the right God, who supplies no more proof than other Gods? "Faith" is an easy arguement, that is why every major religion uses it for proof.
 Unfortunately, I don't think this arguement will ever end until we finally meet aliens thousands of years from now and they are not Christians. Then, of course, there would be egotistical people who believe we have to spread the "Word of God" to the aliens. Uh, wouldn't he of done that himself?
Sidenote: Saying athiests have nothing to live for is the worst arguement in the book. Life has more meaning when you get only one shot, not when you are waiting to die. And it's not like we really die, our molecules will continue to exist, and maybe someday someone else will get our same genetic code. Then billions of years from now all the black holes will pull the universe together to the size of Detroit, and the big bang will happen all over again. With this happening over and over again for infinitey, I'm sure somewhere down the line there will be a being just like me, on a website for a game called Heroes, typing up the same arguements. Kinda make you all warm and fuzzy inside, doesn't it?

Just wanted to state that I appreciate the considerate and respectful posts of Ichon, Bort and Sha_Men. Even though we disagree you do it with honor and not name calling.
Avallach...glad you are in this thread or I think I would be very alone...hehe
P.S. Bort and Avallach...I will bow out of the evolution debate You guys leave me in the dust with your knowledge...I find your posts interesting even though I only understand maybe half of it I will stick to the philosophical, theological and psychological aspects of our discussion as I know I am outmatched in the evolution discussion

I'm actually atheist, to say so, but i find bible very interresting (i'm still reading it ;( and thus very hardly - because it's not written in my home language - and I can't find any online store to get it in bulgarian).

There is some hypothesis, that OLD CHINESE were believing in one GOD - Shang Ti - which seems to be the Yahweh god (Jehova). Though i'm not so expert (i've just read one book giving the idea that CHINESE pictographs have somethin to do with the bible). Yeah - but probably with having high tower they were not exactly meaning reach the skies - but to be greedy. E.G. - humans become too greedy for everything.

Yes, there is a God, and yes, he's watching EVERYTHING you do... But seriously, who here is really the Christian holy type? I bet none of you have lived a life sin-free. Wonder is hell's gonna fill up soon. Maybe if you bribe the gatesman he'll probably let you in. Then you then screw heaven over. But heh... reality check. And wow, you must go all out to prove Jesus's existence. But this is God we're talking about. And yeah, there was a real guy around the year 1 A.D. named Jesus. But you have to understand that for a long time the Bible may have been altered somehow and history's not what it's supposed to be. It's all the
!@#!ing disciples' fault. They didn't copy the Bible correctly. But who knows. My point is... maybe we're not the ones to argue whether there is a God yet. Maybe at your deathbed you realize that God is real and you start memorizing the Bible. This leads the question into something else. DO YOU BELIEVE IN GHOSTS?

While I was thinking...
i came up with a theory of my own. I don't belive in god. There are many things that if he realy existed he would not let happen. Why would he let millions of inocent people die in wars, let there be starvation and racism?
Well i think there is no god, but there could be a higher inteligence that people concider god. Just like so calle angels could be warriors. I mean if some of the things in the bible are true then think logicly. Angels with burning swords... soldiers with weapos(probably), destruction of SodomaGomora sounds like an atomic explosion. Just think clearly... and u can discover the answer. Creation of humans by god isof course not true. Well think what u want, but i think there is no god.

These sorts of things (the pictures), always make you think about Jesus, but honestly, I think we see what we want to see in them. I've found cloud pictures that look exactly like a few friends I have (I'm NOT kidding!), and to be honest with you all, I'm not entirely certain that Jesus was a white, blonde-haired, blue eyed guy either. I mean he epitomises the perfect male feature, and if he really did exist, then I reckon he'd be on every cover of Cleo around!
Does anyone think that Jesus may have been dark-skinned, black haired and short? No. Why? Because the Catholic Church is run by white people and their image of Jesus is imagined as being like themselves. You know, there was once a true portrait painted of Jesus when he went to dinner with a Syrian king, I think. This painting has been hidden for thousands of years and has swapped hands so many times, people think it no longer to exist. I am willing to bet that this painting is now in the hands of the Vatican and they're too afraid to show the world the true image of Jesus, because the portrait of him is nothing like what you see in the clouds and in the sky. The church would have to remake itself in the image of Jesus 'negro' Christ and this would tear the following apart...
I'm not an atheist. I think atheist is a rather narrow term applied to a broad range of people. I believe in (a) God, but I don't believe that Jesus was his son and I sure as hell (no pun intended!) don't think that heaven is in the clouds and full of pure people who wear white robes and live for eternity in complete and utter bliss.
Jahweh was an alien. Angels (men with wings), were merely aliens who could fly. And the Ark was really a spaceship that captured a few animals during a time of heavy rain and experimented on them before dumping them on high, dry ground. I believe the Egyptians (to go from an agricultural society of peasants to the greatest and most knowledgeable race ever seen, in the short space of a few centuries), were taught things by aliens. Why is it that Egyptian mythology is unique?
Crazy ideas, I know, but I'm content to have fun and ask questions and wait for the day when an answer is found. Until then, I'm not going to commit myself to believing/disbelieving in Jesus and the commonly accepted terms of religion, because there's every chance that I could be wrong and for me to stake my entire life believing in something that MAY not exist at all is the ultimate lie.
I see no wrong in being a non-believer. Call it cautiousness, but if GOD does exist, then when this knowledge becomes known to me then I shall open my heart once again and renounce my many many many sins and be welcome unto his great Kingdom!
And if not, then I shall die and I won't miss a damn thing! LOL!

Well bro, in some bibles it also does say GOD will not help us, That again he wants us to make the right desicions.. LIFE IS A TEST. And we're the pencils, and the world is the paper. It's up to us single to do whats right and what to believe in, and to have faith. Hell is an 'F' in grades. and Heaven is an 'A'. Which do you want? and what can you do to get that?.... I must say that post you made was pretty stupid.. but still where the hell did you get ANGELS WITH BURNING SWORDS.. Not HOMM hopefully. People mistake Angels. And i can't believe so many people don't believe in GOD. Or Jesus... Anyway we have found records and we found the Cross Jesus was crucified on, and Noah's Ark(Is it really?). And anyway if seems Jesus did live some time back then. But if he wasn't the son of God and didn't try to make people Christian, and help others. Why would of Rome crucified him?

Jezus.
Did exsist.. but he was just the first WISE man this earth had.. Some people(who were very stupid around those times) tought he could do some magic..(this all were lies.) This story is same old candy the Minotaur and medusa made famous Myths.. But why we don't believe that is all true? Because we know.. Now some Invisible god would exist? PLease explane.. why are there planets like Uranus and Neptunes"? what sence do they make? If god Really lived he would appear and Talked from time to time to his SO CALLED children.. hey Shae, i see you noticed that Jesus might of had Blonde curly short hair, no beard and blue eyes. And cleancut. Anyway i can believe this, but he was poor, and the Romans had the curly hair, he was 'dirty' in one way of saying it. And he was against the Emperor. And Rome was 'pissed' that he went around telling people that GOD was stronger, greater, and more powerful than the Emperor. And so they crucified him and the Christians. JULIES CEASAR had part of this, him too killed so many christians to show the other citizens in Rome to look back at the Emperor and not GOD. Also like a said back.. way back.. that Julies Ceasar might be the Antichrist.. Also parts that didn't make it to the Bible explained what the Antichrist was like and looked like. And that compared to Ceasar. Then what we found out now.. that using a certain code back then that they had, His name came up 666.
I of course can't believe this but it sounds true, and there's too much evidence there.
