Hello.
I had a problem with my passwsord disappearing. I registered sometime in March 2010 and posted a few messages. Last night, when I went to post a message, it wouldn't let me sign in. It said the password didn't match the username, but I was definitely using the correct password. So I clicked the link to Retrieve Password, and this is the email I received:
Password for DomFontana is:
To clear old cookies, click this link:
http://heroescommunity.com/logout.php3
The password was blank. The funny thing is that my original DomFontana Profile is recognized, but it won't let you change it, unless you sign in first, which I couldn't do.
Then when I tried to email a Moderator, it won't let you email anyone, unless you sign in first. Since I couldn't report the problem to anyone, I just re-registered.
My original username was DomFontana and I just re-registered using DomFontana2. It's not that big of a deal, but I figured I'd let a Moderator know about this problem. Any chance of recovering my original username? Also, a suggestion is that there should be a way for someone to contact you, without signing in, so that they can report problems to you, when they can't sign in.
Thanks.

Actually, I never introduced myself. I'm from New York and I've been playing Heroes of Might and Magic since it first came out. I have them all. I think it first came out in the early '90s.
Homm I and the expansion were good, but I think my favorite was HOMM 2 and the expansion. I played that for a few years. HOMM III and expansion were also good. It was different, but still good. I didn't like HOMM IV and the two expansions that much. It seemed like a step backwards. Now, I finished playing HOMM V and just started Hammers of Fate. Then, I'll play Tribes of the East.
My thoughts on the HOMM V series are that I give it an A+ for ambition, but a C for execution. I love the graphics and give them credit for trying to draw the player into the game with the cut scenes and all. I'm also glad that the series didn't die and is still alive and well and hope there is a HOMM VI.
The problems I have with the HOMM V series are that it's slow as molasses, has some graphics problems, and is needlessly complicated. Even with a 4-player game, after you end your turn, it seems to take forever for the AI to move. Forget about 8 players. It's really quite boring and frustrating to wait all that time in between turns. Also, scrolling the screen can be really slow and many times there are unexpected delays when trying to perform an action. If you use real-time combat, each battle seems to take forever, so I always use Auto-Combat.
With the graphics, especially when underground, the scenery blocks your view. You can't see where you're going and sometimes can't click where you want to. The horse cursor is sometimes problematic. If you're right on top of a resource, it won't let you pick it up. You have to back up a step and then pick it up. Annoying.
I also don't like the new magic system. Too complex. I liked it when you just had to acquire Wisdom and then Basic, Advanced, and Expert Wisdom would allow you to learn 3rd, 4th, and 5th level spells, respectively. Very straightforward. Now, there is a convoluted magic system, with different schools of magic, and if you advance in a particular school, then you can only learn the spells in that school. Finally, the Instant Travel spell doesn't work like the old spell and although there is still the Town Portal spell, I have yet to see my favorite spell, Town Gate, which lets you pick the town you want to go to from a list.
With all prior versions, I don't recall there being many bugs and the patches weren't that big of a deal. With Homm V, there are 6 patches and then in HOF, features are missing, such as Kingdom Overview.
But with all that being said, I'm still playing the game every day because I'm hooked on it. And when I finish HOF, I will start on TOE. And I will buy HOMM VI, when it comes out. I just hope they fix the problems I mentioned.

I know thats why I like the Diablo series. They always keep the same graphics engine so it will work on slow and old computers but the graphics for the soon to be Diablo III are looking amazing, and thanks for the help with the internet im going to read it next.

You'll need at least 50 posts, then, post your avatar here, and probably after a couple of weeks/months the Admin will upload the avatar .

I'll find someone to help you. Your need to get help through msn messenger with someone who knows what to do. Someone should post in the multiplayer guide thread soon.
