yes, it's always a good idea to have backups, in case anything gets corrupted or messed up somehow. i always keep an original install handy, myself. and of course, i still have the discs as a hard copy.

But can the files in external storages (like usbs, discs or maybe hard disks) get old and eventually become unsuable?

i've never had any of my old external hardrives corrupted or unreadable. other people say it happens, but i haven't seen it myself. hell, i still had floppy disks that were readable.

Hi. I'm new here and this is my first reply. I have been a huge fan of both Heroes and Might and Magic series. I have started with Heroes 2 when it came out but 3 is probably the best turn based strategy i have ever played (along with Age of Wonders 1 if some knows it). My first Might and Magic was 6 and it makes me sad that they don't make games like that anymore. That is in part the reason I am here. My brother and I are trying to make a game in the style of older M&M games for mobile and I am interested in hearing what you guys think about it. Rant over

Hello everyone, this is my first post here despite me having played Heroes 3 since 2004 or so
My name is Ihor and I am Ukrainian currently working in Austria. Of course I don't have much time for playing now, but I still remember the game fondly. It brought me a lot of joy and happiness in the past, painting my teenager years in bright and vivid colours.

Seeking legends of the past
And right away the principal question, which has been haunting me for almost 15 years
Does anybody know what we are living for how I can contact famous mapmakers of the past times? I remember spending hours and hours, admiring their work, and it would be so nice and nostalgic to have a chat with some of those legends.
I reckon, once upon a time, in the beginning of the century, there was a whole company of talented mapmakers for Heroes 3 who were active on 3DO forums. Unfortunately, after the 3DO demise, nearly everybody seemed to vanish from the face of Earth.
I've already met Corribus and he's a great guy. Goldheart was - and is - my favourite. I've also talked to G. S. Reis. Still, I would like so much to know what happened to:
- Cattleman;
- Scrowe;
- Roy Ritchey;
- Gwhenwyvar
and so many others... *drowns in nostalgia*

It's been so long, it's hard to say how you could contact most of the H2 greats based on handles alone. You might try over at Celestial Heavens. Charles Watkins posted there for a while I think as Caradoc. Maybe his email address is still current.

Hi, my name is Josef and I am from Czech Republic. Unfortunately my english is very bad... I will try do my best.
I started play HoMM 5 with my sister minimaly 8 years ago and she still playing it. It is only game which she started play and still playing. We every time played hot-seat and with my creative hobby I tried make nice multiplayer maps with story in editor.
It was big nightmare for me, because the vast majority of features didnt work (especially scripts and limited possibilities with message boxes).
This time she does not live in one house with me and I found perfect HoMM 5.5, which I want try with her via LAN. At this moment I am trying preprare successful game with my friend and we still fight against problems...
We downloaded new hamachi - does not work 
We downloaded old hamachi - hamachi has generic error 7,5,5
We tried tunngle - it is under shutdown + need hated flashplayer
Gameranger - damn.. it need flashplayer too.
-flashplayer downloaded
-GameRanger downloaded
-GameRanger: "Celebration! We dont need flashplayer! HYPE!"
-my nerves: "Boom!" 
But finaly it works. Just another big problem.. We cannot play saved game (error code 0.2.0)
