Mark never liked horseriding. Felt too noble, to tame such a great beast as a slave, something akin to cavaliers and squires.

Of course, the Mages of the Order travelled only by the portals...

He noticed that he had been staring at the ground, so attuned to the monotonous stone road. His eyes ached, almost as much as his thighs from the saddle.

"You know the way better than all of us, so tell me cause I'm curious, how much longer 'till our destination?" Krull asked Richard, who seemed otherwise occupied.

Mark looked ahead, and what loomed ahead through the clearing answered Krull's question better than anything Richard could have said.

The keep in all it's glory, perched up on the Dwarven Mountains, like an eagle, a king upon his fragile throne, threatening, but honourable.

They had reached the end of their travels, but the danger, had only just begun.

"Finally... We're here. Who would care to venture forth first? Perhaps Richard? Afterall, he is the one who knows the Keep best. If there are any traps about his keen eye, for a human, will surely spot them before some of us." I paused for effect, "then again, perhaps I should venture first. The vision of 'elves' is quite keen. Or perhaps the Dwarf's for when it gets dark? His ability will be very useful."

I didn't care to state that even though his was good the dark tunnels that many dwarves call their homes, the keen eyesight of the drow far surpasses theirs. Afterall, even the Drow are uncertain of some of the dangers in the Underdark. This, however, was far above that level that most creatures of any race would simply prefer to as the 'Abyss'

I turned towards the troupe, "Well," I said, "shall we vote on who goes first? Or will someone, other than myself, be brave enough to venture forth?"

" You dare to venture forth, humph? " the dwarf pompously retaliated. " Who'd be a dwarf, if he was to run away from troubles? A worthless maggot, huh. Even though my eyesight is not that good, as of some of you, " he sharply watched the shifting looks of each party member, " I daresay I have some more experience concerning the creatures of darkness. "

Hathar looked back. He saw the Keep, with all of its prowess. He could not know what they were thinking, but what he knew perfectly that his crow was to be trusted in times of need -- not to mention when having to hide in the shadows.

" Krull! " he suddenly stopped gazing at the astonishing scenery. " What say you? Shall we join up? It whould be... eh... a good exercise for us.   " Hathar smiled as he saw that Krull was listening.

" I hope he is not a menace anymore. Ancient arguments are meant to be forgotten... " he sighed as the thought crossed his mind.

Krull was the last to dismount his horse, while Ike was pondering who will go first he made sure his heavy armor is secured tightly on his body. His fingers went through all the cracks and scratches on it from past battles, this armor saved his life many times before and maybe there would be more still to come.

Looking at the huge dark keep for the first time Krull felt his adrenaline level in his blood rising sky high, his muscles tightened as he gripped his swords handle. He heard his name called by the dwarf who has now got his full attention. The keep maybe is capable of scaring some people but surely not the warriors standing here now.

"Just like the good old times Hathar my friend, you and me side by side, my weapon is your weapon. Our goal is waiting for us inside this keep, lets get going then!" with this said he started his way slowly towards the keep.

As Hathar and Krull trudged slowly forward, eying their surroudings, and taking each step with the utmost care, I looked back at those who were following behind me. Isildur, smoking his pipe, was close behind me so I waited until I could speak with him.

"What riches do you suppose lie within this deathtrap?" I asked him. Looking up into the darkness toward where the 'ceiling' should be, I casually went on, "Can you feel the sense of dread that is flowing through us? The sense of fear at the unknown inside this Keep? Or perhaps a sense of being watched, by something, someone, waiting in the darkness. Like a cat waiting to pounce on the unsuspecting mouse? As eerie the sense is, it's utterly thrilling! Don't you agree?"

The remainder of the journey had gone quite smoothly after the goblins had attacked. The party had gained another sword. He'd never had a more talented party, but there such a sense of distrust towards one another that he knew in the back of his mind that it would inevitably lead to their breaking up. But he knew this party had to succeed. He sensed that this would be his best chance. If this party failed, then what group wouldn't?

They had to come together. What could he do? Perhaps an ultimatum? If he couldn't get people to trust each other then maybe he could convince them to trust him. Even Ike seemed to put somewhat of a sense of trust into him.

"Hold up," Richard called out to the group. He'd been travelling near the back middle of the group for the past couple days and had said very little. These are the first words he had said to some of them for days. They all turned to look at him as if startled, that they were in danger. Most of them were walking ahead of him.

"Relax, there's no immediate danger," he said. "I wanted to talk about something that I can tell has been bothering everyone, yet no one has spoken a word. Most of you I can tell do not trust everyone in the group. I personally don't see a good reason not to trust anyone in this group. Except for Isildur of course. He's a weirdo." Richard glanced at Isildur with a chuckle.

"Now I know you all have your suspicions of each other, but I think all of you trust me. Well I can tell you that's because I exude my trust and respect in all of you. Even if it's foolish to do so, one of us may end up dying on my account if I don't trust each of you with my life."

Richard took a deep breath and cleared his throat.

"What I am going to ask of all of you is an ultimatum. I need every one of you to trust me. I want you to trust me with your life and everyone else you trust me with their life. So I give you my word that each person who can put their trust in me will be trustworthy to you as well. I will take the responsibility for everyones trust."

Richard walked ahead of the group and turned to face them.

"If you can trust me and each person that trusts me, step forward now. But know this. If you break that trust or fail to return our trust, you will be asked to leave the group. We will not succeed a group of individuals."

"I am the first to step forward and put my trust into you. Stand by my side if you can reciprocate.

I turn to Ike, after hearing what Richard had to say

Isildur: I think we may have to continue this later...

I slowly step forward, and stand in front of Richard.

Isildur: Although i may be withdrawn, i do trust you with my life. However, regardless of that, i still dont trust many with my... personal issues...

I walk next to Richard, giving him a little punch to the gut for the wierdo remark.

Richard calmly looked at Isildur.

"This cannot continue later. If you cannot trust the others then I simply cannot give you my trust. Surely you must understand. If you trust me, then you should be able to trust the others whom I share trust with as well. If you cannot trust the others, then I cannot trust that you will do what's best for the group. There will always be motivation to act on your own suspicions. And that will lead to the disbanding of this party. If this ultimatum means that some of the members of this party be lost, then I would rather see it happen now before we are deep in the keep and in great danger."

Krull was running all kinds of thought in his mind, calculating every option and decission that he could make in that momment. Isildur stepped forward first, Krull knew that hesitation now will put an end to his master plan. Looking at the other members he followed Isildur and stepped forward also.

"Yes I agree that Isildur is a weirdo, maybe even a little feminine but that doesn't mean that he can't be trusted. So am I, even though I have only joined you recently I put all of my trust in Richard and as so, in all of you also. Now my consience is clean, I had made my decission, I will go forth with my full trust in you."

With his big right hand he smacked Richard on the shoulder making him studder a bit before regaining his stance. Standing next to Isildur he faced all the others, still making up their minds.

I raised my eyebrow underneath my hood at Richard's words. Then stepped forward as well.

"Even though I trust myself above all, I shall place my trust in you and the rest of the group." I said loudly enough for all to hear.

Even if the rest of the group followed, there would still be their doubts. But who will crumble first under the psychic onslaught of their own inner demons?

If someone didn't soon, this would all fall apart.

So Mark stepped forward, and leant on his staff.

"No one has given me any reason not to trust them, and so I trust this group as far as will be necessary."

Richard smiled hearing the words from Mark.

"Good this is what I like to hear Mark, Ike, Krull. Perhaps the rest of you would like to ponder this a bit longer. We can continue up to where it would be too dangerous for you to venture alone. That would most likely be the maze. At that point I will ask everyone for their final answers."

There were several entrances to the keep and Edwin led the party around to the side as he had found in the past that it had been the safest for large parties. The entrance was a medium-sized door that led to a hallway about two meters wide. As they took their first steps into the Keep Edwin broke the uncomfortable silence.

"I know I can count on all of you to do your best to keep yourself and everyone else safe and alive. Be on guard, sometimes there are a few pests that roam these hallways, but nothing too dangerous.

Annunhalion awoke. At first there was nothing but blinding light. He closed his eyes immediately. Such pain. His whole body was shaking, he felt as he had been torn into four peices and then sown back together again. Oh, god... What happened?

With his eyes still closed he tried to find out where exactly he was. It seemed that he was laying naked somewhere on the floor, but what was this place he tried to feel his way around the room. On all forus he crawled. He soon found a furry thing beside him. It must be Robin, he thought. Was he? No he was still breating. The animal seemed to be in a very deep sleep. The room was cold, yet soft. Small but he didn't find a door of anykind.

The last thing he could remember was running off into the woods with Robin, chasing the Goblins, then a sharp pain a flash of light. And now this. He fell asleep soon...

He had no idea how long he slept. It might have been minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months. It didn't matter to him and it was all the same anyway. He couldn't see anyway out.

The he woke again. The peircing light was still present but this time it was more berable. A part of the wall opened, it was probably a door of somekind. It brought in daylight. From what he could see he was deep in the forest. A figure stood in the doorway with it's arms outstreched.

"Come, it's time to leave."
It said. He followed the order. He found enough strenght in him to get up. He could see the shadow of Robin get up and head out of the room. As he passed the doorway the figure dressed him into a robe and pulled something aroung his eyes.

He was walking again, the pain seemed to be ceasing, only for fatigue to return. As they entered a room of somesort he lost consiousness again...

=====================================================================

Richard turned around. There was some noise behind them. The party readied their weapons, noone knew what sort of treachery to expect. But there was nothing. They stood before the keep deciding and planing. Soon they heard some thing agian. Horse hooves. A hores with a rider and some sort of hound were nearing.
The white steed was carring a figure, it seemed as if he was wearing... No it couldn't be. They knew the equipment, it was of their comapion, who dissapeared. Some considered him a traitor, but he just.. just dissapeared without a trace. And now...

The horse stopped before them. The figure fell almost lifelessly of it's back. The dog layed at it's side. It was, yes... Annunhalion returned...

As the horse draws closer a figure is lying limp on the horses back...

Isildur: It couldnt be... Annunhalion?

Annunhalion collapsed on the ground off of his horse. Mark ran over and kneeled by his side.

He pressed two fingers to his neck. One beat pulsed through. And another. Then nothing.

"Hes..." Mark's voice trailed off. Only the most potent necromancers could bring the dead back to life, and even then, the people would rather die than live forever as a skinless wreck of dark magic.

Mark shook his head.

But then he felt it. Another heart beat pulsed through his fingers, and another until a rhythmic beat built up.

"Alive." Mark said, and let out a sigh of relief.

He placed one hand palm down onto the elf's chest, then the other hand on top of that. A blue light glowed, and Annunhalion's eyes shot open.

Richard was shocked to see the ranger and his dog once again. He had thought Annuhalion decided he didn't want to risk his life on the journey to the keep any longer. But here he was with the last shreds of life still in him catching up with us once more.

It was clear that he had simply encountered some troubles. But as to what Richard hadn't the slightest clue. He waited patiently for the ranger to come to his senses and tell his story.
