Haven isn't very fun to play. Academy and Haven I love the most when it comes to town views, the art and backgrounds are simply amazing. Haven lineup is good but fairly boring to play with to me, plus their knights have little magic potential.
I've grown very fond of Dark Magic, so that means playing either Inferno or Necropolis for me  necro has better sorcery potential though + Spellpower, I found frenzy to be quite a lifesaver.
My army:
1000 skel archers
27 zombies
40 orso ghost
3 vamp lords
2 stacks of 25 arch liches orso
20 orso wraiths
Enemy wizard:
around 400 master gremlins
around 250 gargoyles
around 120 steel golums
around 100 arch mages
around 50 djins
43 rakshasa rajas
11 titans
Wizard's first move: Phantom forced the rakshasas xD
My move: frenzy on phantom forced rakshasas, who happen to attack and kill 30 regular Rakshasas  in Their next frenzy they killed 7 titans.
Yeah, I love Dark magic <3 (I won that battle with minimal losses btw).
So, necro or Inferno for me, preferably inferno since I love offense orientation moreso than defence.
The only downparts are the crappy looking towns....

Don't get me wrong, I like Dungeon and Necropolis best, but Haven is the easiest to play and, in my opinion, you can't really go wrong with Haven.
But still, the fact remains, that, they are a bit boring because they do not have so many exotic creatures.

Yes, Stronghold is deffinately now my favorite faction. Think they are a little 'simpler' to plan with or something *shrugs*. Just fun to play.

I voted dungeon for their overpowered spells and good creatures. but the bad thing with them is that it is not a very big grow rate of the creatures. But still it cost more than everything else and that make the game more challenging and that's just funny...

I know they are kind of nerfed in every damn patch, but for me they' will always be my favorites. Necropolis has the best special abilities in da game, imo (incorporeal, life steal) and their units are pretty much the weakest in the game. That implies some pretty nifty tactics. And of course the almighty Dark Magic. Works for them, but not against them. How cool is that? And especially since this is for the original H5, when they could still shine with skelly archers. They get nerfed, of course, but what can you do? It always happens.

Since fortress isnt in the line up (who cannot love mr thane buffed with light magic and runes?) i'll have to go for my nr 2 Academy. Academy would be my nr 1 with a might hero, but since it is about the faction they are 2nd place.

My favorite faction is Stronhold!
Even though their 1,2,3 levels are not that strong 4,5,6,7
take care of that,especially Executioners and either of the
Cyclops.And with all of their warcries they are dominating the
battlefild.
My 2nd favorite faction would be Sylvan!
I just like peace and quit forest(p.s.not always peaceful)
And don't forget about arcane archers and druids.Sylvan is
fun to play,too.
