Look at the pics. Doesn't look much Japanese, does it?

But you were right, original thoughts were Japanese, but it sort of changed along the way, also because the Naga artwork is Japanese.

what Japanese architexture?

and about making this town in the game, If I found someone with the programing skills, I could do creatures:



These are the Water Spirit and Water Elemental



Left to right:

Fire Manifestation, Fire Elemental, and Fire Spirit.

I see a lot of games that have Creatures of the Elements get more human as they become more powerfull.  I say no, they should be more primal as they become stronger.

That's a novel thought. I'd say that's up to you as the artist to decide, and your suggestions look really nice - with the exception of the duck-feet on the Fire Spirit, that look really out of place!

However, I think that generally, the more powerfull creature should be the larger. Of course, that can be helped with making the actual spirits large - 2x2 - creatures, but I also think that should be taller, and more dangerous looking in some way. But maybe I'm just too conservative in my thinking.

Btw. here's a concept for a Fire Manifestation - or Spirit - if you want something minimalistic. Don't know which game this is from, but it looks good, and fits the H5 style.

actually, those are meant to be hands.  That was one of the few things Heroes IV

did well: The fire elemental.  I liked the concept, and upgraded it to spirit.  anyone have thoughts on what some others should look like?

Btw, does anyone have any pictures of the elementals, like screenshots from Heroes V?

Oh, I see about the hands. To be honest, I was never that fond of the H4 elementals ... but then, I haven't got a much better suggestion right now. Might try to come up with something.

I don't know about the screenshots. There are pictures of them at Age Of Heroes, but apart from that, I don't know where you would find them.

The conflux is just useless. To me its like the designers just made some creatures (from the top of there head) and put them in some  castle named "conflux" with elements and whatnot to finsh the game.

i would like to see a revamped, preffibly more indepth design to the conflux. the prepise of it was nice, but it lacked the style that the other towns had, so it didn't reach the same standard.

but you have to admit, Eldgriffon, if we were let loose on the town, we would have a fisable one in seconds. look at the japanese one on page 6, which i did off the top of my head. i personally think that it would be much more apealing to have a fox-like, japanese spearman slyph than a person who looks like they got lost in a tornado.

bixie, how many times must I say it?  The conflux is not Japanesse.  It is Aztec.  

Let's think about the following:

what are the skills?
what are the traits?
what kind of terrian do they have?

The Skills are giving me serious problems. We would obviously need something for the Mage that would relate to the Elemental schools of Destructive Magic. It wouldn't be about damage, because that would be too close to the Warlock area. I think it would be interesting rather to work on something with those Elemental bonuses - freezing effect, stunning from lightning etc. Developing those effects - making them more powerfull, more likely to occur, or something like that. Perhaps something with the extent of the spells - imagine an extended Fireball covering 4x4 area, or a Lightning Bolt covering 2x2 Area - or a Frostring you can center on a 2x2 creature, and it strikes all 12 surrounding tiles?

good.  how about an activated ability. a selected stack "explodes" as it were, destroying some of the creatures and those in surrounding area.  it works like this:

Blue: creature
Red: impact
Green: adventure map

1x1
Wind, Water, Fire, Earth








2x2
Wind, Water, Fire, Earth








The impact area corresponds to the creatures element, based on the Dungeon settings.

Hmmm ... That's novel.

I'm not quite sure I understand this - would this be a suicide thing, that you targeted on your own troops - I kill some of mine and a lot of yours! - or would it be a spelllike ability targeted on enemy creatures?

In the case of the first, I'm not a fan of it, because I generally don't like to sacrifice my own troops - even to take out enemy ones.

The second case might work, but I'm not too sure about the ballancing. Would this work like destructive magic - that you have a set of "spells" to use, whoes strength is determined by your power value - or would it be more like the Hero melee attack, where the strength is determined solely by level? And how strong would it be, in order not to be overpowered? Should it be available in unlimited supply, or only to some extent (i.e. some sort of Mana reserve)?

I'm not saying it couldn't work, but it'll be very difficult to implement this in a ballanced fashion. That's not saying one shouldn't work on the idea, but I do feal there might be equally interesting options that would be easier to implement. We also need to know whether the main Hero class should be Might or Magic.

My ideas so far:

Main Class: Conjurer. Class Skill: Summoning.
Might Subclass: Planeswalker. Subclass Skill: Planeshifting?
Magic Subclass: Elementalist. Subclass Skill: Elemental Manipulation.
