1.5 for the original, 2.1 for HoF. They have the least amount of bugs compared to the previous ones if that answers your question  And toh does not matter because everyone or almost everyone uses the newest patch.

I probably screwed up big time.
Installed 1.4, 1.41, and 1.5 in that order (Don't have HoF).
Training is still more than 20 a week, Necromancy skill is as it used to be, and some interfaces snowed up. If anything, it got worse  No longer 90+ Skellies after killing a group of tier 1s.

Alright got it working now There's a little error though I think.
Within Necropolis, the transformer allows transformation of living creatures into undead, specificly, according to TIER LEVEL.
This for example turns Hydras into Liches.
Shouldn't Nival update this and make the transformations the same as the creatures you can raise from fallen enemies? Hydras - ghosts. Mages - Liches.

I guess I like it better this way. You know that if you buy tier 6 units that you'll get wights, simple as that.

Well,this patch also adds some errors.There are some errors that this patch adds,like the DE points of the pillar of bones are not right,
some spells that are cast by the hero are 4 mana points and but there I see 1 point only,sometimes the blood fury\witch does not return to its place[this only happend to the AI not to me and not just in thi patch also in the former versions].And please there are not magic\spell effects of the deadly strike and the marks of the dammed,wizard etc,that lacks and there should be some spell repair like the armageddon spell of the empowered version does not any damage to the units when it hits the ground and many more lacks.Please if there will be another patch,I praise it will not contain any errors and lacks.

You can always choose to have your Furies stay in target square by holding Ctrl bottom when attacking. Obviously, AI has same option (but previously did not use it due to poor programming).

Depends which game will you play. 1.x patches are for original H5, when 2.x are for HoF. Notice - when you'll have HoF, original H5 will be still avaible to play. It worths to patch both games, for example to have duel heroes editor which applies only to base game.

To complement the answer, you will have 2 separate games, and each is patched separately. Obviously you'll play HoF anyway. H5 depends on how you want to play:
- if you only play online, I guess you'll mostly play HoF. Some accompanying features like the duel presets editor are available in 1.5 only, not HoF yet, but I bet they will be somewhere in the future.
- if you play the campaigns, then you will play H5 first, which starts the story.
All the other H5 maps (single scenarios and multiplayer - available for single play) can be played from HoF. Only the campaigns can't. Where you play them depends if you want the new features in them (like dwarves, Haven renegades, caravans...).
Anyway, welcome to H5!

Hi,
- I just have a few questions. I am re-installing my H5 ( not the HoF - yet ) and I have 1.0 showing in my lower left. Which patches should I install ? And more important from where ? - I dont seem to have an autoupdater installed anymore.
Edit Really looking for an all-in-one sort of d/l ...if there is a such.

Hi,
- A mix of 1.5 and 2.1 question. I am curretnly working my way through the campaigns ( 1.5 ) and as I understand it, one can't play these if one install HoF .. right ? Anyhoooos ... I really want an online game today, so hows this for size ... I have 1.5 installed then I install HoF and update ( for the online sensation  ) where does that leave me ? .... can I unistall HoF after my game(s) online and still have 1.5 + my campaign saves ... or do I need to backup the whole shabang ( 1.5 saves ) ?

I have not tried that but I don't think the saves are affected. Why uninstall it anyway?

HoF doesn't affect ur saves,if i remember correctly,the normal version's has it's saves and the HoF version has it's saves too,u just need to open the normal hommv (not hof) to be able to load ur saves,am not sure tho,so backup ur saves

how can i copy//backup Homm5 save files
where does the game save profiles // campaign saves ??!?!
just copied the whole game 2.4 GB (o_O) and still cannot access the saves

in my documents,my games,hommv,profiles,and then choose ur profile and copy the saves ^.^
