Don't use notepad. Use TxtEdit (I hope it works.. There were few TXT tables editors for H3 and H4 and one of them showed H4 tables all messed up)

Can you post the screenshot of how this doesn't work? I have neither Windows nor Heroes 4 installed, so I can't check this.

Dear Heroes, I’ve got a problem.
I tried to slightly modify original The Gathering Storm campaigns but it won’t work.
I used the utility mh4.win32.006 highly advertised here. http://www.celestialheavens.com/homm4/usefulfiles/mh4.win32.006.zip
I extracted all the files from storm.h4r.
Edited Dogwoggle campaign maps, saved without changing the neame.
Then I repacked the ALL the files through the option “Build a h4l file”, placed it in the Data directory of the game, but at the game launch there’s no option to start a new gathering storm campaign. WoW campaigns, original H4 campaigns and Tutorial are all in place and startable but no GS campaigns.
The curious thing is that the original storm.h4r file is 38,8 mb in size. The repacked storm.h4r is 38.3 mb even without minor changes in the map files I was going to make. Just extracting and then repacking results in loss of 0,5 mb in size an file corruption: the game does not recognize the repacked h4r file. The same thing is true for Vista and Win7. No WinXP available to try. (Sighs)
What am I doing wrong

Extracting and repacking results in a loss of "paths"
When you open your new storm.h4r, you can see that your files got no "path" anymore.
Anyone knows how to add the paths?

If you want to edit the campaigns, extract the campaign files (all of them), put them in /maps/campaigns folder and in game, instead of choosing WoW or GS campaign, click Scenario, go to campaign folder and choose a campaign - the only difference is that you dont have a picture menu but list of files, as the single maps are - if you want to play the locked/hidden/last campaign, the game will not let you do so until you finish the previous 5 campaigns - all heroes are carry-over and you can edit all maps with the regular editor, you have all the voices and animations. I used to edit the campaign maps for epic battles, making every enemy hero/town much more difficult and removing the level cap for my heroes. I am using this with Equilibris (which I further have edited for better balance - I am a math freak and I re-calculated some of the creatures stats and buildings costs - making them much more expensive so you cannot finish building dwellings in three weeks as usual).
Enjoy it, it is very simple to edit the campaings in this way and dont bother to pack them in .hr files, since it is not working.
