@mamgaeater: Kinda funny you should mention 6th edition.
Most of my MTG cards (used to collect them, back in Mirage/6th Edition) are from that edition.

And yes, Lord_Woock is correct. I have one or two old cards I can use in Standard myself...but no one plays the game in the area where I live, so I have no reason to play.

Eventide Visual Spoiler starts tomorrow!

Yes, the Eventide Spoiler begins tomorrow, and Wizards has already compiled some cards spoiled in magazines, like Cartes de Combante and Mana Rouge. They look great so far.

@mamgaeater: Well, seeing as how I don't actively play MTG, I can only give you general advice. Anyways, here goes:

Generally, in any trading card game, when you do a trade, you do so for cards that will:

A. Help out your deck
B. Help you out make other deck ideas
C. Have collector's value

So, all I can ask is:

Do the cards you got in the trade help your current deck or a deck you're planning on making? If so, then it wasn't a bad trade.

To find out if it was a good trade, you'd have to ask the MTG regulars.

I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh! and Duel Masters (before WotC pulled the plug...), so I know what it is to trade a really rare card just to get cards that you want, even if you know you got shorthanded in the process.

All in all mamga, the guy got the short end of the stick. You can make a killer deckset with Magus of the Jar and Guile, throw in some Vesuvan Shapeshifters, and its just evil (since Guile's a deadly creature judged by power).

I tried your deck but got pretty bad draws 7 of 10 times...u need more of same cards (3/4)...
You have some really good cards in there, try base your deck on them
but u have to decide what u want to do with your deck (mill, weenie, -1/-1 counters) and buy/trade for more cards.

@Sargeras - I have been playing for close to five...no six years. I know my way around. I think Darksteel was out when I started...

I play dominately blue. My favorite tactics are Lockdown and Mill (at present both at once ). I also like going infinite with ingenious combos [:cough cough Stoneybrook Schoolmaster w/ Intruder Alarm cough cough:]

@mamga - You have a lot of good cards for a standard Beatdown deck. Your Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers and Game Trail Changelings chould come in handy here, and Vesuvan Shapeshifters are evil. Here's a good tip - Pump up a Creature really high, then Morph the Shapeshifter copying the big creature and it stays permanantly huge. Don't you just love manipulating the rules. Try getting ahold of a Chameleon Colossus. It has protection from the most dominant in creature removal. Focus on big creatures, and maybe some tribal elements with Eventide coming out soon.

@Mamga: May one of the MTG players correct me if I'm wrong...but here goes (most of these terms are universal in trading card games, so I can't be THAT wrong ):

Mill - I have no idea either.

Lockdown/Control - These decks predominantly prevent your opponent from doing certain moves or playing certain cards. In the best of cases, for you, you virtually prevent him from playing at all (hence the term lockdown). I assume blue is the control color in MTG...if a comparison from Duel Masters is applicable and the colors carry out similar roles in both games.

Weenie - Fill the board with 1/1, 1/2, 2/1 or 2/2 creatures (preferably with a low mana cost) and sweep away. I shouldn't need to tell you how vulnerable this is to field control...but well, you get the idea...

To mill means to remove cards from the top of a player's library either to the graveyard or from the game completely. Mill decks tend to be inefficient unless they utilise some combo that lets them mill the whole deck in one turn.

A lock is a combination of cards that makes it very difficult for an opponent to do anything at all. A good example is the Pickles lock, consisting of Vesuvan Shapeshifter and Brine Elemental.

A control deck is one that aims to control the game, invalidating the opponent's plays using things like removal (usually of the mass kind, like Wrath of God) or counterspells. A popular kind of control deck is Permission, or Mono Blue Control (or MUC for short), which counters almost everything the opponent plays and then drops a big creature when the opponent has no way of defending himself left.

i have compiled a short list of cards that i've thought of.
(currentlyowned)
3 turn to mist
2 repel intruders
1 knacksaw clique
1 put away
1 farhaven elf
1 tromp the domains (works well with prismatic omen right?)
1 eyes of the wisent ( sidedeck material right?)
1 isleback spawn
1 declaration of naught
2 silkbind faerie
1 elvish beserker

@Woock - Mill with Lockdowns just plain evil!

Silkbind Faerie - If you want some decoying, they might be the way to go, since if you combine them with tapping stuff, like Utopia Vow, it could be evil.

Declaration of Naught - Be careful, since they have a tendency to work only against Wrath (of God) Decks or Overrun.

Tromp the Domains - There we go, think more on the lines of that, a potential +5/+5 board sweeper is great.

Isleback Spawn - Partially useless, since its only true power is a spring in lategame

Farhaven Elf - Good if you don't have any other means of land fetching

Repel Intruders - Good for a little surprise to opponets Enormous Baloth or a Wurm.

All in all, some can be worked in...

Hmm...I think that it reinforces the ideals that the hybrid colors hold.

Black - Green: Live, die, live again. Material is reusable, and death is no excuse. They have numerous heavy hitters, Like Creakwood Liege and the Deity of Scars.

Black - White: Hmm...the control of fate. Anything that lives can pay tribute to you. Opponents wither while you grow strong. The perfect cycle... Some nice mentions are Divinity of Pride, Evershrike, and Nightsky Mimic.

Red - Blue: Chaos defeats everthing. Control and conquer, make no thing stand in your way. I like the the Mindwrack Liege, Dominus of Fealty, and Call the Skybreaker.

Blue - Green: Synergy with spell and creature, sybiosis of creation and occurence. Boost the creature to forms not of itself. I like the Overbeing of Myth most definitely, and the Slipper Boggle.

White - Red: Overpowering attacks, and punishment for attempts at forestalling invasion. Attack and attack again, for there is no alternative. Gain strength to pummle foes. I like the Balefire Liege, yes, Figure of Destiny, and Spitemare.
