((The tiles were supposed to be put into my pack, along with the journal detailing all of the research put into them. If there is info on troop movements and there is other journal stuff in there, Mark will read over it and take pictures of everything research related, and give the journal to ranger Wane so that the ranger has all of the info on Bandra movements Mark can give him.

I'll also take a revive, but that's about it on top of the gems and tiles that I already have.))

Focusing back in when he feels that mental conversation, Mark would look at Kirlia and tilt his head to the side as he asks, "Wait, what? Huh? What isn't there?" That was an odd thing for Lapras to be thinking about.

"Thank you, but I'm quite alright for now. I was wondering how these missing pokemon get returned to their owners? I'd imagine there's some pokedex app for that sort of thing? Else I'd like to get flyers out so that all these poor pokemon get returned properly.“

“If the trainer has their number on record we just call them and tell them to pick up their Pokémon, otherwise the Pokémon Centers usually get in contact with the person and one of the Nurse Joys lets them know,” the Ranger answers with his usual drawl. “Or did you mean how do we figure out they’re stolen in the first place? There is an App for that, I can download it to your Pokédex if you want.”

"Nurse Joy mentioned that Bandra can heal their pokemon like any other trainer.... I'm curious... on how they can be healed when in their pokeball yet? Aren't they brought out and examined? Wouldn't any staff at one of these facilities be able to tell if a pokemon is mistreated, much less stolen from their original owner?"

Ranger Wain peers at you with confused concern. “How long have you been a Pokémon trainer that you’ve never seen the Pokémon Center healing machines?”

((OoC it’s like in the handhelds – your Pokéballs go on the little platform and the machine goes ding-ding-ding-a-ling and then they’re all healed. Of normal, non-serious damage anyway.))

The Ranger’s Styler bleeps as Viola chimes in. “Some of these creatures are twenty feet long or more. Some of them don’t like being out of water or in bright spaces. Some of them don’t like people, or don’t like unfamiliar people, or don’t like being around other Pokémon. Some of them will eat other Pokémon given a chance. Almost ALL of them have powers that could seriously hurt people or other Pokémon, or damage buildings if they panic and start attacking.” Even through the distortion of the Styler her voice has a long-suffering quality. “We don’t do the Pokémon any favors by having strange people call them out in a strange environment when they may already be under stress from injuries. So if the Pokémon don’t need us to do that, we don’t!

“New catches will be taken out and given basic immunization shots when possible. The nurses are trained to look for severe damage on the machine readouts the same as on the Pokémon’s bodies, same for the trainer’s information recorded in the Pokéballs, so if the Pokémon is seriously injured ((read: stat damage, broken bones and such)) then yes, the nurse will take them out for more intensive treatment. If that happens, you won’t get their ball back ((and by extension you can’t swap their ball for a different one)) until they’ve recovered, so try not to let them get badly hurt, all right?”

"You might say I'm a bit perplexed about these Bandra people... It's a bit inconceivable that ordinary towns folk would just randomly join an organization that's out to hurt people whom may be friends or family to those in the group."

The Ranger gives you a look. “Is it now? You never had bullies growing up? Never knew anyone who hurt someone because they thought it was fun, or because they wanted to fit in with the wrong crowd? There are lots of people like that. More who will join because they’re scared, and they don’t want to end up on the losing side of the war. That’s why it’s important to stand up to Bandra – if someone went and showed them Bandra isn’t the unstoppable force they think it is, more of them would quit and go back to whatever it was they did before they joined.”

"By the way, was any useful information obtained from the ones we captured? A combination for a lock for example? Or what their activities might be?"

“Not really, at least not yet. They’re caterwauling about their Taskmaster; I guess you didn’t get their leader. They were definitely dealing with the stolen chaff Pokémon but it sounds like their leader is getting most of those. I did get that none of the Pokémon that go to him come back.” He pauses meaningfully. “Hopefully you three bringing back these Grunts slowed that down a little, but pardon me for saying that it’s not going to stop until someone brings that Taskmaster to…task.”

----------------

Mark:

((What journal??? The Note on sacrifices is just a page. Regardless, everything should be moved now, so let me know if I missed anything.))

<Nothing. That’s what I’m trying to—>

Kirlia cuts off abruptly as she is interrupted by a low growl.

Matt:

The Ranger downloads the App onto your Pokédex. ((You now have the App to check if the trainer info on a Pokéball has been tampered with. ))

"No, no, no, I mean if these Bandra people have to come all the way to town...with stolen pokemon... how is it they can walk in, get a stolen pokemon healed up, without anyone knowing if people have apps about stolen pokemon? I'd naturally figure that a facility like the healing center, of ALL places, would have such a simplistic app already installed so as to discover Bandra agents and report them ASAP.”

“That’s…a couple of things. First of all, the software for your Pokédex is not the same as the software for the healing machines. The healing machines can’t use that App, same reason the refrigerator can’t. Some models have similar software installed but it’s mostly out of date because we’ve been at war for seven years.”

Viola chimes in again. “Software like that has to be updated regularly because people find ways around it – like anti-virus programs. And not all Bandra use stolen Pokémon in the first place – most of the Grunts don’t, for example.”

“More of a... 'Do Bandra goons have their own PokeCenter healing contraption?' sort of question. My apologies."

The Ranger's tone is wry as he responds. “They’re in control of half the region, I’d be surprised if they don’t have at least one.”

"I had figured that anyone whom heard of the old Team Rocket would have figured out that crime doesn't pay. They had to of been all over the news, even to far away places like this, I had figured they were world reknown. At least they gave the sort of impression that they were, taking over Saffron City's tower and all that. I don't recall them having any shadowed pokemon like these Bandra people do though. Suppose new crime needs new weapons."

“Believe it or not hardly anyone heard of Team Rocket this far out in the boondocks – Helnith was never exactly on the beaten trail, the war just made it worse. There might have been a news story or two but we got just as much news when someone won the Kanto League Championship. I guess it’s just as well. You’d be surprised how many copycats will see something on the news and decide they want to try it out themselves.” Ranger Wain shakes his head. “Shadowing is a natural phenomenon though; Spectral-type Pokémon can cause Shadowing like Fire Pokémon cause burns, Pokémon can be Shadowed if they’re abused, and Pokémon in the Spectral Dimension get Shadowed over time if they’re not Spectral types. Bandra might weaponize it, but they aren’t the first or the only ones.”

Mark:

Still curious, Lapras squirts a stream of water at the patch of grass to flatten it down, prompting a four-legged dark shape to leap out and shake itself, giving you a clearer view and it looks like – is that an Umbreon?

It is! The Pokédex says it’s wild, but it also contradictingly shows that the Pokemon has signs that someone’s trained it at one point. The Dark type is definitely mad at you now, though.

Thinking to myself I head over to the PokeMart and sell the left over mining kits leaving one for myself. I ask the clerk for around 2 revives, 4 potions, and 3 super potions if they have them in stock (and if I can afford them ;P ) before heading back to the Center to meet up with Mina and Mark.

Seeing that the umbreon was kinda just extra mad, Mark says to his pokemon, "Alright guys, don't think I can talk this one down. Lapras, use sing and Kirlia, use lucky chant." A wild umbreon. Recently released? Maybe?

((Just checking: your starting gear included a Mining Kit from the cruise line; are you keeping back a spare so you’ll have two? It’s fine either way, I just want to be clear. ))

The clerk at the PokéMart considers the Mining Kits for a moment, muttering about specialized equipment and being used before offering you 1500 PD for each of them, but tells you you might be able to get a better offer from the Geology Club in Tidepath.

When you ask after Revives, you are informed regretfully that the Mart doesn’t have those in stock. Because of the war, they’re in high demand everywhere, and since they’re mined, not manufactured, it isn’t possible to simply increase production at a factory somewhere to keep up with demand. The clerk tells you somewhat ruefully that they’ve gotten rare enough that Trainer Hill sometimes awards them as prizes, and you’d have a better chance digging them up yourself than finding them on a store shelf.

((6950 - 3300 PD for 3 Super Potions and 4 Potions total = 3650 PD remaining, NOT counting money from the Mining Kits.))

"Okay, so that didn't work." A detail clicking into mind that if Kirlia fell unconscious, their connection might send a shock of feedback into him and knock him out, Mark came up with a new plan quickly. "Lapras, protect Kirlia! Kirlia, use Magical Leaf." Where did this Umbreon even come from, and why was it so angry with him?! Probably because Lapras sprayed it in the middle of the day. That's probably why the nocturnal dark type was so grumpy. That would do it.

((No rolls needed no. ))

A look at the map shows you that Tidepath is about seven or eight miles southeast of Ceris ((where you are now)) if you go in a straight line, longer if you take the route. You also note the Pokédex has updated to the latest patch. ((Map is now clearer and should be readable. We now have a listing of Berries with most of the relevant information you could want, and there is an official type chart. Let me know if anything looks odd!))

Scuttlebutt around town is a mixed bag. Most of what you hear is word of the group’s previous-night escapades which apparently has spread, though the accounts of how the Heroes of Helnith have struck a blow against Bandra seem to have been magnified, as they frequently name-drop Bandra Officers and/or Pokémon you are reasonably sure were not involved in last night’s fighting…certainly there were no Moltres in sight, at least. Aside from that, the major rumors seem to be centered on mysterious howling up by the northern coast, Bandra activity in Keida and Ternai, and mild concern that Salerdia hasn’t been spotted since her brief reappearance.

You find Mina up and awake, but Mark is sleeping off the night’s adventures. ((We’ll just say the loot splitting happens here. You’re sure you don’t want your Berries? You should at least keep some of the ones with in-battle effects. Let me know which ones you want to dump and I’ll transfer them to Mina.))

Mark:

Kirlia uses Magical Leaf!
Umbreon is hit for 14 damage!

Umbreon uses Pursuit!

Lapras blocks the Dark type with his massive body, taking the hit meant for Kirlia.

Lapras is hit for 12 damage!

"What's Salerdia?" I kind of ask no body in particular.

Thinking back, if memory serves me correctly, Bandra's located in the west and north of Ceris? I reckon, after viewing the map, that Tidepath isn't too heck of a ways away, so after splitting the loot and dumping loads of Berries upon Mina, I'll inform them that I'll head over there with the extra mining kits to peddle and will attempt to be back in the area in a weeks time. Or can attempt to meet them else where if they so desire. I'll bid my adiues unless they've something they want to say, and head out. Keeping eyes and ears open for pokemon or what ever might be going on of interest. Might also happily feed rumors about seeing a Moltres flying around to troll people. XD

((Memo to myself: we are currently on Day 20.))

"What's Salerdia?"

One of the locals has pity on you and explains that Salerdia is one of the local Legendaries.

Mina appears to consider your plan, nods, and adds “Let’s meet up here at the Pokémon Center in a week then. If for some reason any of us can’t make the rendezvous pass a message on through the Nurse Joys.”

On your way out you’re able to catch the attention of one of the locals and tell him about the Moltres you ‘saw.’ Said local eagerly asks where you saw it and how big it was.

((Are you headed directly to Tidepath or are you taking the road?))

----------------

Mark:

((12 + 14 + 14 damage from Magical Leaf x3, Lapras has taken 7 + 12 damage from Tackle and Pursuit, and there was a Sand Attack in there too not that it matters with Magical Leaf.))

A few more rounds pass, and the Dark type appears to be getting frustrated. By this point it’s obvious he (the Pokédex is able to confirm it’s a male) doesn’t have much in the way of actual damaging attacks, and either doesn’t have any way of hurting your Pokémon indirectly or for some reason isn’t using it. But you get a nasty surprise when the Umbreon brushes off Lapras’ attempt to Sing him to sleep, as the battered Pokémon’s rings begin to glow…

Umbreon uses Moonlight!
Umbreon restores 54 HP!

…and every last scratch vanishes. The Pokédex informs you that move usually only heals about half the user’s health unless the weather is affected by something…

<This is going to take forever!> Kirlia laments.

As I don't exactly have a pokemon which would be able to ferry me across the water, and golly gee whiz knows WHAT sort of crazy pokemon are in the sea.... I'll be happily trodding upon the, likely NOT, yellow brick road to Tidepath.

I suppose I can also be on the lookout for any berries on the journey since Mina seems so fond of them.

((Good, the map is readable now! Unfortunately Tidepath got its name for a reason…))

Your audience gets an eager look on his face and tears off in the direction you indicate.

The journey south is uneventful, though as the terrain gets steadily more barren the farther south you go this isn’t surprising. No Pokémon show themselves except at a distance, and there doesn’t seem to be much human traffic going or coming along this route for whatever reason. ((No Berries in this area either, it’s too barren and traveled. Speaking of which, you never answered my question!))

You are about five miles south of Ceris when you run into a complication.

The tide is coming in. As you vaguely recall from one of the cruise ship brochures, the city gets its name because the roads to and from it flood during high tide. Unfortunately you remember this as you come face to face to what is currently the shoreline. It isn’t high tide yet, but that just means the water isn’t at its highest peak - there’s still a decent stretch of water between you and the opposite shore. A few higher points of old road, stony outcrops and coral growths peek out of the water between you and your destination, but there are also a number of strong currents, and the distance you’d need to traverse to get to dry land is growing as the minutes tick past.

Ah, hmm, well this is quite a predicament. I'll hustle my way to the closest shoreline and camp out for the night. I'll also have Poliwhirl, Weepinbell, and Taillow out to rotate a night watch, keep an eye out for strangers, wake me if any wild pokemon venture too close, and to see if Taillow still has it's Charti berry or not.
(I'm guessing that's the question you're referring too =P )
After bringing them out, it occurs to me that perhaps filling that local's head full of Moltres granduer may not have been the best idea. Considering it WAS in Bandra territory afterall. I ponder if there's a way to contact the individual before they venture too far to warn them of impending doom.

As you didn’t even get the name of that local much less contact information like a phone or Pokédex number, you realize you have absolutely no way to contact them.

You make your way back to the actual shoreline to wait out the tide. It’s about 2 PM when you make camp.

((You just want to wait for morning or wait for the tide to go out? Tides work more or less like they do in the real world, so while there IS a low tide tomorrow morning, there’s another one before that.))

Mark:

The Umbreon seems to be expecting this, because it seems to hit with extra ferocity this time. Fortunately, Lapras is still able to block the blow. ((21 damage)) The wild Dark type is obviously getting frustrated.

((Kirlia: 27/63 (recalled)
Lapras: 64/116 (Accuracy down 1 level)
Skarmory: 82/82

Umbreon: 79/79))
