Wasn't the general consensus that the Berserk anime failed horribly though?

I might remember wrong. Never seen it after all but still.

That taxi driver was amazing, he had driving skills out of outer space, perfect attitude and didn't mind the world blowing up around him.

"This."
"A snake?"
"It's one of a pair."
"And, the other one...oh, wait a minute, on someone special?"
"YES."

That scene in episode 13 where the tattoos finally connect together. And the ending to that scene. Perfection.

I think the general consensus is that the animation was bad (but my friends only noticed once I pointed it out) and the ending is kind of harsh. The art was still good, since it was basically colored images straight from the manga.

The story is still great, the art good and the music memorable. But if you're not into giant monster slaying and giant sword swinging, then nevermind!

EDIT: There's also Claymore for giant monster slaying.

I really prefer Claymore art over Berserk anyway. But the series is so bad I didn't get past the first chapter of the manga.

I might be inclined to read Berserk even though I don't like the art if I knew there were no FRICKING COMIC RELIEF CHARACTERS!

I hate all comic reliefs with burning passion. They simply do not belong in a serious story. It's like throwing a spear through the fourth wall. So. Annoying.

Wait a sec, aren't YunYun and that taxi driver comic relief chars in Canaan? I'm not so dead opposed to comedy, yet it's true that in a serious plot it just dumbs things down. I dare to say it's a hit or miss issue, sometimes it just blends nicely, sometimes it's outrageous.

Nope. They're both plot characters.
Though YunYun was on a route to being a comic relief character that was avoided pretty early on and she evolved to a hero by the end.

Well, the original anime cut out the comic relief characters... Except... A comic relief villain who appears in like 5 episodes (maybe more?). The manga has it very egregiously. There's like 3 in the main party right now (actually, Puc is a very important part of the story, no he isn't.)

Yeah, that's just annoying. Shin Angyo Onshi was an amazing series that was ruined by a comic relief character. The story was simply awesome. And then there's the one goddamn character that goes around jumping straight into your face.

This is the writers/editors way of "catering to a larger group" or "downplaying the morbid themes" just don't do it. It ruins the immersion and feel of the story.

Code Geass is "mecha" in the same way that Attack on Titan is "people with swords", it's an accurate but misleading description. The mecha aren't central in the way that they are in, say, a Gundam series.

Canaan was just that good. Short but totally worth it. The way they played around the theme of love ranged from intriguing to downright hilarious at times. Dat American president ^^

Speaking of short series, you should watch darker than black. Like, right now. You'll thank me later.

I found the berserk films well worth watching A nice cinematic adaptation of the key manga events, beautiful as well as gory. What did not work so well was that 3D animation(especially in the third film) and the same film's soundtrack. At times it felt out of place. But anyone who likes the manga should like the films, just don't expect them to cover every single scene. Credit where it's due, the films cut some really stupid scenes from the manga. I found that in good taste.

Now if only they get around the black swordsman arc..

Sorry Joonas, berserk does have comic relief Nowhere near as bad as ongyo shin onshi though but that's a given. Still.. I'd recommend that you give the manga a shot.

Yea, I was actually thinking about it. That and Blood+, but that's 18+ horror, vampire and I'm very afraid of watching horror. I get really nasty nightmares to the point that I wake up screaming. Haven't gotten one in years though, so trying to stay away from that genre for now.

So I guess Darker than Black it is. Gonna watch Mvass' recommend after.

There's only one scene in Blood+ I found genuinely scary and that one had something akin to baby vampire chestbursters, graaaARGH.

Cool action, awesome antagonist, great openings. It's pretty neat.

Main negative thing about it I remember is this random group of failed vampire experiments that somehow get way too much screentime.

I actually find the whole Blood franchise a bit...mediocre.

Which is weird considering I've got a fetish with vampires(that don't sparkle).

Perhaps.

Practically no chance of that happening though. Adult anime doesn't sell like otaku anime does.

Ok, this is odd. I watch the anime, then I realize I'm spacing out sometimes, thinking on... various things, so I have to go back a little and rewatch it. Does that happen to you guys as well?

No no, it's not just on Darker than Black, it's on everything, and it's happening a lot lately. For instance years ago I used to watch Naruto and Bleach while being very focused, but effortlessly. I wasn't struggling to keep up with the events. NOW, when I see a simple scene like Hei gazing at the stars my mind just flies away... and it's definitely not out of boredom, I can tell that much. It's a lot more like daydreaming..... Whoa there I go again, like, even when I type this happens, it's like I'm opening my eyes wider then: "the heck, I did that again...". And I remember exactly what I was thinking about, and what I was doing up until then. It's just interesting, like loosing myself in a trance for a moment.

About the anime now, watched the first season and it was good 4/5. Sci-fi is not my cup of tea, fantasy is Well, the plot's good but it has some drawbacks. The feeling overall is... sadness... melancholy. The gates appearing from nowhere is something not really that inventive, not if left like that without an explanation, which I didn't get thus far. The effects seem rather dubious, people put under contracts and get powers... It's half interesting half "wtf?", if you know what I mean. I really enjoyed the diplomatic/espionage part of the anime, as well as the organisations and people operating behind the scenes. The events of Heaven's gate, with Hei and his sister, Amber's love, should've been emphasised a lot more, there was a lot of potential there for good drama.

The characters... Hei was not as cool as I imagined he would be. Now that I think of it, there weren't any characters that appealed to me in particular, none that made me say wholeheartedly "yep, I wish I was like this guy, or this girl". I guess November 11 is at the top of my list. I really expected more of Amber and of Yin (I swear I couldn't tell she was blind until finding it on wikias). Bai, why not more brother-sister drama there? I hope it's foreshadowing and not JUST that, but the way the season ended, with Hei meeting her again and no feelings bursting out... really doubt it.

I think I'm missing a lot of things, but can't help it right now. Gonna watch the other season and the specials sometime soon. Gotta take a break now.

The rest of the stuff sucks though. Sadly nothing like the first season.

Why did you think Hei took Kirsi by the hand all the time? Of course she's blind. She's one of my favs. Havoc was great too. I'm not particular to the new Hei, the Hei in the gate wars was much more my style.

Yeah, the contractor idea is pretty funny at times. Then again, have to eat cigarettes is win.

Perhaps you just need to sleep more.

Ok so I finished the Specials and the Second Season. I don't know why you said it's not as good as the first season, to me it seemed quite good. Maybe the snow-russia setting for the plot didn't appeal do you, didn't really appeal to me either, SHIKASHI, that was the perfect choise for the plot. It seemed way more deep and bone chilling that way.

Now, I really, and I mean REALLY, don't get why you didn't like "the new Hei", because, almost like a rule, you see the best scenes when a character is troubled - and boy was he troubled alright. I remember being exactly like him one time, gotta love it when it happens to someone else... not, it's heartbreaking But that way he seems real, not a static character, people change, even if sometimes is not for the better.

The one thing that bothers me is the plot. It's highly interesting but underdeveloped. There's a lack of explanation power to it, which makes you want to know more, which is good. But if that desire is not met, it will simply fade away and people'll remember the anime in a different light. I hope there will be more seasons to enlighten us on key issues like: what the hell are those gates and what caused them to appear; how are they connected to the contractors and the dolls, their emotions, their remuneration, and so on; what exactly are Izanami and Izanagi; etc etc...

Otherwise the anime is brilliant. Enjoyed it, even if it didn't explain things well. Maybe they're keeping things to reveal them in some next seasons, cuz I'd really like to watch more. Thanks Elvin for the recommend.

Sate, imanani o mite? Oh right, Mvass's recommend. But a little break first.

P.S: Shingeki no Kyojin 54 is out since yesterday, go check it out.
